Of course, the immediate cause was wacko, hate-filled terrorists. There were contributing factors along the way, like Jamie Gorelick´s "wall" and failures to act on aliens who overstayed visas.

"In April 1970, the New York City Department of Air Resources ordered contractors building the World Trade Center to stop the spraying of asbestos as an insulating material....After the 1993 bombing, inspections found fireproofing to be deficient. The Port Authority was in the process of replacing it...."

And guess what, gang? Guess what?

According to a 12/22/2011 WABC report, "the Port Authority has decided to eliminate the fireproofing of the" [new World Trade Center Transportation Hub, a] "huge above-ground steel structure that 200,000 people will pass under every day." And "a Port Authority document.... requested that those bidding on the Transit Hub contract ´Should exclude the cost of fireproofing or intumescent coating from the structural steel.´ ... [T]he Port Authority hired an engineering firm to conduct a test to see whether the steel structure without fireproofing could hold up under a fire."

How about that? Brilliant, no?

This man receive way more then he lost. The over 14,000 wounded or dead and the many thousands more will never be compensated enough. This lawsuit should have been thrown out the first day it was filed.

Thanks for this well hidden info, Veritas. I read one report buried in the depths of oblivion about three months after 9/11 that confirmed this.

I turned on the TV 8 minutes after the first plane hit and called a friend to tell him the buildings were coming down for this very reason. I had studied this potentiality when the envirowackos forced the contractors to stop using the asbestos insulation,I believe at the 62nd floor.

It was the fear of the designers and contractors that in the event of a fire, the beams connecting the floors to the vertical columns would not be properly protected. They feared critical temperatures would be reached to the point of weakening and the floors would collapse. And they were right. Thanks for the wisdom, EPA.

Actually,it´s entirely possible the airlines were at least somewhat liable and maybe it´s why Bush came up with the government´s settlement option.Lawsuits could clearly have bankrupted the airlines and insurance companies.

I´m pretty sure transportation sec. Norm Maneta(sp) sent a letter to airline CEO´s in August warning them about planes into buildings. Of course this would have been incomprehensible at the time,so they didn´t step up security.

Silverstein should stop already. He is one of the lucky ones to be alive. Stop paying his lawyers and donate that money to the sick first responders who still cant receive the proper compensation. Greed in this world is root of all that is wrong today. Silverstein is one of the poster men for this problem.

Never should have been presented in a court. It was an Absurd notion.

The tv show, NOVA did a documentary about the collapse of the WTC towers. If anybody should be to blame, its the owners of the towers who changed the building specs to cut costs and used sheetrock instead of cement to line the shafts where the stairwells were. The show proved that cement would have protected the stairways just long enough that the people who were in the floors above the damage would have been able to get out. And thanks to the enviromentalists, the fireproofing stuff was totally useless. But it did meet their standards, so that was ok.

It was really sad to watch the architect who designed the building say that he watched the towers get hit and collapse from his office building.

New York´s attorneys are thankful for Larry Silverstein! I cannot imagine what his legal fees must be at this point. He has sued everyone at his point!!

#10: Remember, the WTC Towers and Complex were owned by a gov´t agency [IIRC, The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey]. Cancelling the fireproofing could never, repeat never, have been done by a private owner. Only a political agency has the power to do so. And note in my post #4, these irresponsible, learn-nothing [pre-deleteds] are doing the same thing with the Transportation Hub!
