David Petraeus´s Life Crisis
Daily Beast, by Daniel Klaidman and Gail Sheehy

Original Article

Posted By:FlyRight, 11/17/2012 1:04:59 PM

From all appearances, David Petraeus was in his element. It was the evening of Wednesday, Nov. 7, and the CIA director was the keynote speaker at a high-minded foreign-policy conference in Washington held by the World Affairs Councils of America. The audience of roughly 250 people crowded into a ballroom to hear what was billed as an off-the-record conversation with the legendary general–turned–spy chief.

They have to keep writing nothing stories like this so that people will stop reading them. Then, because of the Benghazi angle, they´ll stop reading anything associated.

Already I´m seeing the Democrat thralls claim this story is made up by "Faux News". They´re really ridiculous. But they wield a lot of power and that´s scary as heck.

I don´t know Klaidman, but this is a typical Gail Sheehy piece. I didn´t know she was still around. It has been very awkwardly edited, with large chunks obviously edited out, probably for brevity. Poorly done.

Some of it is interesting, but it is the side story. Perhaps an attempt to justify his hooking up with Broadwell in earnest after his transition to the cold CIA? A speculative side story.

I am glad that the affair caused Broadwell to email Jill Kelley, who began the unravelling of the story that led Petraeus to be free of the CIA and to hopefully tell us the truth about Benghazi.

History unfolds in sometimes strange ways.

The best part of this long story is the section where Obie parked his troublesome hero general (and possible rival for president in 2012) in a position where he required him to resign from the military, don a civilian suit, and be buried alive in the most socked-in organization in the government. Everything about Petraeus - or any real general - was wrong for this job. Obie didn´t care. He wanted Petraeus moved down the hall and around the corner, out of the way. Neutered and politically isolated.

And to pour salt on it, Obie had Brennan maintain the WH´s primary contact with and control over the CIA based upon his prior relationship with it.

This Machiavellian plan may yet come back to bite Obie. Petraeus may have been duped into taking the CIA job, but he is not a fool.

Sounds to me like perhaps some of these girly men were just intimidated. They didn´t like him working out while being briefed? This whole article is another hit piece ordered by the White House.

After he´s been debriefed/interrogated on everything he knows about Benghazi, preferably in a dark room under a harsh spotlight while he´s sitting on a hardback chair, Petey needs to do the right thing and go away and never be heard from again.

Former Reagan and Bush administration official Elliott Abrams argued the United States should not fear any retaliation that results from sanctions against Russia Friday on Fox News. The White House, according to Abrams, appears “scared” of the Russian president and his ability to inflict damage on American geopolitical and economic interests.Ironically, the former diplomat added the State Department seems to be less skittish than the rest of President Obama’s foreign policy team. U.S. economic interests in Russia, Abrams said, are relatively small and are confined to a few firms, reducing the likelihood Russian penalties against American companies would have any effect on

From the time Attkisson started covering topics critical of the Obama administration, like Benghazi and the government’s "Fast and Furious" gun walking program, her face time on the network dropped off.I hid my beliefs in the name of the news gods.Based on these

Back in September, John Kerry told Washington Democrats that America faced a “Munich moment” in deciding how to respond to Syria’s use of chemical weapons. The real Munich moment of our times is taking place in Ukraine.Vladimir Putin is on the march, and there’s no telling how far he’ll go if he’s allowed to gobble up Crimea without paying a serious price. A 6,850-square-foot sponsor unit, it was the most expensive sale of the week, according to city records. The listing price for the condominium, on the southeast side of Madison Square Park at East 22nd Street, had been $50 million. But Mr. Murdoch preferred to buy it as raw space, in so-called white-box form, to orchestrate the finishing touches with his handpicked design team; hence the discount. Plane crashes are always political. That principle is on full view in the discordant mystery of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, which grew even murkier on Thursday, with reports that the plane may have flown for four hours after contact was lost. That information was attributed to Obama Administration officials, who offered it to explain why American military assets might be deployed to a new body of water. The search has hopped from the Gulf of Thailand, crossing the breadth of the Malaysian peninsula to the Strait of Malacca, and now to the Indian Ocean. Malaysian authorities had denied a similar

When it comes to Obamacare, many Democrats take comfort in polls showing a small majority of voters, or at least a plurality, oppose repealing the Affordable Care Act. To them, that proves the Republicans´ do-away-with-it position is out of sync with voters as this November´s midterm elections approach. The argument shows how far Democrats have retreated from the heady days when they rammed Obamacare through Congress over unanimous GOP opposition. Democrats can´t argue that most people actually like the new law, and indeed many Democratic candidates have adopted a new mantra that it needs to be "fixed." But at least voters

And hours before the doomed flight left Kuala Lumpur it is understood 53-year-old Shah attended a controversial trial in which Ibrahim was jailed for five years. Campaigners say the politician, the key challenger to Malaysia’s ruling party, was the victim of a long-running smear campaign and had faced trumped-up charges. By now it’s settled on most people, including Democrats, that the loss of Alex Sink to David Jolly in Florida’s 13th Congressional District was, in the words of the New York Times, “devastating” to Democrats. It’s a district Ms. Sink carried in her unsuccessful race for governor against Rick Scott, a district that Barack Obama carried in his two elections, and a district that demographically now favors Democrats. In addition, Ms. Sink raised more money and ran a better campaign than Jolly. Even Bill Clinton lent his efforts to her campaign. And yet she lost. What should particularly alarm Democrats is

Last week, the U.S. Tenth Circuit decided a case that should reverberate on Capitol Hill. In Kerr v. The three-judge panel — consisting of Carter and Clinton appointees — ruled in favor of the legislators’ standing. This decision should embolden members of Congress who correctly believe that President Obama has encroached upon Congress’ constitutional authority. Indeed, Congress should do no less in defending its authority than the five Colorado state legislators.
