The truly short-sighted are those who voted for a gun-grabbing, big-government collectivist as well as those who voted for Obama.

I know a few in NY state who did. Of course this is a non-swing state, but still it does affect popular vote total.

A vote for the libertarian was a vote for Obama. As Geraghty points out, the libertarian message isn´t going to be heard in Washington.

I´m pretty sure the students who voted for Johnson weren´t voting for smaller government but for the right to get baked legally.

But if you´re going to try to argue that voting libertarian did diddly squat to advance the libertarian cause ... well, let´s just say I need more convincing. However, it doesn´t look like libertarians crashed Romney. His own campaign did.

No, it isn´t a vote for Obama. A libertarian or other third party vote, is a vote for your beliefs as they stand so you can get a proper, quality demographic read on the population - and the main parties can take that into account and start pandering to those segments in the next election.

To me, short sighted is voting for bad just to get rid of worse. Thats what got us into this mess in the first place. Both parties have done their level best to restrict our freedoms and loot our money. Romney was no different. He talked a good game toward the end, but his history of actions contradicted his words. Words from a politician mean nothing. Past behavior means something.

On an unrelated note...who decided what color the parties would be? It is far more appropriate for the Dems to be red.

There were two men running in this last election that had the chance to be president, NØbama and Romney. Unless you voted for Romeny, it was as good as voting for NØbama. Voting for a third-party candidate, or not voting, to make a ´´statement´´, simply made the statement that your ´´principals´´ were more important than the survival of this republic. Period!!!

This election was not about principals. It was about saving this nation from single-party Demon-RAT rule! We lost, and idiotic libertarians get a big chunk of the blame for that!!! If I thought my vote would have counted for anything, I would have voted for Romney to get rid of Obama. But I live in Maryland.

I voted for Gary Johnson. If the Romney people wanted the Ron Paul supporters´ votes, they wouldn´t have replaced a good chunk of the duly elected Paul convention voters with Romney replacements. They would have not changed the rules so that Paul would not be nominated, contrary to what the rules going into the convention would have allowed. Those actions told me what a Romney administration would really be like: Strong armed tactics, no respect for Tea Party supporters or Constitutionalists.

I know people who voted for Gary Johnson because they thought it was safe to make a protest vote.

Also the Ron Paul people need to thank their hero. Ron Paul could have done the decent thing and supported the party´s candidate. He and Ross Perot are two of a kind IMHO.

I know libertarians who helped Obama get reelected by doing this. In my view, they intentionally helped Obama get reelected because their libertarianism leans more Left than Right, but they´d never ever admit this to anyone, including themselves.

All this navel gazing is a waste of energy. If they don´t fix how elections are conducted in the US, we will never again have a real one.

Exactly what does the new and improved republican party have to offer? The recent party has offered us two rinos who really want to be dems. They even went so far as to offer a man who initiated the original obamacare, signed into law gay marriage and is at heart, pro-abortion. Now tell me, if that is not a dem, what is? And he could not be elected because? With the new ideas of the upcoming class of republicans, there is nothing left for a white right winger. One who believes in the U.S.A. Constitution, God, family, hard work, good education and being successful based on merit. Attacking someone like me is useless. YOU adapt and become the popular party (won´t happen, the dems have that niche). Don´t revile others for retaining their standards. Your new idols, dems, don´t do that.

Kudos #16. Hey, all you so-called libertarians who are so proud they voted for their principles, riddle me this. How did you vote for your principles by voting for a man who will ensure that this country becomes a socialist state? I guess this is a revelation, but we have a 2 party system, not a multi-party system. If you don´t like the way the Republican Party does things, then work within the system to make the Republican party reflect your principles. Start with local offices. Oh wait, that would take work, commitment, and more than just whining that Ayn Rand isn´t on the ticket. What you´ve done is simply hand this country to the leftists. I will make sure my children know that you are just as responsible for the coming end as the die-hard Marxists and ignorant leftists.

When I was in line to vote, in walked my Democrat neighbors. Since our line wound down the hall & doubled back in the rec room, we stood facing each other for a few minutes. Loudly she said to me, "We´re just here to cancel out your votes. That´s the only reason we came."

"Isn´t America WONDERFUL????!!" I proclaimed, even louder.

P.S. I bit my tongue first, because I really wanted to say, "What a coincidence! That´s why we´re here, too -- to cancel yours!"
