Who Said It: Marco Rubio
or Barack Obama?

Slate, by Daniel Engber

By now you´ve heard the outrageous quote from Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., on his doubts about the origins of planet Earth. When asked to give its age, he replied: "I´m not a scientist, man. … Whether the Earth was created in 7 days, or 7 actual eras, I´m not sure we´ll ever be able to answer that. It´s one of the great mysteries." He´s not a scientist—no, indeed—and his comments have brought on a slew of finger wags and face-palms from the godless left. The answer was "so confused and error-riddled," wrote Phil Plait in Slate,

The earth is 4.54 billion years old ? That´s it, two decimal places? Science can´t do any better than that? Like with our national debt a rounding error could be a big number. Isn´t it pretty important for our politicians to know how old the earth is to the nearest month or so?

And the writer objects to teleprompter saying he "believes in" evolution? Perhaps the writer could reveal just where it is established that Darwin´s theory of evolution is established "scientific fact"?

Oh my God! I called it the "theory of evolution" when I should have said the "fact of evolution"! I must be anti-science! The republicans are racists! War on women!

Inter-species evolution isn´t even a theory. It´s a hypothesis. It isn´t testable nor has it been observed.

All candidates MUST learn to answer these "trap" questions. Newt would tell the reporters to pound sand, the question is not relevant.

Now I am not a fan or supporter of Newt Gingrich, but he knew how to handle the nasties of the fourth estate. All conservative candidates need the canned answers to shut them down without too much rancor in order to proceed to the important issues of the day.

Until we cease asking questions like this of candidates for public office, we´ll never solve our nation´s most pressing problems. A distraction from the issues pure & simple.

I agree, #3, regarding this as a "trap play" by the biased press.

I have to say, though, that I see nothing wrong with saying that parents ought to be able to tell their children what they believe. As it turns out children have an innate capicity to reject what parents teach them, but parents must have the right to do it nonetheless.

Rubio must be destroyed and the sooner the better. The powerful MSM is on the job and they will get it done. And there is nothing anybody can do about it. It´s just a myth the the MSM is over. They may not be as powerful as they once were but they still select our Presidents and they still destroy whoever they fear before they get off the ground. People like Akin and Moorlock (the right has them by the trainload) make it easy for them.

I would have said something like "The Earth is exactly 7,256 years old. It was created on a Tuesday, June 17th, at 9:45 in the morning, daylight savings time," and then watch the stupid reporter, thinking he got the ultimate "Gotcha" quote, write it all down and report it to show what an idiot I was. Stupid questions don´t merit serious replies.

If you question general evolution, you will look like an idiot. If you question the age of the age of the earth being in the billions, you will look like an idiot. Do so if you wish, but don´t expect to be rewarded with floods of new conservative voters.

Many years ago, when I was attending confirmation classes, my minister explained that the 7-days of creation could actually mean 7 age long periods of time, not an absolute period of seven 24 hour days. I don´t have a problem with that explanation. I also have no problem with believing that the earth has changed from a hot molten ball to its current state and that various species of animals have existed and died out over the ages. Likewise, I accept that individual species have evolved, but I draw the line at inter-species evolution. We didn´t evolve from apes.

I was walking down the street the other day and bumped into God......we had a pretty good conversation........I was querying his powers........I wondered how they translated into modern terms.......he told me that to Him, a billion trillion dollars was but a penny........and that a million billion years to Him was but a second.......

So, I asked him........."Hey, can I have a penny?"
His answer?
"In a second."

The Nuns at St. Hedwig´s in Trenton NJ told me that joke..........in 1973, to explain the whole ´7 days´ thing.

Only liberal but tmunches believe that 7 days means 7 DAYS..........

Good one, #7. We won´t hear anything like that from Marco Rubio, at least not for a couple of decades. He is slick, but he isn´t wise or seasoned enough to see things in a big picture sort of way that your sort of thinking requires.

I agree with both #3 and # 7. It´s time the right recognizes they are constantly being duped or set up by the media, even when they think the media is being friendly. They need to learn basic skills in dealing with them. In fact, they should be required to learn hw to answer every type of gotcha question, as well as, learn how to turn the gotcha back on them.

Needling questions designed to elicit a "gaffe" (as labeled by the MSM).

How about just, "I´m not a scientist and I haven´t studied it, so I don´t know." I remember when GWB was asked, at one of the debates, do you believe people are born gay, he said, "I don´t know." It´s the best answer.

How the Media Blew
the Gun Control Debate
Breitbart Big Journalism, by John Nolte    Original Article

With the total and complete defeat of gun control legislation late Wednesday afternoon, the media learned something they had obviously forgotten since pushing Obama over the reelection finish line: They do not run the country. And from what we are seeing across the media landscape since the handing down of this defeat (which was followed by a full-blown presidential hissy fit), this realization has been quite a slap to the face. The first mistake the media-complex made was the decision to immediately make the National Rifle Association the "Newtown Bogeyman."

In response to the controversy erupting over today’s New York Post “Bag Men” cover photo, the paper’s editor issued a statement to Salon standing by the editorial decision. The cover photo, which clearly singles out two males wearing backpacks in the marathon crowd shortly before the bombs went off, was accompanied by the headline: “Bag Men: Feds seek these two pictured at Boston Marathon.” Though the headline and graphics implied the two were criminal suspects, Post editor Col Allan‘s statement explains that the paper did not explicitly identify anyone as a suspect:

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama’s re-election glow is gone. Congress’ reputation remains dismal. And only about one in five Americans say they trust the government to do what’s right most of the time, an Associated Press-GfK poll finds. Most adults disapprove of Obama’s handling of the federal deficit, a festering national problem. But they also dislike key proposals to reduce deficit spending, including a slower growth in Social Security benefits and changes to Medicare. Rounding out the portrait of a nation in a funk, the share of people saying the United States is heading in the wrong direction is at its highest since last August: 56 percent.

In a Rose Garden statement in the aftermath of his failure to persuade the Senate to move on any of his gun control proposals, the president raged, Lear-like, against his opponents. It was a rather unpleasant mix–one part petulance and two parts anger. In the course of his outburst, the president said this: I’ve heard folks say that having the families of victims lobby for this legislation was somehow misplaced. “A prop,” somebody called them. “Emotional blackmail,” some outlet said. Are they serious?

Somewhere near Boston early Monday morning, he packed a bomb in a bag. It was by all accounts relatively crude — a pressure cooker, explosives, some wires, ball bearings and nails . . . nails which, hours later, doctors would struggle to remove from the flesh of bleeding victims. His motive is unclear. His intent is not: It was to maximize injury, suffering, pain, trauma and, yes, death. Perhaps Monday’s bomber will be caught, perhaps not. Perhaps Monday’s bomber will be offered a teaching job at Columbia University.

As a city, Boston is at the crux of this country´s past, present and future. This was brought home on April 15 — Tax Day, Patriots Day, Marathon Day — when two deadly bombs exploded on historic Boylston Street near the finish line of the 117th running of the Boston Marathon. The tragic blasts occurred so close to the Boston Public Library that the building — home to the personal book collection of Founding Father John Adams — is included in the crime scene. The bombs struck at the very heart of the heart of America.

The fast-moving news out of Boston on Wednesday snared some of the most respected reporters and news outlets in the country into offering false or conflicting information about whether a suspect had been arrested — leaving CNN and the Associated Press, among others, scrambling to clean up their reports as the day went on. The flood of conflicting reports, confusion, and subsequent criticism reminded some of June 28, 2012, when many media outlets — most notably CNN — incorrectly reported the Supreme Court’s Obamacare ruling.

Blame the gun lobby. Blame Republicans. Blame a handful of skittish Democrats who gave the GOP cover. Blame the entire band of demagogues who killed the modest attempt to close loopholes in a law requiring background checks for guns. Blame them, too, for jeopardizing President Obama’s entire legislative agenda. That was the point, anyhow, right? But don’t call this good news for Obama’s enemies, at least not yet, because under new rules of politics that are still being written, the victory could be Pyrrhic. In an era of voter empowerment and surprise, the GOP’s opposition to a popular gun regulation could backfire.

Of course, there is a global violent jihadist movement, loosely organized, that wants to recruit young men to influence policies at home and abroad and perhaps usher in the global caliphate. That ideology motivates some Muslims to kill innocent people. But you´re allowed to be a radical Muslim in America.
