Israel and the Impossible
Peace with Hamas

American Thinker, by William Sullivan

For the first time since 1991, air raid sirens blared in the city of Tel Aviv this week, as Hamas´ militants rained hundreds of rockets upon the Israeli civilian population from Gaza. Israel immediately responded with airstrikes against Hamas´ command centers and rocket launching sites. Once again, a council of Western elite and media personalities held a global discussion to decide how they think Israel should deal with the threat Hamas poses.

In all of the discussions about Israel and Hamas, the media has been ignoring the 900-pound gorilla in the room -- Israel´s amazing new missile-defense system.

If the Hamas leaders, many of whom failed to survive last week´s war, had understood the effectiveness of Israel´s Iron Dome, would they have provoked Israel into retaliation by aiming hundreds of ineffective missiles at Tel Aviv? If the Japanese had understood the effectiveness of what would become America´s new weapon, the atomic bomb, would they have waged war against America?

The Japanese were at first in such denial about the power of the atomic bomb that they failed to surrender after Hiroshima, so it was necessary for the U.S. to also bomb Nagasaki before Japan understood that the Atomic Age had begun.

Hamas, Iran, Egypt, and Israel´s other enemies are still in denial that the Iron Dome Age has begun, led by Israel, which would prefer not to have to use its new weapon a second time, resulting in many more of its enemies´ deaths, before those enemies surrender and allow peace to come finally to the Middle East.

Perhaps Arizona governor Jan Brewer was sincere when saying that the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (SB 1062) she vetoed yesterday could “create more problems than it purports to solve.” After all, observers such as Napp Nazworth at The Christian Post contend that SB 1062 might actually — contrary to all the hysteria — have made it harder for most business owners to refuse service to homosexuals. This analysis may have merit and can be read here, but it’s irrelevant to a larger point: The GOP’s handling of this matter was a good illustration of conservatism’s fatal flaw. Whatever the legal realities, about

Obama´s Minimum Wage Ruse

President Obama´s newfound enthusiasm for the minimum wage is the political equivalent of a ruse of war. With an eye on the approaching midterm elections, the Demagogue-in-Chief hopes to lure his Republican enemies into a discussion on his ideological home turf so he can pound away at them mercilessly and distract from his own political problems. As his approval rating slides, Obama has heartily embraced the red herring as the cornerstone of his public relations strategy. Bearing his by now familiar deer-in-the-headlights look, he officially knows next to nothing about what his administration is doing and is constantly on the lookout for

Obamacare has become so unpopular that entertainment industry stars are discovering that speaking out in favor of it comes at a cost. Take Will Ferrell for example. (snip) But Ferrell’s #GetCovered post on Facebook on Monday led to an acidic sea of comments — over 4,000 and counting at press time, almost all of them negative. The actor’s followers lambasted both Ferrell for wading into politics, interspersed with links to anti-Obamacare articles from Townhall andWorld Net Daily. Farrell is not the only person depending on the goodwill of the public to discover that Obamacare support comes at a cost.

Do you get solicitations from AARP? They have been trying to sign me up for a decade now. Until recently I always tossed everything except the business reply envelope, which I would often drop in the mail empty because I have always disapproved of their philosophy of promoting subsidies and discounts based on status rather than need. I´ve noticed that the last two solicitations I have gotten from them did not contain a business reply envelope. Anyone who wanted to sign up with AARP would have to use their own stamp. The horror of National Socialism is so profound and universally acknowledged that comparing our current political and social climate with the rise of the Nazis is sometimes too often and too easily done. The radical left four decades ago observed that Hitler called for "Law and Order," just as conservatives were doing then. Conservatives have noted that the rise of paganism in American culture and the deconstruction of moral values pushed by the left hearken back to another grim legacy of Nazism. There are, however, some chilling suggestions in politics and government today that draw memories of the last days of

Republicans won California in every presidential election of the ´50s, ´60s, ´70s, and ´80s, except for the ´64 Goldwater loss. Now California has a third-world economy with one-party dominance. The pro-amnesty Republicans should think clearly about what happened to the Golden State. Today, California´s GOP has withered to a small fraction of the state´s registered voters. Since the state began tracking party affiliation in 1922, Republicans have never had such a low share. Republicans are now 29 percent of voters; Democrats are 44 percent. But California did not go quietly. In 1994, California voters, and governor Pete Wilson, tried to eliminate the incentives

The warmist cult, frustrated by the failure of nature to back-up their prophecies of doom, apparently is turning to homicidal fantasies, and venting them in the pages of the New York Times. A truly shocking cartoon was published in the pages of that formerly august newspaper, brought to our attention by wattsupwiththat.com and climatedepot.com. The Democrat-Media complex works to in effect silence conservative critics rather than engage their criticisms and debate the issues. They employ a variety of programs and techniques to ensure that substantive points from the other side will either be ignored, distorted, demonized, or delegitimized. Shut up, they explained. Most conservatives have personal experiences with this dynamic all the time: friends or family who will not engage in discussions and debates about their liberal beliefs. Their response: shut up, they explained. But this type of smothering of free speech now is writ large over America.
