WASHINGTON — An Obama administration official says a Tampa Bay socialite whose emails triggered the eventual downfall of CIA director David Petraeus visited the White House three times this year with her sister, twice eating in the Executive Mansion mess. The official says that Jill Kelley, who initiated an investigation that ultimately unveiled Petraeus’ extramarital affair, and her sister had two “courtesy” meals at the White House mess as guests of a mid-level White House aide. Kelley and her family also received a White House tour. The visits occurred during the past three months. The official spoke on condition of anonymity Headline split by staff.

There is no story here. Keep on the scandal.
Example: A close friend has visited the White House 4 times in last 12 months. None of the visits involved meeting anybody having anything to do with politics, government or policy.
She is apolitical and works for Pentagon. It is not uncommon for people like her who are related to government service to get invites to things like "WH Twilight Garden Tour", Bowling at WH. The invites have usually been considered a nice perk and reward. They are wholly inocuous, involve othing other than a semi exclusive tour or pass to a public space (like the mess.)

This entire story is remindfull of the social reality in Singapore, that bastion of Brit social strata, pre-WW2.
All incoming Brit officers were vetted for social acceptability by women of a certain standing. Those judged ill-suited were run off, leaving the military with a surplus of socially acceptable officer-twits when the Japanese attacked. That is how the under-manned Japanese were able to beat the Brits in short order, even though the Brits had East Indian and Australian troops available, troops that always gave a good account of themselves with any kind of leadership.
Is Pretaeus our General "Rabbit" Percival? Must we get our butts kicked like the Brits did, before Russia and America bailed them out?

The Mess is not a "public place". It is a formal (white linen/WH china) dining room that you can only go to with higher level people at the WH. The Mess name comes from the fact that it is run by the Navy. It is in the West Wing.

Excuse me. My use of Mess and Public Place in a sentence did not mean to imply the public can walk in nor that lacks a great deal of cachet amongst the hoi polloi. It was meant to state that it is not likely to be chosen as a spot for a nefarious or secret rendezvous. The crux of the whe headline and buzz is misleading in that it implies the sisters had some sort of extremely high level entree that could, in turn, imply there is something to this baloney. There is a real scandal and this is a side show.

Read the entire article. This hussy is not your average White House tourist. She brags in e-mails to reporters about her friends in the Administration. She brags about being appointed to this and that. Her special positions ,if you will. Here´s the most telling part. She squealed her delight that Barry was re-elected. No one who respects the military and all the sacrifices the members have made, including the ultimate sacrifice , could be happy that Barry will have another four years in which he can further degrade and destroy our military. I think she is Tampa Rose.

Tampa Rose is right. This woman was not a Tampa socialite until someone in the state dept. bestowed honors to her, which also enabled her to enter the base. The fact that she volunteered to insert herself in the 2 Koran controversies in FL, the preacher who wanted to burn one & a radio host who wanted to fry one.... is also telling.
This Lebanese woman is working with the WH & the state dept. gave her the credentials to worm her way in. I suspect Broadwell discovered the Kelly mission & the threatening emails had to do with her spy mission, not jealousy.

The Justice Department is taking the first steps toward carrying out President Obama’s executive actions on gun control. Attorney General Eric Holder on Friday released three proposals to strengthen the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), which was one of the 23 actions ordered by Obama last week to tackle gun violence. The proposed regulations would give local law-enforcement agencies access to the gun-sale database that is maintained by the FBI. The rules would also preserve records of denied weapons sales indefinitely. The Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act already requires federal background checks for gun purchases, but not every firearm

It’s a popular talking point with conservatives that the purpose of the Second Amendment is to act as a check on a tyrannical government, our own government. According to liberal radio and TV host Thom Hartman, though, the original purpose of the amendment was to act as a check on rebellious slaves, which might just put a kink in Gun Appreciation Day founder Larry Ward‘s theory about Martin Luther King. On Hartmann’s The Big Picture with Thom Hartmann, Hartmann laid it out. “Gun-crazy America is arming up,” he said. ”While Vice President Biden and his gun task force think of

Faced with increasingly stringent benchmarks—the government´s new Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards require a passenger vehicle fleet that averages 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025—carmakers are taking another approach to achieving better fuel mileage: shaving weight off vehicles by experimenting with lighter materials. Automobiles have long been made from steel—a very strong, but heavy material. Now manufacturers are experimenting with new materials—ranging from aluminum to carbon fiber composites to metal alloys—to help companies reach the ambitious fuel efficiency standards. Author and economist Walter Williams told The Daily Caller that the purpose of the Second Amendment is to protect Americans from their own government — not simply to ensure hunting rights. Williams, a syndicated columnist and the John M. Olin Distinguished Professor of Economics at George Mason University, suggested that common misconceptions about the Second Amendment undermine the gun control debate. “[The Founding Fathers´] stated reason was to allow the American people to protect themselves from the United States Congress — that is, government.

Texas Republican Rep. Steve Stockman threatened Monday afternoon that he would file articles of impeachment against President Barack Obama if he institutes gun control measures with an executive order. Stockman warned that such executive orders would be “unconstitutional” and “infringe on our constitutionally-protected right to keep and bear arms.” “I will seek to thwart this action by any means necessary, including but not limited to eliminating funding for implementation, defunding the White House, and even filing articles of impeachment,” Stockman said in a statement.

Many of the responses I’ve gotten to my article on the Republican plan to use the debt ceiling as leverage to force Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to pass a budget have been along these lines: If it is against the law for Congress not to pass a budget (and it is), and if Harry Reid is violating that law (and he is), then why can’t something be done about it? Why can’t Reid be charged with something? Or perhaps a lawsuit be brought? The answer is the law requiring Congress to pass an annual budget, the Congressional Budget Act

Hagel, whose appointment would give Obama´s reshuffled second-term Cabinet a bipartisan cast, met the Democratic president at the White House this week to discuss a post on his national security team.

They´re starting to grow out, get a little irritating.´ Still, she hasn´t let her hairdo woes get her down. ´It´s okay,´ she said after her initial complaint. ´We´ll be good.´ The first indication that her hairstyle was becoming a burden came about last weekend, when Malia, 14, was spotted adjusting her mother´s hair during the White House Easter Egg Roll.

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

Put out an all-points bulletin: Millions of Americans have gone missing from the workforce. Every month that those would-be workers are gone raises the odds that they might never come back, dimming the prospects for future economic growth. The vanishing trend is more than a decade old, but it accelerated during the Great Recession. Throughout 2012, economists held out hope that it had stopped. But then came Friday’s jobs report, and hopes were dashed. The Labor Department reported that the U.S. labor force — everyone who has a job or is looking for one — shrank

Gluten-free diets are all the rage, but they can be dangerous if not done right. What is gluten? It´s the spongy complex of proteins, found naturally in wheat, rye, and barley, that gives elasticity to dough and allows it to rise. When flour is moistened and either kneaded or mixed into dough, gluten molecules form an elastic, microscopic latticework that traps the carbon dioxide produced when yeast ferments, causing dough to inflate like a hot air balloon. Baking hardens the gluten, which helps the finished product keep its shape. Wheat — and gluten — is ubiquitous in the American diet.

Newtown killer Adam Lanza may have launched his murder spree at Sandy Hook Elementary School as an “act of revenge,” the Daily News has learned. A close friend of Lanza’s mother told The News that the troubled boy was a target of relentless bullying when he attended the Connecticut school years ago. “I think Adam felt betrayed by the school and this was his act of revenge,” said Marvin LaFontaine, a friend of Nancy Lanza’s. “Nancy told me he was being picked on at school. That they were just torturing him.” Source and text corrected by Staff.
