As TV networks began to call the race for President Obama in the 2012 general election earlier this month, Karl Rove fumbled with his white board insisting the race wasn´t over and that the votes from vital Ohio counties had not yet been fully tallied. A glimmer of hope that Mitt Romney could snatch victory from the jaws of certain defeat remained visible through the squinting lens of Rove´s roseate stubbornness. As his recount was underway last weekend in Florida, Congressman Allen West basked in the glow of adulation
Comments: What stuns me when I read articles like this is how the evil, malevolent "progressives" have never stopped in their plight to totally destroy our society while the "good guys" slept. Years ago we didn´t have the internet and could only believe what those in the "news" busines told us. I believe it is not too late but we had better get moving. I think 2014 will be the year to watch.
Don´t give them any ideas, #2...that will be gone before you know it.
I heard the term "preference cascade" quite a bit before the election from conservatives, meaning that the dominos were falling at an increasing pace for Romney. I now fear a very different preference cascade has begun for America. :bleaksigh:
sure - we can be Christians down in the catacombs using secret ichthus signs to figure out where we can get together and celebrate Mass. The problem is that the USA is not 80-90% pagan. It is 80% Christian. Who let the minority take over?
I hope a wealthy landowner will invite the committee to set up its Nativity Scene on his nearby ´private´ property, complete with lights and hidden video cameras to protect the figures. In fact, this might be a good idea everywhere .... private property, where athiests don´t get to dictate Christmas tradition and where electeds aren´t apt to be bought off, as they declare Christmas null and void.
Build it and they will come. My little church renewed an old tradition of a live nativity, last year. ON the front lawn, on the busy corner of the little village. Cookies and hot chocolate and kid activities inside. It was wonderful. Don´t give up, just do it whereever and whenever you can.
Ever Christmas we used to perform as our school´s Christmas pageant the story of the birth of Christ, fully costumed, reciting the story as it was in the King James version of the Holy Bible. In a public elementary school in Pasadena, CA.
What a shame that that has been lost. It is what Christmas is about.
How long do you think it might be before enough "progressives" get on HOA boards and disallow lawn decorations on private property? You know, once the progressives have won the city property war, why would they not move to private property?
How long before enough progressives get on city councils and make it against the law for lawn or light decorations, you know, for safety reasons.
I can see the following message in the not-to-distant future:
Dear Homeowner in the City of Rosewood Park:
Ordinance #34332 now forbids the construction or implementation of any lawn decorations, lighting, or any other material in recognition of the Winter Holiday. The factors for this are clear. Such displays cause community unrest, electrical issues have proven to create fires, and such displays upset the look and feel of a city we have all worked so hard to create. Rosewood Park has always prided itself for its harmonious and balanced approach that is inclusive to all are citizens.
Such displays serve merely to divide our city. As such displays can easily be seen by public roadways and thoroughfares, they create an atmosphere of exclusion and ill will, as well as the aforementioned safety violations that could most impact children and our families.
Our city plans to lead the way for other cities to ensure that all its citizens are free to live in an environment that is free of offensive and divisive imagery, and fosters a sense of community and dignity--not provocation and coercion.
For those who still wish to observe the holiday tradition of their choice, they can still celebrate within their housing structure, as long as no seasonal music can be heard by other citizens outside the structure, and no colored lights or inside decorations are visible from public sidewalks.
Is there a new scientific consensus forming around global cooling? That’s what environmentalist Lawrence Solomon writes in the Financial Post, citing the fact that solar activity is decreasing at the fastest rate as anytime in the last 10,000 years. “Now an increasing number of scientists are swinging back to the thinking of the 1960s and 1970s,” Solomon writes. “The global cooling hypothesis may have been right after all, they say. Earth may be entering a new Little Ice Age.” Solomon adds that Columbia University’s George Kukla — who warned the U.S. government about the dangers of global cooling in 1972 — postulated
HOUSTON — Democrats will not be satisfied with anything short of full government control of healthcare. Like good disciples of Saul Alinsky, they will use any means necessary to get to this desired end. In order to achieve the holy grail of single-payer healthcare, Democrats must do three things, almost simultaneously: First, Obamacare must fail; second, destroy the private insurance market by putting private health insurers out of business; third, in conjunction with their partners in the mainstream media, they must persuade America that private insurance companies,
JPMorgan Chase admitted it is under investigation by the Justice Department over its hiring practices in Hong Kong, the latest in a string of federal probes and lawsuits against the bank that some believe is motivated by political payback. Reuters reports that JPMorgan — the largest U.S. bank by assets — disclosed the investigation Friday as part of a routine filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which is also looking into alleged cronyism in the bank’s hiring process in China. It’s the latest in bad news for JPMorgan, which agreed to pay a record-breaking $5.1 billion to the
Jeffrey Zients, the management expert and former top White House budget aide tapped by President Obama to help fix the federal Obamacare website, said Friday his repair team is still on track to have the online portal working smoothly for the “vast majority of users” by the end of this month. Mr. Zients said a pair of outages to HealthCare.gov’s network, hosted by Verizon Terremark, set the IT experts back at times. “This was a week in which we made progress and also ran into some roadblocks that slowed us down,” he told reporters on a conference call hosted by the Centers
The Obama administration has found itself on the defensive over the botched Obamacare rollout and allegations of National Security Agency spying against allies. But President Obama, fresh off the shutdown fight, is going on the offensive over immigration reform, seeing a chance to further split already-divided Republicans and boost Democrats ahead of the 2014 midterms. Obama has urged lawmakers to deliver a bill to his desk by the end of the year. A bipartisan Senate bill passed earlier this summer, but efforts in the House stalled with Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., opposing a comprehensive bill and Speaker John
According to a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, Hillary Clinton’s popularity with the American people is dropping as she has made several public appearances, subtly telegraphing a 2016 presidential candidacy. Last December, 58% of those surveyed viewed her positively, with 34% “very positive” and 24% “somewhat positive.” Now, the number of those who viewed her positively has dropped to 46%, with the “very positive” answer only held by 22% of voters and the “somewhat positive” group remaining at 24%. The 22% who view Hillary “very positively” is the lowest number for Clinton since August of 2008, the month when Barack Obama
The National Republican Senatorial Committee is punishing a Republican advertising firm for its work with the Senate Conservatives Fund, a conservative group that has fostered controversy within the Republican Party by challenging some GOP incumbents. The firm Jamestown Associates has worked for the SCF on many of its attack ads — and will no longer receive business from the NRSC as a result, the committee confirmed Friday. The move marks the opening salvo in a power struggle that has been brewing behind the scenes between the national Republican establishment and the SCF, which was founded by then-Sen. Jim DeMint of
Thursday Cable News Ratings: Fox’s Kelly Beats O’Reilly in Demo Again, As CNN Struggles by Mediaite Staff | 7:04 pm, November 1st, 2013 RATINGS With 471K viewers, Fox’s Megyn Kelly had the #1 highest-rated cable news show in the 25-54 demo for the second night in a row Thursday, beating The O’Reilly Factor, which had 438K. Bill O’Reilly beat Kelly in total viewers, 3.574M to 3.041M. Meanwhile, CNN continued to struggle in the demo, with all primetime shows coming in under 100K. The one bright spot on CNN’s lineup came at 4pm, when The Lead with Jake Tapper beat MSNBC’s
The president’s signature legislative achievement, the Affordable Care Act, is in serious trouble. As a result, so is modern liberalism. The problems with Obamacare are increasingly obvious, beginning with the administration unilaterally delaying the employer mandate. But that turned out to be merely one link in a long and troublesome chain. The other difficulties include the disastrous rollout of the federal health care exchange website, causing (for now) a six-week extension for Americans to sign up for coverage next year in order to avoid new tax penalties. There are millions of insurance cancellations. Then there’s the sticker shock caused by
A DoD official told the Senate Homeland Security Committee on Thursday that about 50 convicted felons were given access to Navy installations without the proper checks, and no one has been held accountable. A Sept. 16, 2013 DoD inspector general’s report, which was released the same day as the Navy Yard shooting, found that the Navy Commercial Access Control System (NCACS) “did not effectively mitigate access control risks associated with contractor installation access” because Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNJC) officia“As a result, 52 convicted felons received routine, unauthorized installation access, placing military
David Brock, the Clinton ally who led the public effort to pressure CNN and NBC out of their Hillary-related film projects, is set to send a letter to the chairman and president of CBS News calling on them to retract a recent "60 Minutes" segment on the attacks in Benghazi. In the letter, a draft of which was obtained by POLITICO, Brock cites a new Washington Post report revealing that the "60 Minutes" witness had previously stated he was nowhere near the diplomatic compound the night of the attack." "The 60 Minutes story should be immediately retracted and an independent investigative committee
President Barack Obama has given the nation a new “Council on Climate Preparedness and Resilience” that expands government bureaucrats’ role in how Americans use their lands, energy, waters and property. Obama announced the executive order Friday, the day after Halloween. The order is titled “Preparing the United States for the Impacts of Climate Change.” The new order was issued even though recent scientific data have contradicted claims that use of carbon energy — such as gasoline — will drive up the world’s temperature and induce damaging climate change. Average temperatures have leveled for more than a decade, despite the sharply rising use
I´m reading a terribly sad book these days. It´s a book that I thought would uplift me during the doldrums of second-year medical school, and renew in me a sense of hope. It´s called "The Audacity to Win," and it´s a memoir of Barack Obama´s 2008 presidential campaign. When I´m finished with my patient write-ups at night and get into bed, the book returns me to a time when politics inspired millions and speeches could take your breath away. The election turned out to be a landslide, and news anchors paused to reflect on the historic nature of the hour. My classmates
The firestorm over President Obama´s "you can keep your plan" lie now threatens to singe vulnerable Democrats next year, so they´re springing into action to try to force the administration to keep its word. Louisiana´s Mary Landrieu -- an ardent Obamacare supporter -- is scrambling to undo one of the obvious consequences of a law she´s voted to pass, fund, and retain: Sen. Mary Landrieu said Wednesday she would propose legislation to ensure all Americans could keep their existing insurance coverage under Obamacare, a fresh sign of the political problems the law’s rollout has created for congressional Democrats. Landrieu, a Democrat
We are only three and a quarter years away from transforming the United States of America. We may never get back to where we once were, but we can sure roll back much of the mess Barack Obama has created through his misguided policies and serial incompetence. With ObamaCare´s ascendancy and impending crash, America will be on the cusp of transformational action. The misery the ACA will bring to almost every American cannot be overestimated in its ability to incite anger -- and, anger has consequences and repercussions. The failure of the ACA has the potential to make 2014 a wave
President Obama used his executive powers on Friday to create a ´Task Force on Climate Preparedness and Resilience.´ Obama´s plan would be put in place through executive order, bypassing Congress, which has stalemated over climate legislation in recent years. A year after Superstorm Sandy devastated the East Coast, the President signed the order which is designed to make it easier for states and local governments to respond to weather disasters. The executive order establishes a task force of state and local officials to advise the administration on how to respond to severe storms, wildfires, droughts and other potential impacts of
The latest NBC/WSJ poll finds that more Americans would vote for a third party candidate for Congress than a Republican. 35% of voters prefer a Democrat, which has been steady for three years. Republicans, however, have experienced an 8-point swing against them since they took control of the House. Today, just 28% of voters say they would vote for a Republican for Congress, while 30% would opt for a third party. The GOP Establishment, engaged in open war against the Tea Party and conservatives, is simply committing political suicide. Listening to the consultant and pundit class who inhabit the "Acela line"
In one of the few political jokes attributed to a physicist, Ernest Rutherford once described a public official as being “like a Euclidean point: he has position without magnitude.” With a change of pronoun, he could have been describing Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, who ignored internal warnings about flaws in HealthCare.gov, botched its rollout, minimized her involvement and blamed her contractors. Now, in congressional testimony, she has accepted responsibility without the inconvenience of accountability or the demonstration of competence. Administration incompetence is not the final word on Obamacare, but it is the initial impression.
Every disaster has its moment of clarity. Physicist Richard Feynman dunks an O-ring into ice water and everyone understands instantly why the shuttle Challenger exploded. This week, the Obamacare O-ring froze for all the world to see: Hundreds of thousands of cancellation letters went out to people who had been assured a dozen times by the president that “If you like your health-care plan, you’ll be able to keep your health-care plan. Period.” The cancellations lay bare three pillars of Obamacare: (a) mendacity, (b) paternalism and (c) subterfuge. (a) Those letters are irrefutable evidence that President Obama’s repeated you-keep-your-coverage claim
CNN´s senior legal analyst thinks that any further investigation into Benghazi is looking at a "non-story" since "there is nothing there, in terms of a scandal." On Thursday´s AC360 Later, Jeffrey Toobin scoffed at Republican efforts to gain access to more Benghazi witnesses and CIA operatives. "This is a non-story. Benghazi was a tragedy. It´s not a scandal. Republicans are going to investigate this until the end of the Obama administration. They will find nothing, because there´s nothing to be found there," he insisted. [Video below the break. Audio here.]"We don´t know all the facts about the Civil War. If
Food stamp benefits will be cut to more than 47 million Americans starting Friday as a temporary boost to the federal program comes to an end without a new budget from a deadlocked Congress to replace it. Under the program, known formally as the Supplemental Nutrition and Assistance Program, or SNAP, a family of four who get $668 per month in benefits will find that amount cut by $36. SNAP, which benefits 1 in 7 Americans, is administered by the department of Agriculture and is authorized in a five-year omnibus farm bill covering all agricultural programs. Vulnerable populations will be hardest hit by
A former top general and current executive at the Family Research Council says members of the military have considered staging a coup d´état against President, but will not because of civilian control of the military. "People I´ve spoken to would like to see the military ´fulfill their constitutional duty and take out the president,´ " retired Army Lt. Gen. William Boykin told World Net Daily, a website best known for pushing Obama "birther" conspiracy theories. "Our Constitution puts a civilian in charge of the military and as a result a coup would not be constitutional. You´re not going to see a
When Liz Cheney, the daughter of the former vice president, decided to run against a sitting Republican senator in Wyoming, her target, Mike Enzi, pleaded, “I thought we were friends.” But if Enzi thought his long relationship with the Cheneys might ensure a gentle, collegial contest of ideas, it’s increasingly clear he thought wrong. The Cheney clan has undertaken a scorched-earth campaign against the well-liked, low-key conservative and his allies, demonstrating a seemingly limitless appetite for conflict—and leaving innocent bystanders as stunned casualties in their wake. Dick Cheney, who has been giving media interviews to promote his new memoir, spent part of
President Obama just issued an executive order “to prepare the Nation for the impacts of climate change by undertaking actions to enhance climate preparedness and resilience.” “The impacts of climate change — including an increase in prolonged periods of excessively high temperatures, more heavy downpours, an increase in wildfires, more severe droughts, permafrost thawing, ocean acidification, and sea-level rise — are already affecting communities, natural resources, ecosystems, economies, and public health across the Nation. These impacts are often most significant for communities that already face economic or health-related challenges, and for species and habitats that are already facing other pressures.
