This is all about trying to organize and unionize Walmart employees.

Funny thing about Obamacare is it takes away one of the big points for union organizing - better health care.

Republians need to state they are not against unions or union workers.

What shouldn´t be happening is automatic payroll deduction of the union dues that is then deposited into the union´s account.

The union should have to collect those dues from their members, and have the related over-head to handle.

Just exactly what are people who earn millions supposed to learn from winos and purple haired girls with pins in their noses? If they knew how to run a business, they would not be working for minimum wage.
By all means treat them decently and pay them commensurate with what they produce. At the same time, don´t assume they have some great wisdom that will manifest itself if only they are paid more.

I guess the millions that Wal-Mart gave Obama and the democrats isn´t eough for Soros and the left. Maybe you reep what you sew.

You get what you pay for. If you are paying minimum wage you get employees who have decided to settle for the minimum they can legally be paid. Not saying it´s a bad thing. Just saying - you get what you pay for.

Wal-Mart won´t do a thing but fire all of them...it doesn´t take loads of intelligence to put stuff on shelves (labled) and slide the merchandise across a scanner then do the credit card thing...in which the customer does all the work. So what skill is required here and why would Wal-Mart care?

If they have a strike, WalMart should shut their doors and put up a huge sign with the name of the union boss, the union´s telephone number and address. Make sure Soros´s name is included.

I would not feel safe to walk a picket line in front of Wal Mart on the Black Friday they shut because of my greed.

People need to see what the unions are. The recent Hostess bankruptcy was a bit of a wake-up call, but the pro-union, anti-management propaganda was thick. Companies fighting for their lives need to inform people as it´s happening. Fewer will be put out of work when the unions are not so powerful.

You want to blame someone for the way Wal-Mart treats people? Blame the American public.

That´s right. As a guy who started out in retail, it´s the American buyer that created Wal-Mart, or what it is today.

I started out my career in computer retail, in 1980, when computers were just moving from hobbyist devices to items everyone wanted. I worked in a premium service store. We charged a little more, but would give in-depth demonstrations, free classes, really sit with customers to figure out what they wanted. It worked, for a while. Then we noticed people would take the knowledge they learned from us, and go down the street and buy, sometimes only for $30 difference in price. People decided that price was king, nothing else mattered. Besides, with the money they saved they could buy a box of floppies! So the high touch places went out of business.

YOU, the American public, decided you wanted shockingly cheap merchandise, and lots of it, instead of quality stuff and good service. To do that, it´s a game of buying the cheapest stuff and running the enterprise as cheaply as possible. I have dealt with Corporate, by the way, and it´s just about as basic as you can possibly imagine even for the management.

You reap what you sow, so stop complaining about big bad Wal-Mart.

It remains to be seen whether those workers realize that MoveOn wants one of two things: to see Wal-mart go out of business or to see it go union before going out of business. Think General Motors without any chance of government takeover. Think Hostess.

#10 you are partically correct. It´s not the "American public" however, it´s simply human nature. Human beings will act in their best interests. If you make a decent living, but are not rich, it is in your best interests to pay as little for blue jeans and groceries and tennis shoes and toothe paste as possible. It just is.

The way the market is pure, is that human nature tells us about both the supply and demand side of reality. Wal Mart is a purely volunatry situation, from shopper, to supplier, to vendor, to employee. Nothing wrong with that. It just is what it is: human nature.

Wal Mart did not invent human nature. They simply recognized it.

If the Evil George Soros is pushing for the strikes against WalMart, you can bet he´s laid down Large Money on one of WalMart´s national or international competitors.

Thousands of bargain-hunters lined up at six AM would mitigate the effect of a few union thugs with signs.

What idiot came up with this strategy? TV cameras will be pressed to find the pickett line during the AM madness.

Expect Wal-Mart to set up do-it-yourself check-out aisles. Byebye jobs for dozens of cashiers per store. They are one of the few stores in this area that has not taken this action to date. from my experience, 3/4 of the cashiers could be eliminated, since one employee can monitor 4 self-service check out lanes.The more the Union presses Wal-Mart, the more action they will take to reduce their dependence on humans. They will declare that most of the remaining employees are management and thus cannot be Unionized. There are hundreds of thousands of folks that need these jobs, and they do not pay minimum wage, as stated in another comment.

I buy at Wal-Mart all the time. I buy mostly food and household items. The store has many regular employees who have been there a long time. I have had conversations with these employees and they are not stupid people. If they were not happy or satisfied with the way they were treated, I am sure they would have left a long time ago. Anyone who does not like what they are paid or the boss, can seek employment elsewhere. If there are no other jobs available then they are lucky to have a job.

I don´t shop exclusively at Wal-Mart but it is a good place to shop if you are on a limited budget.

I will be EXTREMELY happy if they do this...and then WalMart FIRES the LOT of them and hires replacements!

I GUARANTEE you WalMart would have NO TROUBLE finding people who would like to work there.

Wal-Mart employees are often unskilled, less educated, people. They work there for minimum wage, because that is all that is often available for someone meeting that description in an economy like this.

There are a lot of unskilled, less educated people who would kill to have a Wal-Mart job right now.

I´m guessing Soros is shorting Walmart stock as he speaks. He does nothing that doesn´t have a financial benefit to him.

Does any one here know for a fact that Wal-Mart only pays minimum wage? It is possible that newbies start there but within three months or so they get a raise. I´m not saying that Wal-Mart is overly generous, but as has been stated above, WM pays for the needed skills what it thinks they are worth, like everyone else, except maybe gov.
Please stop the knee-jerk WM bashing. WM sells a whole lot of name brand merchandise. Pay more somewhere else if you´ve got money to burn. It´s your choice. This is getting so old.

I know that Walmart pays more than minimum wages here. They may start out at min., and work up but they do make more and have limited insurance.

These are union & OWS thugs, posing as WalMart employees. WalMart´s position that they are trespassing should allow them to be forcibly removed from private property.

Nothing my wife would like more than to tell a Union pickiter what to do with that sign they are carrying as she goes to Walmart´s Black Friday sale. Only a crazy person gets between women and those bargains. Just sayin´.

Wal-Mart should never have conceded anything to the socialists. Once they did they are never ending demands from them.

I saw a local news spot on this issue. They said the "average" wage at WM is $11 per hour, slightly more than half of the workforce is given a promotion each year,and roughly 75% of "management" started out as hourly wage paid employee.

From personal (family) experience, locally the starting wage is $8, not "minimum" wage, the first raise is after 90 days, and they have very good stock options through payroll deductions and a program to encourage higher education.

One can easily start as a "stock boy" get help with business classes through college graduation and be promoted to management, if one has the desire.

The local stores also hire "special" people for jobs within their ability, such as greeters, janitors and cart chasers.

The union mentality is that low wage, low-skill jobs like working in a retail store or on an assembly line, are somehow "careers". But they aren´t supposed to be. They are supposed to be a place to start and work your way up as you gain experience and more skills. Unions want to see these people as permanent peons always working for the lower wages but allowing the union to milk and bilk out all that it can from the employer. If people would look at the jobs for what they really are (a stepping stone to the next higher level job) then the unions could never get their hold on them and destroy the companies with their extortion.

With any luck, we´re headed for some good old-fashioned American labor violence. Give us a chance to thin that herd a bit. It´s long overdue.

Sorry, buy only new hires will strike. Those employees not only need their jobs, but afraid of losing their retirement and stock. They are so scared of losing their jobs that most of them did not claim their part of the class action suit.
