Branstad: Iowa will work towards
state health insurance exchange, but
questions remain

Des Moines Register, by William Petroski

Original Article

Gov. Terry Branstad today informed federal officials that Iowa will continue working to create a state-based health insurance exchange, but he said many questions are unanswered for state officials to make an informed decision (SNIP) “... I cannot provide you with a set of timelines or complete details about the exchange until our state receives clear, binding rules from your department. Forcing an exchange decision on states based on an arbitrary timetable, would be like forcing a consumer to buy a car without knowing the vehicle’s price tag or fuel economy."

Let me spoil the end for everyone. In the end, all Republican gov´s will bend over and do like Daddy Obama says. Huff and puff will turn into yes sir, sorry conservatives I had no choice. Then they´ll all gather in NJ and lead a big cheer with top cheerleader Chris Krispy Kreme for Obama.

I had always thought of Iowans as hardy, independent people.
Back in the early 90´s, I drove through Des Moines....great town. Everywhere I looked there were farmers......I thought "Cool, they all come to the City, and enjoy what it has to offer...."
Then I found out that each and every one was there to get Government help in filling out their tax returns.

And now this?

What happened to Iowa?

Raising the debt ceiling doesn´t increase the nation´s debt, Pres. Obama declared in a speech today. In a speech at the Business Roundtable headquarters in Washington, D.C., Obama dismissed concerns about raising the debt ceiling by noting that it´d been done so many times in the past: "Now, this debt ceiling -- I just want to remind people in case you haven´t been keeping up -- raising the debt ceiling, which has been done over a hundred times, does not increase our debt; it does not somehow promote profligacy.

Global temperatures are warmer than at any time in at least 4,000 years, scientists reported Thursday, and over the coming decades are likely to surpass levels not seen on the planet since before the last ice age. Previous research had extended back roughly 1,500 years, and suggested that the rapid temperature spike of the past century, believed to be a consequence of human activity, exceeded any warming episode during those years.

CAIRO -- Islamists approved a draft constitution for Egypt early Friday without the participation of liberal and Christian members, seeking to pre-empt a court ruling that could dissolve their panel with a rushed, marathon vote that further inflames the conflict between the opposition and President Mohammed Morsi. The vote by the constituent assembly advanced a charter with an Islamist bent that rights experts say could give Muslim clerics oversight over legislation and bring restrictions on freedom of speech,

Via America Rising and the IJR, is this the key that finally unlocks the enigma of Harry Reid, tinpot demagogue? Maybe, from moment to moment, this guy just … doesn’t realize what’s coming out of his mouth. Hard to believe he could forget saying on the Senate floor that all ObamaCare horror stories — all of them — are a GOP/Koch brothers fairy tale designed to besmirch the stellar reputation of the Affordable Care Act. Those remarks got heavy coverage in conservative media, and even got picked up at WaPo. You don’t toss a grenade that powerful without choosing your

As part of its plan to reduce U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, the Obama administration is targeting the dairy industry to reduce methane emissions in their operations. This comes despite falling methane emission levels across the economy since 1990. The White House has proposed cutting methane emissions from the dairy industry by 25 percent by 2020. Although U.S. agriculture only accounts for about 9 percent of the country’s greenhouse gas emissions, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, it makes up a sizeable portion of methane emissions — which is a very potent greenhouse gas. Some of these methane emissions come from

Brooks’ office: Dear Congressman Brooks, As a practicing family physician, I plead for help against what I can best characterize as Washington’s war against doctors. U.S. President Barack Obama and Pope Francis met Thursday for the first time at Vatican City, offering a chance for a reset of sorts between the administration and Catholic leadership following years of strained relations. The two world leaders greeted each other with a smile and a handshake, and posed for pictures before sitting down across a table from each other. The goal of the meeting: Focus on areas where two of the world´s most influential men agree and gently tread ground where they differ. The President and the Pontiff will, as the White House said in a statement, focus on "shared commitment

All 17 Democrats on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee have called on Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) to end the “partisan” investigation into the Benghazi attack “and begin focusing instead on conducting responsible oversight to implement constructive reforms.” The Dems, led by ranking member Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), charged that the probe “has been characterized by wild and unsubstantiated political accusations that turn out to be completely inaccurate.” They proceeded to outline those instances in the five-page letter. “Continuing this reckless pattern of launching wholly unfounded accusations on national television — and racking up more and more Pinocchios in the process —

When Jorge Mario Bergoglio became Pope Francis a little more than a year ago, the first thing that struck those who knew him well was his unexpected, beatific smile. “In Argentina, he didn’t smile like that,” Sergio Rubin, the pope’s biographer, said this week at a conference sponsored by the Ethics and Public Policy Center. “That was the big surprise.” Since then, the pope has mostly kept on smiling — in homilies, in audiences, in meetings with the homeless and the poor. If you look at the pictures from Francis’ meeting with President Obama on Thursday, though, the smile is there only some of the time.

More than six million Americans have now signed up for private insurance under the Affordable Care Act, according to the White House, with just four days to go until the end of its first open enrollment period. While traveling in Italy on Thursday, President Obama shared the news in a conference call with thousands of health-care navigators and volunteers helping enroll people on state and federal marketplaces. As the volume of consumers seeking health plans has surged -- there were over 1.5 million visits to HealthCare.gov Wednesday and more than 430,000 calls to the marketplaces´ call centers -- Obama urged those on

Their target is the GOP, but they are not angry liberals bent on destroying it. They are reform-minded Republican leaders intent on strengthening it. These Republicans are applying conservative principles to 21st-century challenges, focused on middle-class concerns like lowering costs and improving access to college, modernizing health care and reforming the tax code. They aim to broaden prosperity´s reach through markets and merit, not government and corporate cronyism. They´re also concentrating on helping the poor by changing Washington´s dizzying assortment of antipoverty programs to emphasize work and make the safety net more effective and sustainable. One is a world leader who has been praised for his humility and outlook on the world. The other is an American president, once the international superstar of the political stage. So it is no surprise that President Barack Obama has travelled to the Vatican in Rome possibly to get some tips from the popular Pope Francis who now even has own weekly glossy magazine dedicated to him. As he sat down with the Pontiff at the Vatican this morning, Obama called himself a ´great admirer´ of the pope. Their historic first meeting comes as Obama´s administration and the church

Usually the type of Republicans MSNBC hosts invite on their shows are either craven RINO types who can be depended upon to trash talk fellow Republicans, or the more inarticulate, dimmer bulbs in the party who fail to communicate conservative positions effectively. MSNBC host Chris Hayes had an entirely different type of animal on his hands with PA Americans For Prosperity Director, Jennifer Stefano. In fact, he´s probably still licking his wounds after the nasty confrontation he had with her, Wednesday night in a debate over the latest ObamaCare delay. He got off on the wrong foot by introducing Stefano

She certainly knows how to draw attention to herself. Newby said that’s not all. She also expressed her hatred of Christians in a tweet calling conservative Christians "******bags," claiming they are "really trying" her patience.

President Obama marveled at the sheer size of the Colosseum during a private sightseeing tour Thursday night in Rome. "This is bigger than some current baseball stadiums," Obama told reporters, noting the size exceeded Wrigley Field in his hometown of Chicago. "I have to check on what it seats. It´s remarkable. Unbelievable." The amphitheatre, located in central Rome, was constructed between 70 and 80 A.D., and was estimated to hold between 50,000 and 80,000 spectators. The Colosseum was home to gladiator battles and animal hunts during the Roman Empire. Obama walked along a platform running through the center of the
