Raising taxes increases revenue only in the short term, as Democrats know all too well. Then the revenues nosedive because money taken out of the private sector reduces economic activity; hence, reduced tax revenues. Reducing taxes has always increased revenues as Democrats going back to JFK also know all too well. Dems don´t care about the amount of revenue - they just want to control a larger percentage of the revenue in order to increase their control over our lives. Barone is full of crapola.

Agree with #1, time to go over cliff! Any new revenues (Taxes) taken in thru compromise will be spent before ink is dry! Also, take a look at 1963 Communist Manifesto, there isn´t much left to compromise on!

Anyone who accepts a promise of a spending cut in return for a real tax increase doesn´t deserve to be in Congress.

The problem with that, #8, is that his only explanation will be ´it is the republican´s fault for not compromising with me!´ That´s all he will say, and the LSM will echo his words, and 2/3 of the country will believe it.

I heard Hugh Hewitt today saying he was open to higher rates! They (congress0 never cut spending. Cut spending is the answer. What are republicans trying to do? Next they will be open to amnesty.

Absolutely, totally 100% false. Americans had a choice this November, and they voted for bigger government. Rather (than) shielding voters from the consequences of their decisions, let them pay for it.

We would be better off if the Republicans left on a 9 month holiday. Let the Fiscal Cliff happen, and let the Spending Limit be met. If the Obama supporters want it, let them have it.

We flew off the fiscal cliff a long time ago. Now we´re just grasping for a root sticking out along the way.

Where are our negotiators? Why aren´t they repeating as a tag on every sentence, "We´re waiting for 0bama to tell us where we must cut the entitlements which account for __% of the deficit and tax increases on the rich which would only fund the govt for ___days.

0bama is repeating ad nausem the same "punish the rich" in every other sentence. Why don´t the repubs fight fire with fire?

I agree with others that I want the implosion that will come from the cliff, but from a purely personal perspective, theres one tax increase in there that will cost our family a huge amount. Im afraid its a fait accomplis.

Just vote "present" on everything. Watch it crash and burn-then be there to pick up the pieces. Nothing else will put us back on the right track. We really do need to hit bottom.

As an aside, has anyone stop to think about this: The two poorest states in the Union, one of which is the largest state in the Union, voted for obama.

The most successful state which is also the second largest state in the the Union, voted for Romney.

I don´t think compromise will happen at all - we will go over the "fiscal cliff".

Obama is a total ideologue and I believe he does want the country to go over the cliff. He doesn´t believe any of this budget/deficit stuff anyway, it will bring in a lot of new revenue to the Feds and it will give him a golden opportunity to blame the resulting recession/depression on the Republicans.

How could he do this? Easy. Whenever the Republicans agree with his proposal, he can just up the stakes. At some point, the Republicans will refuse to budge any further, and - poof - Obama can blame the Republicans.

In the past, whenever Obama has been offered a choice between doing the best thing for Obama vs the best thing for America, he 100% of the time chooses what he thinks is best for himself.

I agree with 21, Just vote present and when it all crashes wrap it around their necks & maybe the gimmie public will suffer enough to get some sense. They fail to see what Socialist Europe is encountering or they don´t care. God help us.

The only problem is that when a Democrat talks about both sides giving ground, it´s about the GOP giving ground and the Democrats demanding they give more ground.

Treat the fiscal cliff like the republicans treated obamacare. Since no republicans voted for it, it is all theirs. Also, I have hear this line the democrats are touting before: they will gladly pay us tuesday for a hamburger today. Don´t give any ground. Let´s go over the cliff.

All he does is yap! If he were serious about the fiscal cliff,he wouldn´t be jet setting around the world at tax payers´ expense making goo goo eyes. What exactly is he doing there that his diplomatic corp cannot achieve?
