Off the Cliff
Power Line, by John Hinderaker

The real fiscal cliff is the nation’s $16 trillion debt, slated to rise to over $20 trillion if President Obama’s budget–for which not a single member of Congress voted–is the de facto blueprint for the next four years. Obama, as far as I can tell, has never once in his life taken responsibility for a problem, let alone solved one. So he doesn’t care about our impending financial collapse, except insofar as he can demagogue it for political advantage. Hence his absurd position, that all he cares about in negotiations with Congress is that upper-income taxpayers–

Maybe this is the only way to get real cuts. This may not be a bad thing for the US. Military cuts would actually be closer to 20%. We would still outspend every other country. We wouldn´t have to purchase the tanks that the military doesn´t want. (but the politicians do)

Everybody knows raising taxes on the rich wont make a dent in the deficit but they back it emotionally out of seeing them punished.

One of Obama´s main fiscal cliff advisers in Trumka who says deficits don´t matter a hill of beans, you have to believe Obama thinks the same way.

Republicans are the bad guys for trying to stop the runaway deficits and are met with scorn for any cuts in social programs, the big money eaters.

I don´t see him worrying over anything that is bad for this country. He can go out laughing, wisecracking, and joking to his friendly audiences after a disaster or bad economic news. And the audiences cheer and laugh along with him.

I would strongly recommend reading "The Real Crash," by Schiff. In it, he says we have already gone over the cliff. The debt has in fact already bankrupted the country. It only seems stabilized because the Federal Reserve keeps pumping fake money into our banking system. When that stops, it´s all going to come crashing down. Very clear description of the sequence of events that will start to occur.

Georgia is about to get the spoils of the train wreck that is the Wendy Davis campaign. Tuesday night, Democratic voters in Texas signaled they would be aborting Davis’s campaign in November. In the Democratic Primary in Texas in 2014, Wendy Davis somehow managed to get fewer votes than any Democratic gubernatorial nominee since 1998. She got fewer votes than the Democrats’ nominee in 2002, 2006, and 2010. Wendy Davis is the only Democratic nominee to lose any Rio Grande Valley counties in twenty years. She received fewer votes there than any Democrat in twenty years despite a 33.47% population growth in

The crowd gathered at the Conservative Political Action Conference rose to its feet as Chris Christie exited stage left. The New Jersey governor, who has been dogged by a scandal stemming from revelations that members of his administration conspired to shut down traffic lanes leading on to the George Washington Bridge, came to CPAC on Thursday in need of a reception like that, and the party faithful delivered. Christie’s remarks were highly anticipated, not only because of the lingering scandal but also because CPAC brass dinged him last year by leaving him off of the guest list. Elián Hernández Palacios, 26; Roberto Israel Muñiz Padroz, 26; and José Ángel Hernández Poblano, 25, face failure to give assistance and bribery charges. According to police, the three men were traveling in a speeding vehicle when they were stopped around 3:45 a.m. at the intersections of Privada Sanders and Ramón Alcázar streets, located in the San Antonio neighborhood, in Downtown Juárez. Solipsism. It’s a fancy word which means that you assume others see the world as you do and will behave as you would. It’s a quality often found in narcissists, people who greatly admire themselves — like a presidential candidate confident that he is a better speechwriter than his speechwriters, knows more about policy than his policy directors and is a better political director than his political director. If that sounds familiar, it´s a paraphrase of what President Obama told top political aide Patrick Gaspard in 2008, according to the New Yorker´s Ryan Lizza. More recently, Obama’s solipsism has been painfully apparent as

WASHINGTON — Contract negotiations are stalled for thousands of workers at casinos on the Strip and in downtown Las Vegas to the point where they may go on strike — and the sticking point is Obamacare. On Feb. 20, thousands of housekeepers, porters, cooks, cocktail servers, and others represented by Nevada’s largest union, the Culinary Union Local 226, voted to end a contract extension the workers agreed to last summer. The union wants to maintain its current benefits — including health care coverage at no cost to workers, pensions, and guaranteed 40-hour workweeks. Rising health care costs due to provisions in the

Little by little, year after year, the three family members were able to make off with millions of dollars of merchandise from well-known retailers such as Barnes & Noble and Toys R Us, fencing the thousands of items

A businessman who lost $500,000 on table games at a Las Vegas casino on Super Bowl weekend is arguing that he shouldn´t have to pay because he was blackout drunk. Southern California gambler Mark Johnston, 52, is suing the Downtown Grand for loaning him money and serving him drinks when he was visibly intoxicated. Nevada law bars casinos from allowing obviously drunk patrons to gamble and from serving them comped drinks. Johnston´s attorney, Sean Lyttle, says the Grand, which opened last November in the old part of Las Vegas, intends to pursue Johnston for trying to shirk his gambling debts. Johnston put a

Texas, the nation´s second largest state, held the nation´s first primary yesterday. There were no great surprises in the results: the two governor candidates, Republican Greg Abbott and Democrat Wendy Davis, had no serious opposition, and Republican Sen. John Cornyn and Rep. That means that primary turnout gives some indication of the balance between the parties. At Chipotle, guacamole costs extra - but it soon may not be available at all thanks to climate change. The Denver, Colorado-based chain of Mexican fast-food restaurants threatened to take the condiment off the menu because of the rising price of avocados. While the avocado crop is currently fine, scientists at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory are predicting drier temperatures will lead to a 40 per cent drop in California´s avocado crop over the next 32 years. Most modern scientists agree that there is a direct correlation between the increase of droughts and global warming, according to Think Progress.

Where Lois Lerner goes, drama follows. On Wednesday, the former IRS officer again invoked the Fifth before the House Oversight Committee. That precipitated a heated exchange between the committee’s Republican chairman, Darrell Issa, and Democratic ranking member Elijah Cummings, who called the hearings “un-American.” And that spat has become the story. No doubt that is exactly what Cummings had in mind. Because it distracts attention from the substance of the hearings — and from the questions raised by e-mails and public remarks Lois Lerner wrote, received or made when she was IRS Director of Tax Exempt Organizations. But Democrats are embarking on a broad effort that aims to unmask the press-shy siblings and portray them, instead, as a pair of villains bent on wrecking progressive politics.
