The White House pushed back Saturday on suggestions that it scrubbed terrorist involvement from original CIA talking points on the fatal Libya attacks. The remark by White House Deputy National Security Adviser Ben Rhodes followed former CIA Director David Petraeus telling House and Senate intelligence committees Friday that the agency’s original talking points suggested the Sept. 11 attack involved Al Qaeda affiliates and sympathizers -- including Al Qaeda’s North Africa affiliate and a Libyan group Ansar al-Shariah. "The only edit that was made by the White House and also by the State Department was to change the word ´consulate´
It´s very frustrating when the people who know who edited the talking points will lie with impunity. They believe the ends justify the means, therefore, they say whatever needs to be said in order to achieve the desired results. I feel like giving up. How can you have a meaningful inquiry into what actually happened with people who lie and cheat?
For them to go after the UN ambassador who had nothing to do with Benghazi, and was simply making a presentation based on intelligence that she had received, and to besmirch her reputation is outrageous," Obama said.
Since she had nothing to do with Benghazi, was appearing at the behest of the WH and was making a presentation on intelligence she received (from the WH) ... what and I to think?
"That’s what our job is.... I can tell you that immediately upon finding out that our folks were in danger, that my orders to my National Security team were do whatever we need to do to make sure they’re safe." (President 0bama - 11/14/12).
This is what 0bama said at his ´´news conference.´´ It makes it clear to me that some, if not all the men were known to be alive [since the audio/video links were activated by various agencies]. One can only draw the conclusion that 0bama knew as events were taking place on 9/11.
It was a known terrorist attack from the moment it started till it sadly ended with our government, from the top on down, allowing for the murder of their "assets" in Benghazi. You´ll never scrub the blood off your hands.
I think Tom Donilon had a hand in its alteration to protect the Obama campaign. It as been his responsibility to keep any eruptions tamped down and under control.
See this New York Timea article from September 23, 2012, on that very subject:
A Manager of Overseas Crises, as Much as the World Permits By PETER BAKER
Mr. Donilon is the one who wakes the president when an ambassador is killed in Libya, the one who tries to keep Israel from rupturing relations and Egypt from heading off track. Solutions to intractable problems like Iran’s nuclear program are for another day. For now, it is Mr. Donilon’s mission to manage problems and keep them from blowing up, so Mr. Obama can focus on Mitt Romney rather than Benjamin Netanyahu
The WH first claims its because of video, is caught lying and changes its story, then that they didn´t know anything about the CIA talking points, is caught lying when the CIA says they were forwarded to them, then that they did not edit anything, and is caught lying and says they only changed a word. Really? I do think WH credibility has suffered a little here, and I think they are lying.
The incompetence and corruption of the entire Obama administration is appalling, almost bordering on criminal, if it is not already considering Benghazi. America can not endure four more years of this. All these people are out of their league, over their heads and not anywhere near performing close to their current pay grades. Somethings got to give.
Uh oh. This sounds ominous. Just in case there is anyone left whose attention isn´t focused on Susan Rice after Obama shined all the spotlights on her in his news conference, in answer to the question "who doctored the talking points," the White House just had everyone take one step backward. Everyone, that is, except Rice. She´s now standing front and center all alone. I hope she has hired counsel.
When you´re sitting at the poker table and can´t figure out who the mark is, it´s you, Sue.
Why is everyone getting upset over the "talking points?" They really don´t matter. Days after the killings, when they were certain that it was a terrorist attack, the President was still talking about the video! All this Susan Rice stuff is diverting attention from the fact that the President himself lied to us.
There has been much speculation that Susan Rice´s script came from Axelrod, who throughout the campaign was Obama´s primary spokesman on any and all sensitive issues, including Benghazi. The House Committees should quickly subpoena Axelrod and get him under oath -- as head of the campaign organization, Axelrod was and is a private citizen and thus outside of any executive or other governmental privileges Obama/Holder may try to assert to shield Axelrod.
Sometimes an ancient artifact symbolizes more than its admirers necessarily imagine. Take for example the silver griffin that was returned by the United States to Iran as a gesture of respect and—at least according to tea-leaf readers—a sign of an emerging thaw between the two nations. There’s only one problem: It’s a fake. Not only is it a fake, it’s a bad fake. The saga of the griffin, from its production to its much-touted return to Iranian President Rouhani during his recent visit to New York, demonstrates how fakers of ancient art fool the gullible wealthy with the connivance of museums
Ranchers in South Dakota fear they may lose everything after a freak storm dumped up four feet of snow in parts of the state last week, killing as many as 100,000 cattle.Matt Kammerer, a 45-year-old rancher whose family has operated in South Dakota’s Meade County since 1882, told FoxNews.com that he lost 60 cattle in the storm, or one-third of his entire herd." ... It’s just dead cow after dead cow, where they’ve gotten caught in dams, streams, fences, you name it. They’re dead everywhere."
On Saturday, the barricades at Utah’s Natural Bridges National Monument will disappear, allowing visitors to return to the tourist draw despite the government shutdown. They will also come down at Colorado’s Rocky Mountain National Park, Arizona’s Grand Canyon and New York’s Statue of Liberty. What began as a sort of modern Sagebrush Rebellion — with Utah county commissioners threatening to bring in a posse and dismantle federal barricades themselves — has become an intense negotiation between Interior Secretary Sally Jewell and governors across the country, who are eager to reopen public lands that generate valuable tourism revenue.
The federal agent who blew the whistle on the Fast and Furious scandal is suddenly unwelcome at the very Border Patrol agency he sought to protect. For months, John Dodson, a special agent at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, has been his agency’s liaison to U.S. Customs and Border Protection in a local office in Arizona. He also had been widely saluted by border agents and their families for first revealing that weapons that ATF knowingly allowed to cross into Mexico were showing up at murder scenes on both sides of the border. One of those scenes was the December
Rep. Bill Huizenga (R., Mich.) sent a letter to the National Park Service (NPS) on Wednesday demanding answers to the agency’s “dubious” handling of the government shutdown.Ninety-three additional members of Congress have signed onto the letter sent to NPS Director Jonathan B. Jarvis questioning if politics is involved in the closings of the World War II Memorial, privately owned parks, and other sites across the nation.“The National Park Service continues to act in an arbitrary and punitive manner to exclude veterans from memorials built in their honor and the American people from many of our country’s national treasures,” said Huizenga
After several months making frequent appearances on Fox News, pediatric neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson has officially joined the network as a contributor. He will provide analysis and commentary across Fox’s daytime and primetime programming.Carson rose to cable news prominence earlier this year when he spoke out against Obamacare, political correctness, and the accumulation of federal debt while standing several feet away from President Obama at the National Prayer Breakfast. That moment and his controversial comments regarding gay marriage garnered him a slew of cable news appearances, from CNN to MSNBC to (most frequently) Fox.In making the announcement, Fox chief Roger
Call it poker, call it brinkmanship, call it a game of chicken, choose whatever analogy you like to describe the US government "shutdown showdown", but it all comes down to the same thing – right now Washington is engaged in a huge game of high-stakes brag. Underlying that game – and the relative sanguinity of the stock markets – is the assumption that there are limits to this particular arms race (sorry, that´s another over-used analogy) and that neither side will, to quote Warren Buffett last week, go "nuclear". The consequences of default, everyone agrees, are simply too awful to
Over the first four days the new online health insurance exchanges were open last week, more than 8 million people visited them, according to the Obama administration. At the very least, this casts doubt on the Republican claim that Americans hate Obamacare and want it repealed. It seems millions of people desperately want the coverage the law will allow them to get, regardless of their medical histories. Alas, the administration managed to turn the experience for most of those visitors into a nightmare. Websites crashed, refused to load, or offered bizarre and incomprehensible choices. Even though the system was shut down
WASHINGTON — A nervous China warned Washington Monday to stop messing around. As stocks slumped on Wall Street and around the world, China called for quick action by Washington to avoid what would be a calamitous default on U.S. government debt.It was China’s first public comment on the looming Oct. 17 deadline for President Obama and Congress to increase the nation’s borrowing capacity.
Days after the launch of the federal government´s Obamacare website, millions of Americans looking for information on new health insurance plans were still locked out of the system even though its designers scrambled to add capacity.Government officials blame the persistent glitches on an overwhelming crush of users - 8.6 million unique visitors by Friday - trying to visit the HealthCare.gov website this week. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, which oversaw development of the site, declined to make any of its IT experts available for interviews. CGI Group Inc, the Canadian contractor that built HealthCare.gov, is "declining to comment
NEW YORK — The longtime secretary of imprisoned financier Bernard Madoff and four other back-office subordinates of the Ponzi king go to trial Tuesday as the government for the first time shows a jury what it has collected in its five-year probe of one of history´s biggest frauds. The trial in federal court in Manhattan is expected to last up to five months and feature the unveiling of the government´s prize witness — Frank DiPascali, Madoff´s former finance chief. The government is counting on him to explain to jurors the roles each defendant played in a fraud that prosecutors say stretched back
On Sunday, The New York Times’ Maureen Dowd wrote perhaps the most absurd column ever to appear in the pages of that illustrious newspaper. The piece, titled, “Welcome to Ted Cruz’s Thunderdome,” links together bizarre dystopian movie references, pathetically unfunny names for politicians, and likely a solid amount of alcohol consumption on the part of the author: The year is 2084, in the capital of the land formerly called North America. The peeling columns of the Lincoln Memorial, and Abe’s majestic head, elegant hands and big feet are partially submerged in sludge. Animals that escaped from the National Zoo after zookeepers
Megyn Kelly blew out Rachel Maddow in the key demo on Tuesday after losing to her the night before. "I have never seen it in all my years of cable," says Phil Griffin.Phil Griffin, president of MSNBC, says there's something fishy about Tuesday's ratings for the Fox News Channel, which were up significantly from a day earlier when Fox News debuted its new schedule. And he wants an investigation."Monday we had a really good day in the key demographic. On the night that Fox News debuted their three shows, we either tied or beat them in those hours," Griffin said at a briefing, according to TVNewser
The federal government has spent $634million on the Obamacare website--more than it cost to build Facebook or Twitter, it was revealed today. Despite the massive bill to taxpayers, the Healthcare.gov still doesn´t work properly ten days after it was launched - allowing only a handful of Americans to sign up for plans on the insurance exchange market. And experts warn that the site is likely to continue to experience significant glitches for months to come as engineers work out the bugs they failed to to spot before the site went live on October 1. The price tag for the broken
On Friday, after blaming conservatives like Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) for the Obama administration´s mishandling of military death benefits, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) said Cruz simply did not represent the GOP. Fox News host Martha MacCallum mentioned that Cruz would be visiting President Barack Obama along with other Republican senators like Rand Paul (R-KY), Mike Lee (R-UT), and Marco Rubio (R-FL) at the White House on Friday. She asked McCain, "How do you feel about him representing you there?" In response, McCain smirked before saying, "First of of all, Martha, please, he´s not representing us there." Also in the interview,
Jen Senko is a filmmaker who watched in horror as her father slowly came to believe the extreme right-wing lies of Rush Limbaugh and other conservative media mavens. Now she’s making a documentary about it calledThe Brainwashing of My Dad. Senko’s first documentary, Road Map Warrior Women, won recognition with several festival awards. Her most recent film, The Vanishing City, co-directed with Fiore DeRosa, exposes the economic policies that have made New York a city for the rich. The Vanishing City won Best Feature Documentary in the Williamsburg International Film Festival, Best Short Documentary in the Harlem International Film Festival, and
President Obama’s meeting with certain House Republicans, Carney said, would not be a negotiation: “he’s not going to pay ransom to the Tea Party so that the government opens or the government doesn’t default.” Carney blamed divisions among Republicans for the government shutdown, particularly blaming the Tea Party: “The President invited all members of Congress because he believes all of them shoulder the responsibilities…When it comes specifically to the House of Representatives and the House Republican conference, I think the president extended the invitation to all members because we have seen that it is a very diverse and fractious conference…a subsection
Throw the bums out. That’s the message 60 percent of Americans are sending to Washington in a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, saying if they had the chance to vote to defeat and replace every single member of Congress, including their own representative, they would. Just 35 percent say they would not.(snip) The 60 percent figure is the highest-ever in that question recorded in the poll, registered in the wake of the government shutdown and threat of the U.S. defaulting on its debt for the first time in history.
I pointed out the other day that President Obama has unquestionably been hurt by the government shutdown, but Republicans have been hurt more. How bad is it for the GOP? The most recent Gallup poll shows the GOP is viewed favorably by 28 percent of Americans–down 10 points since September and the lowest number for either party since Gallup began asking the question in 1992. “The Republican Party is clearly taking a bigger political hit from Americans thus far in the unfolding saga,” according to the Gallup analysis. Then there’s a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, which (as Rod Dreher helpfully summarizes)
On health care, the president´s pile of broken promises keeps getting higher. Consider this gem from Aug. 20, 2009: “Let´s be clear about the fact that nobody has proposed anything close to a government takeover of health care.” Well, yes, somebody did. President Obama is now well on his way to orchestrating the federal government´s takeover of Americans´ health care. Commandeering the resources of major federal departments, particularly the Department of Health and Human Services and the IRS, the administration and its allies in Congress have created numerous federal bureaus, commissions and programs and have issued thousands of pages of rules, regulations,
The United States Postal Service (USPS) has destroyed an entire press run of a stamp series over safety concerns about the images on three out of the 15 stamps in the series. The stamps, which were aimed at getting children to be more active, featured kids cannonballing into a pool, skateboarding without kneepads, and performing a headstand without a helmet. Postalnews, a blog run by Brian Sheehan, a retired postal employee from Massachusetts, reports that USPS Chief Marketing and Sales Officer Nagisa Manabe asked First Lady Michelle Obama to take part in a first day ceremony for the stamps. Upon
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- From county chairmen to national party luminaries, veteran Republicans across the country are accusing tea party lawmakers of staining the GOP with their refusal to bend in the budget impasse in Washington. The Republican establishment also is signaling a willingness to strike back at the tea party in next fall´s elections. "It´s time for someone to act like a grown-up in this process," former New Hampshire Gov. John Sununu argues, faulting Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and tea party Republicans in the House as much as President Barack Obama for taking an uncompromising stance. Former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour
Best-selling conservative author Ann Coulter, who has used her nine books to launch vicious attacks on Democrats, is turning her guns on Republicans in a new book out Monday, calling Florida Sen. Marco Rubio a hypocrite, urging donors freeze contributions to the GOP, and demanding that only governors or senators run for the party’s presidential nomination. Her point in “Never Trust a Liberal Over 3 -- Especially a Republican” is to shake the party out of its doldrums in time for the 2014 and 2016 elections. “Elections matter. We’re trying to make the country a better place. But if our candidates don’t
Police officers in Los Angeles have long faced accusations of institutional racism, but now it appears their dogs may be unjustly discriminatory, too. A new report focusing on the Canine Special Detail of the LA Sherriff’s Department (LASD) has uncovered a vast increase in the number of minority individuals bitten by police dogs since 2004. And in the first six months of this year, every single victim of a bite by a LASD dog was African-American or Latino. The data was published in a new report by the Police Assessment Resource Centre (Parc), a Los Angeles-based non-profit organisation, devoted to “advancing effective
