Secret internal emails reveal Osama bin Laden was washed, wrapped in a sheet and slid into the sea for his burial in accordance with Islamic burial tradition - and no sailors saw it. The heavily blacked out emails sent between U.S. military officers were obtained through the Freedom of Information Act and are the first public disclosure of government information about the al Qaida leader´s death. Bin Laden was killed on May 1, 2011, by a U.S. Navy SEAL team that attacked his compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan.
I am not sure how much, if any of this to believe. This administration has long since lost the last vestiges of credibility for me. There may have been more dishonest ones, but I cannot think of them. It is, I suggest, a serious mistake to believe ANYTHING Obama or his representatives say about ANYTHING unless independent, truly reliable confirmation exists. Who really knows what happened to Bin Laden? The Islamic burial at sea has always sounded -pardon the pun- fishy to me. First you snuff the guy, and then you give him an Islamic funeral? I thought Bin Laden was one of that tiny minority of Muslims who do not understand their own religion and fail to realize it is a religion of peace. Who said he deserved an Islamic funeral? There is something weird about the whole thing.
O for the days when America had a Forth Estate press rather than a Fifth Column partisan propaganda machine!
Considering the endless lies that spew out of the White House it is very possible Bin Laden is growing old and fat somewhere in a secret CIA lock-up. I believe nothing from my Government except my SS check, and that´s questionable.
The disposal of the body reads like bad fiction. What are the odds that binladen was dead long before the raid, or that he is still alive, today?
I find the part where "no sailors saw it" to be unbelievable. When I was in the Navy, there were sailors everywhere on every ship. Even burials at sea were performed by sailors. Then, there´s the part about washing the trash before throwing it in the sea...
One day the government of a large country sent some of their very best fighting men to capture an enemy of that nation. The very good fighting men, concerned that this enemy would not be treated as an enemy, perhaps even be granted rights or accesses that might be harmful to the country they loved and served, killed the enemy instead. Either because it would be easy to prove that they had disregarded their orders, or because they were still concerned that even the body of this enemy would be used to harm their beloved country, they ´buried´ him at sea - with very few witnesses.
The leader of the country was very angry but knew that if he raised too much of a fuss questions might be asked, or worse, information might leak out. So he instead leaked some information of his own, causing the deaths of a number of these good fighting men. His need for retribution not sated, he went on to cast aspersions on many of them, destroying their careers and their ability to protect the country that they loved. He vowed not to stop until they were completely ruined and could never thwart his plans again.
I hate to say this, but I am sure he was buried exactly as the description states. Either bHo or some upwardly-mobile Navy suit thought it up, and it was done. The Navy´s version of the Ft. Hood syndrome.
If it had been my call, I would have delegated it all to Gutfeld. I´m sure he would have come up with something tasteful, utilizing the steam catapult and one or two Phalanx systems.
And, we´ll never know if any of this ever really happened, or if it did, that it really resembles the story trotted out for consumption. Photoshopped Situation Room photo that was a bad job at that. Then, that helicopter of SEALS shot down not long after....who is telling the truth in ALL of this...?
But #1 - you absolutely take the prize with that one. I´m surprised that one didn´t float out in some commentary elsewhere. It was waiting to be said.....
President Obama is planning a special White House screening of The Weinstein Co.´s Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. Stars Idris Elba and Naomie Harris are set to attend the Nov. 7 event, along with Nelson Mandela´s daughters Zindzi and Zenani Mandela. Obama paid a tribute visit to Robben Island jail in June, the facility where Mandela was imprisoned for nearly two decades. The film premiered Sunday at an event in Johannesburg that was attended by Mandela’s former wife, Winnie Mandela. Said TWC co-chairman Harvey Weinstein: "Knowing what a strong relationship President Obama has with President Mandela, it´s an honor for
President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama welcomed visitors to the White House Tuesday to celebrate the first tours of the building in seven months. Due to across-the-board budget cuts, the presidential dwelling closed its doors to visitors in March. Now, tours have resumed, albeit on a limited basis. As visitors filed in, they were greeted by handshakes from Barack and Michelle Obama and sniffs from the family´s two Portuguese water dogs, Sunny and Bo. "We are happy to have the tours back," the first lady said to one visitor. Tour groups were not informed that they would be
WASHINGTON — Sen. Tom Coburn has had a recurrence of prostate cancer and is undergoing evaluation and treatment, a spokesman for the senator said Tuesday morning. Coburn, R-Muskogee, had surgery in October 2011 to treat an early incidence of prostate cancer and was back in Washington within a few days. John Hart, Coburn´s communication director, said Tuesday that he expects Coburn “to be back as soon as he is able, hopefully next week.” Coburn, 65, has survived colon cancer and melanoma.
As many as 17 million low- to moderate-income Americans should be eligible for tax credits to buy private health insurance under President Barack Obama´s healthcare law in 2014, according to a report by the Kaiser Family Foundation. The subsidies are a provision of the law that aims to make U.S. health coverage more affordable. Enrollment in the health plans began on October 1, but has been hobbled by technical problems that have halted access to the federal HealthCare.gov website meant to help people in 36 states verify their eligibility for subsidies and sign up. The three states with the highest
Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) joined MSNBC anchor Chris Jansing on Tuesday where she insisted that “nothing” she or President Barack Obama said about the Affordable Care Act prior to its passage or implementation “was not true.” “It has infuriated a lot of the 3 percent or so of Americans who actually can’t do that and, frankly, has upset a lot of the other people who felt misled,” Jansing said of Obama’s “keep your plan pledge.” “Did the president, congresswoman, knowingly oversimplify this and provide an opening, frankly, for opponents of the ACA?” she asked.
The latest Obama talking point on the failure of the Obamacare rollout is that Republicans are "sabotaging" the law. Democrat spinmeister Brad Woodhouse tried that line yesterday, and evidently Obama´s friends in the media are playing along. Jonathan Capehart of the Washington Post makes the same claim in a rant at the Post´s "PostPartisan" opinion blog, saying that he was "enraged" by the "sabotage of healthcare.gov." And how, pray tell, did the Republican Party--which could barely find the "on" switch on a computer last Election Day--sabotage Obamacare? By refusing to give more money to the Department of Health and Human
An early rush of Virginia voters went to the polls Tuesday morning to decide whether to send Democrat Terry McAuliffe or Republican Ken Cuccinelli II to the Executive Mansion and make their picks for other statewide and local offices as well. There were glitches in a few precincts in Loudoun and Fairfax counties, but election officials said most problems were quickly resolved and voting was going smoothly. Several precincts reported a robust morning turnout. McAuliffe, of McLean, and Cuccinelli, of Nokesville, both arrived early in their home precincts to cast their own ballots. In vote-rich Northern Virginia, which is home
WASHINGTON- A senior government official declined to say Tuesday if the administration will support legislation to fulfill President Barack Obama´s oft-stated promise that anyone who likes their health care plan will be able to keep it under the nation´s new law. Appearing before a Senate committee, Marilyn Tavenner, head of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, also said the government´s health care website has improved since its widely panned launch a month ago, and is still improving. "Users can now successfully create an account and continue through the full application and enrollment process," she said. We are now able
A new poll shows that non-ideological swing voters have walked away from President Barack Obama, which could sharply reduce his political influence and power. “The President no longer has a reservoir of personal goodwill that he can use to turn around dissatisfaction about his job performance,” say GOP pollsters Ed Goeas and Brian Nienaber, who helped craft the poll of 1,000 likely voters. “This cripples his ability to use the powers and visibility of the Presidency to move his agenda… over-exposure of the President [in speeches and rallies] becomes much more of a tightrope for the message managers in the West
Northwestern University is drawing criticism over uniforms it plans to wear against Michigan next week that show what to some look like blood stains on an American flag. The Wildcats will trade their familiar purple for the red, white and blue when they host the Wolverines on Nov. 16 to honor the Wounded Warrior Project, which supports wounded service members. The Under Armour jerseys with the stars and stripes will be auctioned off after the game, with all proceeds going to the Project. The uniforms drew immediate reaction from online sports pundits and social media users, whose responses ranged from
CGI Federal Inc, the company that created large parts of the error-plagued ObamaCare exchange website, which it says it is scrambling to fix, has recently been awarded several other government contracts. Since the ObamaCare exchange website launched on Oct. 1, government officials have signed at least five different agreements with CGI totaling $7 million, according to USASpending.gov, a government website that lists government contracts. The contracts were for computer and software development at the Department of Health and Human Services, the Department of Commerce, and the Environmental Protection Agency. One contract, for instance, was signed Oct. 19 by Department of
President Obama now says he never promised voters they could keep their health insurance plans, “period.” Talking to top backers of his permanent campaign arm, Organizing for Action, at a Washington meeting Monday night, the president made a new claim: “What we said was, ‘You could keep it if it hasn’t changed since the law was passed.’” The president gave voice to an excuse that had so far only been offered by spokesmen: That the “if you like it” claim was trumped by a less-publicized promise to ban barebones insurance policies. “If we had allowed these old plans [to continue]…
Society crumbles when it takes cues from the underclass When Snooki, whose talents include getting sloppy drunk and throwing up on camera, made Barbara Walters’ “Ten Most Fascinating People” list a few years back, one could only ask: Was Octomom not available? Last year, “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo,” which features a cornucopia of social ills, was TLC’s highest-rated show, attracting more cable viewers than the Republican National Convention, which had the misfortune to share the time slot with the charmers from Georgia. The show’s matriarch, June Shannon, has four daughters by four men, one of whose names she can’t recall. White Trash
President Barack Obama told his enthusiastic supporters Monday night that he never promised what video recordings show him promising at least 29 times. The videos show Obama promising 300 million Americans that “if you like your health-care plan, you will be able to keep your health-care plan, period.” But that’s not what he really said, Obama announced Monday in a speech to about 200 Organizing for Action supporters, gathered at the St. Regis hotel in D.C. “What we said was you could keep it if it hasn’t changed since the law was passed,” he told Obamacare’s political beneficiaries and contractors. That claim is not
President Barack Obama bragged to his aides that he´s ´really good at killing people,´ according to explosive claims in a new book about the 2012 presidential campaign. The revelation comes at a time when Obama, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009, has faced increasing criticism for his use of drones to target insurgents and terrorist suspects, particularly in Pakistan and Yemen. The London-based Bureau of Investigative Journalism estimates that Obama has authorized 326 drone strikes. Since 2004, CIA unmanned aerial vehicles have killed 2,500 to 3,600 people--including up to
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who lost the 2012 election to President Barack Obama, said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday that he believed New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie could “easily” become the GOP presidential nominee in 2016 and “save our party.” Christie most recently made national news when he decided to drop a legal challenge to rulings in New Jersey state courts that declared same-sex marriage legal there. And not long before that, he changed his position on the question of whether illegal aliens should get in-state tuition rates at New Jersey state colleges. Now he backs legislation that
The Wall Street Journal broke the news this weekend that, even as President Obama was telling the American people they could keep their health plans, “some White House policy advisors objected to the breadth of Mr. Obama’s ‘keep your plan’ promise. They were overruled by political aides.” Overruled by political aides? This is simply damning. It’s not easy to get a lie into a presidential speech. Every draft address is circulated to the White House senior staff and key Cabinet officials in something called the “staffing process.” Every line is reviewed by dozens of senior officials, who offer comments and
Mitt Romney said Sunday that Barack Obama lied about whether Americans could keep their health insurance under the Affordable Care Act — a “fundamental dishonesty” that is “rotting” the president’s second term. “When he told the American people that you could keep your health insurance if you wanted to keep that plan, period — he said that time and again — he wasn’t telling the truth,” the 2012 Republican presidential nominee said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “That fundamental dishonesty has really put in peril the foundation of his second term.” Mr. Romney has maintained a relatively low
Hillary Clinton of all people knows how political fortunes turn on a dime. But she must be puzzled nonetheless, and spooked, that over a six-month period when she made no big news whatsoever, her popularity took a double-digit tumble. A poll released last week by NBC News and The Wall Street Journal charted the decline. It found that the percentage of Americans who view her favorably had dropped to 46 from 56. The percentage with unfavorable views had risen, less strikingly, to 33 from 29. Here we go. The beginning of the end of her inevitability. It’s about time, because
Too smart to be President. Is that really Barack Obama´s problem? Mika Brzezinski thinks so. On today´s Morning Joe, as Mike Barnicle and John Heilemann kicked around the notion, as others have before, that President Obama doesn´t much like politics and the people in it, Brzezinski piped up with a different explanation for his aloofness: he´s "too smart for the job," she suggested. View the video after the jump. Heilemann had a quick comeback: "I´m not saying that, although I´m sure that´s your gloss on it." Joe Scarborough suggested that such was Obama´s gloss on it as well. So what
Think back to the fall of 2008. Congress was asked to pass a $700 billion taxpayer bailout for Wall Street. We were told it had to be passed, or else the economy would collapse, perhaps into another Great Depression. House conservatives voted it down. The stock market fell hundreds of points in response. In the ensuing panic, Congress went along and passed the bailout. That bailout, and the insane, nearly $1 trillion “stimulus” bill passed just a few months later as Obama’s first act, gave birth to the Tea Party revolution that gave Republicans a 63-seat landslide in the House in the
There is an apocryphal story about the origins of neoconservatism in the 1960s. Some liberal professors at Harvard were sympathetic to the New Left and such radical groups as Students for a Democratic Society. But one day one of these professors heard the radicals suggest burning down the Harvard library as an act of protest, and the professor suddenly realized that he had nothing in common with them at all. He organized some other professors into a vigil to protect the library at all cost. Today, the problem isn’t the New Left, but the radical right, which has dominated American
AUSTIN— Nadia Bolz-Weber bounds into the University United Methodist Church sanctuary like a superhero from Planet Alternative Christian. Her 6-foot-1 frame is plastered with tattoos, her arms are sculpted by competitive weightlifting and, to show it all off, this pastor is wearing a tight tank top and jeans. Looking out at the hundreds of people crowded into the pews to hear her present the gospel of Jesus Christ, she sees: Dockers and blazers. Sensible shoes. Grandmothers and soccer moms. Nary a facial piercing. To Bolz-Weber’s bafflement, this is now her congregation: mainstream America. These are the people who put her
More than a decade ago, Kmart was Wal-Mart´s biggest rival. But today the Sears-owned chain is in a tailspin, plagued by negative sales and disinterested customers. Last year, the company closed 100 stores after a disastrous holiday season. Brian Sozzi at Belus Capital Advisors visited several Kmart locations and took photos that illustrate how grim it is at the retailer. "The research and photos presented below show that Kmart, believe it or not, may be in worse fundamental shape than Sears!" Sozzi writes. "By fundamental I mean dreadful to visit, borderline unsafe stores that are sending the division’s financials down
