General Petraeus Gave Jill
Kelley A Medal For Schmoozing

Business Insider, by Henry Blodget

Did you know you can get a medal from the U.S. military for schmoozing? Apparently you can. At General David Petraeus´s recommendation, the Joint Chiefs of Staff gave Tampa Bay socialite Jill Kelley the country´s second-highest honor a civilian can receive, reports Jeane MacIntosh of the New York Post. Kelley received the award from Petraeus himself in a ceremony in Washington DC last year.

Eeew.

Holly, meanwhile, got nothing, not even the loyalty she was entitled to.

Having lived in two communities where the Navy and Marine Corps, respectively, represented a fair amount of the population but were shunned by the regular residents, I can see how what she did was commendable. And it didn´t involve just the officers. One early report, before the mud started flying, told of her raising funds so that lower echelon military personnel could attend the military balls.

I refuse to judge her. It was her telling her friend, a well-respected FBI agent with major accomplishments on his record, about the disturbing emails she´d been receiving. And the emails mentioned General Petraeus. It was her FBI friend who determined the emails warranted FBI attention. No one knew they were from Broadwell - just some anonymous woman making threats. And mentioning a four-star general.

Thus Kelley pulled the first thread in unraveling this strange story of Petraeus and Broadwell, which led to his resignation, and which may finally lead to his being the key to finding out who in the White House was playing games with truth after the Benghazi murders. We have a pretty good idea who the mastermind may be.

So I´m not judging Kelley.

And for those of you who think that I am making idle speculation, once he admitted to the first one, anything is possible.

Free Markets: "Small Earthquake In Chile, Not Many Killed" was once billed as the world´s dullest headline. Well, now there´s been a huge quake in Chile and not many killed. Not dull at all — viva free markets! It´s a sign of hope, particularly for the earthquake-jittery Los Angeles and Yellowstone areas, to see that Chile, a sliver of a country on the knife´s edge of a jutting tectonic plate, came out of an 8.3 mega-quake, and a series of aftershocks as high as 7.6, with just six dead — four of heart attacks. Is British TV chef Nigella Lawson’s archenemy ex-husband Charles Saatchi behind the move to deny her entry to the US? The powerful businessman has a family connection to the Obama campaign and the current US Ambassador in London, Matthew Barzun. Barzun was appointed as US Ambassador by President Obama last year. The former CNET exec is a longtime activist in the Democratic party, and was a prominent fund-raiser for the 2008 Obama campaign, organizing mass events. Saatchi’s nephew, Edward Saatchi, also worked on the 2008 Obama campaign as a manager and founded NationalField, a social network to allow campaign staff to share information.

SANTIAGO, Chile — A powerful magnitude-8.2 earthquake struck off northern Chile on Tuesday night, setting off a small tsunami that forced evacuations along the country’s entire Pacific coast. Officials reported two deaths and several serious injuries, but the area apparently escaped major damage as landslides blocked roads, power failed for thousands, an airport was damaged and several businesses caught fire. Iquique Gov. Gonzalo Prieto told Radio Cooperativa that two people were known to have died after the quake hit at 8:46 p.m. and several others had serious injuries. The mayor of Tarapaca attributed the deaths to heart attacks. The U.S. Geological Survey
