Obama´s Southeast Asia
Trip All Style, No Substance

Investor´s Business Daily, by Editorial

Diplomacy: So amid all the colorful and flirty photos from President Obama´s first tour of Southeast Asia, what did he actually accomplish? As usual, he served himself politically in what was largely a Potemkin mission abroad. It was obvious enough from the rubelike gaffes that the president hasn´t been particularly interested or attentive to the affairs of Thailand, Burma or Cambodia as he made his first trip since his re-election. It was pretty much all style over substance. In his tour of Burma, billed as an historic first visit since Burma´s 2007 move to democracy,

Comments:
The Cambodian first lady gave Obama the equivalent of the middle finger, see the picture.

Where has Michelle Obama been since the election?
She has been strangely quiet since.
What ever she´s doing
I´m sure she´s spending a lot of our money

Depends on what the meaning of "style" is. I´ve never seen it, but that´s just me I guess.

Just a few days ago AP was fawning over O going on about how this trip would help shape his legacy. No substance sums it up nicely. The comment he made in Burma was incredibly stupid even for him.

From my vantage point, I observed neither style nor substance. But, then again, that´s par for the course with Obama.

That is all Mr. Obama and his adminstration is capable of, can you name a single meeting/confernce in the last four years that he actually accomplished something?

Anything?

He just plays at looking good and hopes that someone will do the work to accomplish something.

Paraguayan president Federico Franco replied to his Uruguayan peer Jose Mujica ironic remarks saying that ‘evidently he’s good at geography; I guess he passed with the highest grades’ since he is aware that Paraguay is a landlocked ‘Mediterranean’ country. President Mujica besides calling on suspended Paraguay to return with ‘intelligence and pragmatism’ to Mercosur and waning about the fact that the landlocked country needs of the Parana River and the River Plate for a sea outlet, ironically stated Uruguay was willing to grant Paraguay all the rotating Mercosur presidencies

To smooth the path for financial backing from the U.S. Export-Import Bank and allay possible U.S. government concerns about him, Timchenko hired lobbyists from powerhouse Washington law firm Patton Boggs, according to emails and documents viewed by Reuters. The document, emailed by White House senior adviser Maya Shankar and obtained by Fox News, also seeks applicants to join the federal government’s behavior modification team.

HUNTSVILLE, Alabama - A reporter at a Huntsville television station has been fired for what she said was a humorous look at her job on her personal blog. Shea Allen, a special investigations reporter at WAAY-TV Channel 31, told The Huntsville Times/al.com today that the blog post - in which, among other things, she claimed to have "gone bra-less" during on-air appearances - has drawn national attention. It´s not the sort of attention she wanted, however. "I do not want to be a joke," Allen said. "I am a journalist through and through. I believe in what I do.

The Catholic cathedral in the Chilean capital Santiago is to remain closed for five days after it was vandalised by pro-abortion activists on Thursday. About 5,000 protesters marched through Santiago in support of an 11-year-old girl who was raped, fell pregnant and is not allowed to have an abortion. Some 100 demonstrators entered the cathedral, wrecking confessional booths and shouting insults at worshippers. Abortion, even for medical reasons or in cases of rape, is illegal in Chile. It was banned during the rule of Gen Augusto Pinochet, the military dictator who governed Chile from 1973 to 1990. Chilean President Sebastian Pinera

The idea of a ‘workerist government´ has been peddled in Venezuela for some years now. The late Hugo Chávez did it, and President Nicolás Maduro is persistent about it. But what do they mean by this notion? One would take that to mean that all conflicts related to labor liabilities have been settled, or that the minimum wage keeps up with inflation, or that the social security system works. Unfortunately, reality gets in the way. The government keeps huge debts with public sector workers as reported by workers themselves. Strikes, labor disputes,

Today, believe it or not, is Mick Jagger’s seventieth birthday. (He was born on July 26, 1943.) Jagger seems, so far, to defy aging, but if you look closely there have been subtle signs. In 1995, for example, when Jagger was fifty-two, Hendrik Hertzberg noticed a change in some of the Rolling Stones’ lyrics. For decades, the song “The Spider and the Fly,” which is about a rock-and-roll singer getting picked up by a woman in a bar, had featured this couplet: She was common, flirty, she looked about thirty… She said she liked the way I held the microphone.

Abortion-rights demonstrators vandalized Chile´s main cathedral during a Mass and used pews as barricades during clashes with police. A group of demonstrators broke off from a largely peaceful protest calling for the legalization of abortion Thursday night and stormed into the Metropolitan Cathedral of Santiago, interrupting the homily. They painted walls with pro-abortion messages, broke ornaments and hauled pews all the way to the Plaza de Armas square in front of the cathedral. Police in riot gear rushed to the cathedral to contain them, and arrested at least two people.

A shark is usually the last thing one wants to see at the beach. But if one designer has her way, the fearsome fish looks set to be making a splash on sunloungers and seasides everywhere this summer. The Sharkini, by Bad Aby Designs, is a gray swimsuit with a jaw-shaped cut-out at the midriff, complete with white leatherette teeth. The made-to-order costume, which costs $100 apiece, is certainly fun, but it does have its drawbacks. Those without a washboard stomach should proceed with caution - that cutaway ´bite´ will not be forgiving. And, as Jezebel wisely warns:

President Obama has been rolling up his sleeves campaigning across the country delivering a surreal stump speech message supposedly aimed at the middle class: big government works, Obamacare is manna from heaven, the wave of recent scandals are “phony” figments of the imagination, and all economic problems are the fault of the Republicans. Conveniently, he leaves out the bankruptcy of Detroit, a city run by his own party for more than half a century. His message is so stale and unconvincing, that even The New York Times and Washington Post have noticed. Both papers, usually loyal to Obama, remarked that

Sen. John McCain — a Democrat? There was confusion Wednesday after the Arizona Republican mistakenly strolled into President Obama’s meeting with Senate Democrats at the Capitol. The room full of Democrats — who happened to be meeting in the same room where the Senate GOP usually holds their weekly policy luncheons — erupted in applause and laughter as the former Republican presidential candidate made his entrance. As McCain, 76, walked out of the Dem-filled space, reporters pressed him as to why he stepped foot in the room.
