Sen. McCain calls for Bill
Clinton to lead Israel-Palestinian talks

The Hill [Washington DC], by Brendan Sasso

Original Article

Posted By:JoniTx, 11/18/2012 7:02:53 PM

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) suggested on Sunday that President Obama should send former President Bill Clinton to lead cease fire talks between Israelis and Palestinians. "We need a person of enormous prestige and influence to have these parties sit down together as an honest broker," McCain said on CBS´s “Face the Nation”. He joked that Clinton would hate him for floating his name for the difficult task. Violence has escalated rapidly in recent days, after Israel launched air strikes in Gaza after a spike in rocket attacks from Hamas.

Is McCain on the campaign trail? Is he nuts after all? Is the Republican party over? The nastiness coming out from all the losers and thinking they could have done better without Romney, are getting boring. McCain is nothing but a democrat shill. No wonder he didn´t win. Guess he wants a legacy of sorts. What a fool! He´s another one like Obama who thinks we are stupid.

What a great idea Senator McCain, let´s get Bill Clinton the Nobel Peace Prize. Why not now that Obama received it for nothing else then being elected.

Reply 9 - Posted by: Teleologicus, 11/18/2012 8:00:06 PM     (No. 9022697)

I fear Senator McCain has now gone considerably past his shelf life. There are two problems with his suggestion:

1. The Palestinians, or those appointed or chosen to represent them, have not the slightest interest in peace, as half a century of fruitless talks and the current hostilities should show anyone; and

2. Bill Clinton aka Slick Willy, he of "it depends upon what the meaning of is is." The man who "did not have sex with that woman." Well, okay, it depends upon what the meaning of sex is. Oral sex is not like, you know, regular sex. The man whose law license was suspended for 5 years and who was fined $25,000 for willfully providing misleading information to the court. I don´t know if he ever bothered to try to restore his license. Democrat lawyers seem to have a problem maintaining their licenses to practice and may feel they have a freer hand to lie, cheat, misrepresent and engage in corrupt practices without the ethical constraints -such as they are- of a license to practice law.

John McCain should give some serious consideration to fading away. One can commiserate with his POW experiences without asserting that he has, on the whole, been of a great deal of service to his country. Puffing up the reputation of a scoundrel like Slick Willy raises real questions about McCain´s mental functioning as well as adding to the confusion of an already thoroughly addled electorate.

I don´t get why this is such a bad idea. He still does have a lot of prestige around the world, outside of domestic Republican circles. Might as well be nonpartisan - seems to be the only game in town these days. Besides, unlike our perpetual presidente, he doesn´t hate Israel.

There is no need for Israeli-Palestinian peacetalks more complicated than a simple statement by Hamas to Israel: ´´We surrender.´´

When Hamas runs out of missiles and its missile installations have been destroyed, then the leader of Hamas can sue for peace by simply asking someone who does not have to be ´´a person of enormous prestige and influence´´ -- Bill Clinton´s wife, for example -- to provide a table so he can sign a surrender document.

This is a brilliant move. In one fell swoop, McCain has put Bambi between a rock and a hard place. He has:
1. Planted in everyone´s minds the need for Bambi to seek help from his much smarter predecessor.
2. Sown even more ill will from Bill toward Bambi if Bambi thinks of appointing ANYONE else to take on this task, thereby depriving Bill of a Nobel Peace Prize.
3. Made it clear that Hillary isn´t up to this task; therefore, she´d be a lousy POTUS--only her husband is up to the task.
4. Made Bambi look foolish if he appoints anyone but Bill or himself. We all know that Bambi has weak interpersonal and negotiating skills, and is much more comfortable playing golf, vacationing, or campaigning. Moreover, Bambi knows that in peace talks, he will be bereft of both the TelePrompter and ValJar, so he´d fail utterly.

Brilliant!

Everytime there are peace talks, only Israel has to give up something..something like the Gaza and the Jews that lived there leaving their homes and farms behind. The Palestinians only wanted it for a closer place to launch rockets.

Good points, #33. It´s also worth remembering the details of Bill Clinton´s experience with Israeli-Palestinian talks when he was president. Rumor has it that he was pretty bitter at the Palestinians´ (Arafat´s) last minute shenanigans -- especially that it cost him the Nobel Peace Prize. Bill Clinton never forgets. It might be interesting to see how that experience would affect his efforts today.

troops and citizens if they were attacked again. McCain was slamming Obe.

A few years after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, Lindalyn Adams was escorting visitors on a bus traveling down Elm Street near Dealey Plaza. “I was pointing out the John Neely Bryan cabin and the Old Red Courthouse, and suddenly I realized the whole bus was leaning towards the right as we were going close to the Texas School Book Depository, and the women [were] pointing and saying, “Is that?
