Chris Christie pokes fun

Chris Christie has a reputation as a politician who is more willing than most to laugh at himself - and he lived up to that image during a surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live last night. The governor of New Jersey played himself during the ´Weekend Update´ segment of the iconic sketch comedy show, and drew big laughs with his self-deprecating performance. The witty and good-natured act could boost his national profile and help his ambition for a run at the White House in 2016. Christie, notable for his large stature as much as his tough-talking demeanour,

Christie´s biggest danger to America is his lack of understanding of Islam. Whether it is willful, honest or mendacious is impossible to say. What can be said from his public remarks is that he does not understand Islam and seriously underestimates the danger it poses to American institutions.

The charm this man appears to possess for many people has always escaped me. He seems to me nothing but a loud-mouthed, ill-mannered, publicity hound with a serious case of pathological obesity. That anyone would even consider him for higher office is something I cannot understand.

Then high school-itis set in.

Actually, she is backing off. Here’s the thing about her now-famous MSNBC promo: Either she’s saying something radical or she’s saying something so banal that it’s barely even worth saying. The radical interpretation is that she thinks parents should have less say over how their children are raised and that “communities” should have a larger role. The very, very banal interpretation is that she thinks communities should do more to improve children’s lives and that thinking of them as “our children” might help forge that mentality. The money line in the promo that pointed to the radical interpretation

WASHINGTON- Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel says he wants U.S. military law changed so senior commanders can´t overturn courts-martial verdicts in major crimes such as rape. Hagel said the Pentagon´s top lawyers would prepare legislation for Congress that would strip commanders´ power to toss out convictions, "except for certain minor offenses that would not ordinarily warrant trial by court-martial." Convicted defendants still would be able to appeal their cases. But in a move berated by advocacy groups for military sexual-assault victims, Hagel also said he would recommend commanders retain the power to alter courts-martial sentences,

If an election between Ronald Reagan and Barack Obama were held today, 58% would vote for Reagan over Obama, according to a survey of 1,000 Americans age 18 and older conducted by Kelton Research for the National Geographic Channel. Though when the field is narrowed to people ages 18-34 -- those either too young to have known Reagan as president or too young to remember much -- the gap shrinks to 51% in favor of Reagan.

The consultants were opposition researchers, hired by the campaign to ferret out damaging information about actress Ashley Judd, who at one point considered running against McConnell.

Margaret Thatcher had more impact on the world than any woman ruler since Catherine the Great of Russia. Not only did she turn around—decisively—the British economy in the 1980s, she also saw her methods copied in more than 50 countries. "Thatcherism" was the most popular and successful way of running a country in the last quarter of the 20th century and into the 21st. Her origins were humble. Born Oct. 13, 1925, she was the daughter of a grocer in the Lincolnshire town of Grantham. Alfred Roberts was no ordinary shopkeeper.
