Former president Bill
Clinton sees Sandy´s devastation
first-hand in Rockaways visit

He feels their pain. Former president Bill Clinton visited the Rockaways this weekend, and got a first-hand look at Hurricane Sandy devastation that rocked the normally tranquil Queens neighborhood. Clinton Global Initiative volunteers and the 42nd president hit the streets for their Day of Action efforts to pick up the pieces left behind by Sandy. "We were glad to make a small but meaningful difference in the community and were moved by the perseverance and kindness of those living through such hardship in the storm´s wake," Clinton wrote on his Facebook page late last night.

A fella gets pretty lonely when the Missus is far away in Australia, drinking wine and sleeping. (Wasn´t that the PIAPS assignment?)

I never thought I´d say it, but I find myself a little nostalgic for the "good old" Clinton Administration days, when they sorta seemed to have a clue.

The winner will get $1.62 million, up from $1.44 million in 2013. Second place will pay $972,000, up from $864,000 a year ago. The Masters doled out $8.102 million in 2013. Ten years ago, the total payout was a little more than $6.28 million. LOW AMATEUR: Oliver Goss is the first Australian to finish as the low amateur at the Masters. Chelsea Clinton says when people ask her these days whether she wants to go into politics, her answer isn’t an automatic “no.” The 34-year-old former first daughter told Fast Company in an interview published Monday, “for so long the answer was just a visceral no. Not because I had made any conscientious, deliberate decision, but since people had been asking for as long as literally I could remember, it was no." Now, the only child of former President Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton explains, "I live in a city and a state and a country where I

The Justice Department is considering whether to bring federal hate crime charges against a man accused of killing three people outside a Jewish community center and retirement home in Kansas City, Attorney General Eric Holder said Monday. Three people were killed in the Sunday rampage, which police allege was carried out by Frazier Glenn Cross. Cross is a former leader of a chapter of the Ku Klux Klan, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center. “Justice Department prosecutors will work with their state and local counterparts to provide all available support and to determine whether the federal hate crimes statute is

People participating in the food stamp program outnumbered the women who worked full-time, year-round in the United States in 2012, according to data from the Department of Agriculture and the Census Bureau. In the average month of 2012, according to the Department of Agriculture, there were 46,609,000 people participating in the food stamp program (formally known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program). That contrasts with the 44,059,000 women who worked full-time, year-round in 2012, according to the Census Bureau’s report on Income, Poverty and Health Insurance Coverage in the United States.

First, the bad news: Even if the economy improves, middle-class career paths will continue to disappear as globalization and technological innovation render more jobs obsolete. Now, the good news: The fear, stress and humiliation caused by unemployment (and underemployment) can be alleviated with a simple solution. And now, the even-better news: This simple solution is starting to find backers on both sides of the political spectrum.

Campaigns are about numbers, so here are a few: After two separate recent events in Houston, President Obama will have attended 373 fundraisers during his five-plus years in office. That´s just about one every five days or so. Assuming he speaks for close to 15 minutes at each event, that´s well over 5,000 presidential minutes consumed by the dirty business of asking people for money. And that doesn´t include the prep, the glad-handing and hobnobbing, the photos, the private asides, the travel. The stats (as compiled by CBS News reporter Mark Knoller) illustrate in stark detail something everyone already knows:

The radio host and sometimes O’Reilly Factor fill-in was on This Week With George Stephanopoulos this morning and got right to the point: What does it take to get fired in the Obama administration? Let’s ask a very simple question, if this were an NCAA coach, if this were a corporate CEO, and we had a product roll-out as bungled and as disastrous as this, it wouldn’t be five months later that she was fired. In the wake of Kathleen Sebelius’s ouster from her job as secretary of Health and Human Services, there has emerged a debate about what the Los Angeles Times calls “Obamacare and the Sebelius legacy.” From a moral perspective, though, that is like debating whether Chairman Mao’s provision of free health care should overshadow the horrors of the Cultural Revolution. To be fair, the body count Sebelius left behind in Kansas does not nearly match that of Mao, but the body count is real. During Sebelius’s six years as governor, women came from 48 states and points beyond to have late-term

Who throws a shoe? Honestly! That would be 36-year-old Alison Ernst of Phoenix, Arizona, who was charged Thursday night with disorderly conduct by the Las Vegas Police Department after allegedly throwing a shoe at former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. According to NBC News, who spoke with a Secret Service official, the U.S. Attorney’s office has declined federal prosecution. Ernst was wearing shoes on Thursday night when she attended a speech Clinton was giving in Las Vegas, but apparently brought an extra one specifically to throw at the former secretary of state. The official said the incident appeared to be “premeditated.”

A Nevada cattle rancher appears to have won his week-long battle with the federal government over a controversial cattle roundup that had led to the arrest of several protesters. Cliven Bundy went head to head with the Bureau of Land Management over the removal of hundreds of his cattle from federal land, where the government said they were grazing illegally. Bundy claims his herd of roughly 900 cattle have grazed on the land along the riverbed near Bunkerville, 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas, since 1870 and threatened a "range war" against the BLM on the Bundy Ranch website after one of

When you mention the prospect of Clinton vs. Bush 2016 a funny thing happens. First, there is the reflexive response: "Oh no, not again. We don´t need more dynastic politics in this country." But upon further reflection, you realize Jeb Bush vs. Hillary Clinton would be a great race and actually good for the country. Let´s review. QUALIFICATIONS—THEY’VE BOTH GOT THEM. A rapid shift to wind and solar power is needed if the world is to avoid catastrophic global warming, the United Nations warns in a crucial report today. Emissions of greenhouse gases need to be cut by up to 70 per cent before 2050 to control climate change, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) says. ‘Large-scale changes in energy systems’ are required, with coal power stations to be switched off and replaced by wind and solar. And the transformation needs to be made in the next 15 years or controlling climate change will become increasingly harder and more expensive. The report was published

LAS VEGAS — The Nevada Republican Party stripped opposition to abortion and gay marriage from its platform Saturday as state convention delegates instead focused on judging fellow Republicans on their worthiness to serve in office and adherence to GOP values. The platform, with few changes, was adopted overwhelmingly as the Las Vegas convention stretched late into the evening. The vote mirrors that of the Clark County GOP, which voted earlier to remove platform language defining marriage as between a man and a woman and statements opposing abortion. Many Republicans are re-evaluating their strong stances on conservative social issues as public

As the midterm elections approach and the administration’s incompetence, along with the distaste for the president’s signature ObamaCare legislation, drive the party’s chances down further, the make-believe coalition of opposites may well crumble if the opposition doesn’t blow it. Some time back, whenever a big racial controversy erupted, I trained myself into the habit of reading about it at FoxNews.com, just for the unbelievable comment threads. Let’s put it this way: If my friends and I went out to a bar and started playing a “let’s write the racist FoxNews.com comment thread” drinking game, our efforts couldn’t begin to approach what I read there.I wasn’t alone. Liberal websites started feasting on these threads. And so, a couple of years ago, Ailes & Co. got wise. Stories about race were, at least in my disheartened experience, closed to comments.
