| For someone alleged to have grown up in Asia, Barack Obama is repeatedly clueless about customs there. It´s one thing if you´re a tourist. But as the president of the United States? More problematic. You may recall earlier trips there, part of his apology tours, when the Democrat president was bowing to just about everyone. In Japan, Emperor Akihito in a gesture of hospitality stuck out his hand for a Western greeting rather than expect a bow as he would from a subject. Maybe Obama skips his protocol briefings too.

His little greeting with the first lady of Cambodia. She gave him a little bow that is what one would do to a servant. The Cambodian people knew exactly what she was up to. Hilarious. The president´s awkward kiss on the cheek of Aung San Suu Kyi is nothing compared to the big smacker he will be giving Vladimir Putin in the near future. The president´s "flexibility" will come in handy as Putin will be presenting an entirely different cheek to be kissed.

Like many holidays, Easter is often associated with family memories. For me, Easter is associated with the memory of other families. It was 1975 just before Easter. The Vietnam war was ending ignominiously, with President Ford promising full American support right up through the time we left thousands of South Vietnamese sympathizers behind to confront new Communist rulers. Or risk death at sea as desperate boat people. Thanks to a tip from intelligence sources that the end of South Vietnam was near, my news employer had arranged to evacuate its two local Vietnamese interpreters and their extended families to Guam.

These electronic Obama fundraising missives are always about money, even after an historic record number of fundraisers throughout 2011 and 2012 and the incumbent´s estimated $1 billion, second winning presidential campaign, which saw him actually reap millions fewer votes than the first one. The messages are usually filled with ominous talk of fights and struggles against unnamed, but evil special interests.

The unemployment rate, because of a terrible statistic, is down to 7.6%. The number of people in this country who are not working is shameful. Ninety million Americans are no longer in the workforce. Ninety million. People not in the labor force grew by 663,000, and now 90 million. That´s the labor force participation rate. This is 1979 levels.
