Kean, Florio: Hurricane Sandy
rebuilding effort is opportunity
to confront climate change

Star-Ledger [Newark, NJ], by James J. Florio and Thomas H. Kean

Original Article

Posted By:Ribicon, 11/18/2012 1:37:46 PM

In the United States, we have a tradition of honoring our losses with calls to action. This element of our American character — learning and growing from crises — provides opportunities for us to demonstrate leadership to our fellow citizens here at home and to others abroad. The losses from Hurricane Sandy are tragic, heart-wrenching and devastating. Like so many others in New Jersey, we find it hard to put into words the sincere and deep sorrow we have felt over the personal, emotional and economic toll taken on so many New Jerseyans from Cape May to High Point,

Comments:
Two former liberal governors of New Jersey—"Flim Flam" Florio and Tom "Jamie Gorelick?/9-11" Kean—suggest we need a new Marshall Plan (no doubt with "federal funds") to buttress the Garbage State against the menace of global warming.

Where exactly is the scientific evidence that climate change had anything whatsoever to do with Sandy? I must have missed that.

The areas flooded in New York were the reclaimed land where various trash had been dumped since the 1700´s. Nature just sent the water up to the old shoreline.

So... tear down all those buildings and restore back to the wetlands that were there.

Marblemouth Kean and Marblehead Florio - - two freaking idiots.

Their glo-bull warming hurricane was followed a few days later by a freak early-November blizzard. So - - let´s just focus on the hurricane - - and ignore that inconvenient blizzard which ripped through New Juhuhuhuhuhuhsey.

Being idiots is their problem - - but when they hold our intelligence in contempt - - then they´ve got a problem with US!

Political opportunism, making partisan advantage of other people´s sorrow. Apparently any sorrow will do: I hadn´t noticed any victims complaining about unseasonable heat. If hurricanes are markers climate change then what does it mean there have been so few in recent years? These people predict everything right after it happens, and are ready with a policy prescription, always the same one. Policymaking ambulance chasers.

Five of the six family members — including two toddlers — injured in a house explosion on Detroit’s east side Thursday night are still recovering after suffering severe burns from the fire that leveled the house. It may surprise some Americans to learn that almost one-quarter of the people living in Switzerland are foreigners. Even so, just over 50 percent voted last month to cap immigration, which, unchecked, could leave indigenous Swiss a minority in 50 years. Newsweek´s headline over the story was typical: "Switzerland´s Sudden Fear of Immigrants." Fear. Immigrants. The German publication Spiegel Online wrote also about "scaremongering." The enlightened reader´s thought-bubble is now supposed to register the word "racism." Washington — Americans barely increased their spending in February following a weak January performance, strong evidence that the severe winter will hold back the economy in the first quarter. Consumer spending rose 0.3 percent in February following an even weaker 0.2 percent rise in January, the Commerce Department reported Friday. The January performance was cut in half from an initial estimate of 0.4 percent. For February, spending on autos and other durable goods actually fell and much of the small gain reflected higher utility payments to pay heating costs. Analysts said consumer spending, which accounts for 70 percent of economic activity, has

As the corruption investigation of former Charlotte Mayor Patrick Cannon went back underground Thursday, a nagging question hung over his embarrassed city: Couldn’t this have been known before he was elected mayor in November? According to an affidavit released this week, the FBI became aware of possible illegal activity of then-City Council member Cannon as early as August 2010. By the time Cannon was sworn as the city’s top elected leader, undercover agents posing as real estate developers had flown him and his wife to Las Vegas and paid him almost $30,000 in bribes, prosecutors say. As part of its plan to reduce U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, the Obama administration is targeting the dairy industry to reduce methane emissions in their operations. This comes despite falling methane emission levels across the economy since 1990. The White House has proposed cutting methane emissions from the dairy industry by 25 percent by 2020. Although U.S. agriculture only accounts for about 9 percent of the country’s greenhouse gas emissions, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, it makes up a sizeable portion of methane emissions — which is a very potent greenhouse gas.
