Ohio was crucial politically for Lincoln, too

| CINCINNATI- Long before Mitt Romney and Barack Obama wrestled over Ohio, it was also a crucial political battleground state for Abraham Lincoln. So much so that when he received word of the results of the state´s 1863 elections, Lincoln said in a message: "Ohio has saved the Nation." "Ohio was almost a civil war unto itself," said historian William B. Styple, whose latest book focuses on a Cincinnati politician who was an influential aide to Union Gen. George B. McClellan, who ran against Lincoln in 1864. "There was a lot of turmoil in that state."

Apparently the compliant press has a new assignment, namely to create the image that Barack Obama and Lincoln have equivalent stature.

Let´s see they both both married harridans, both divided the country, both shredded the constitution, both apparently not above sleeping with a man, both happy to send better men into battle to die for their causes. Yeah kinda works for me.

When you see how the traditional "Union" states have evolved into big government socialists, one really has to ponder that the Confederate states might have been on to something good.

McCain actually got more votes in OHIO than Romeny did. Romney just could not get white voters to the polls. They stayed home rather than vote for either candidate.

DING! DING! DING! We have a winner with #2´s assessment. I´ve said it here a couple of times before, I strongly suggest all the Lincolnphiles read, "The Real Lincoln" by Thomas DiLorenzo. These two Presidents have far more in common than many would believe (or would like to). Teddy Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson are typically identified as the first progressives. They are wrong, Lincoln was by far.

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, N.J.- The din of power tools echoes through the cavernous warehouse that once housed Donald Trump´s surplus blackjack tables and where purple-patterned carpeting evoking his casinos still covers the floor inside the office. The landscape inside is fast being altered. Here, the seeds for South Jersey´s first medical marijuana farm are expected to be planted next month, and plastic vials of marijuana are scheduled to be sold beginning Sept. 9. The facility, in an industrial park outside Atlantic City, would be only the second such "alternative treatment center" to open in the state

President Obama raised more than $43 million for his second inauguration, with corporations, unions and other interest groups contributing $18 million, according to a new Federal Election Commission (FEC) report. The 2013 inaugural ceremonies’ fundraising total falls short of the more than $53 million Obama raised for his first inauguration. For his second inauguration, Obama accepted corporate contributions and donors could give in unlimited amounts. That’s different than in 2009 when the president limited his inaugural fundraising, banning corporate contributions and capping

The alleged Boston Marathon bomber may have tried to kill himself rather than surrender after he was cornered by police - but failed in his suicide attempt, it has been revealed. A new report says Dzhokhar Tsarnaev shoved his pistol in his own mouth and pulled the trigger as SWAT officers and federal agents closed in on the boat where he was hiding in Friday night. However, instead of killing him, the bullet simply passed through his neck. Authorities have said they cannot question him because of a throat wound. He remains in ´very serious´ condition at a Boston hospital.

The New York Times´ Maureen Dowd ripped President Obama for failing to do enough on gun-control and said he "still has not learned how to govern." "President Obama has watched the blood-dimmed tide drowning the ceremony of innocence, as Yeats wrote, and he has learned how to emotionally connect with Americans in searing moments, as he did from the White House late Friday night after the second bombing suspect was apprehended in Boston," she writes in a column published Sunday. WASHINGTON- Presidential security at the annual White House correspondents´ dinner in Washington will probably be tightened this year, a former presidential aide said. Bradley Blakeman, a deputy assistant to former President George W. Bush, says he expects to see additional "presence of uniformed police, and police cars, and that kind of thing," The Hill reported Saturday. "But a lot of additional ramped up security you probably won´t see," he added.(Snip) The annual dinner is hosted by the White House Correspondents´ Association and traditionally attended by the president. It is scheduled for April 27 at the Washington Hilton hotel.

As a former bull-rider, William “Buck” Uptmor didn’t get spooked by much. So when the fire began at the fertilizer plant in West, Texas, he jumped into his truck and rushed to the scene to assist volunteer firefighters. When his 17-year-old cousin, Reagan Uptmore, heard the explosion at the West Fertilizer Co. plant — a blast so powerful it registered as a magnitude 2.1 earthquake — his first thought was Buck: “I called him … and he didn’t answer,” Uptmore said. The family began a frantic search, but Uptmor is still missing and believed to be among the dead

The Boston Marathon terrorist attack allegedly hatched by two brothers from Chechnya is threatening to disrupt President Obama’s second-term agenda. Opponents of immigration reform — the most promising priority of Obama’s second term remaining after the defeat of gun control — are already using the attack to try to slow progress on a bipartisan Senate bill. (Snip) The issues are expected to create political problems and distractions for Obama, whose fight against terrorism has largely been a political success highlighted by the killing of Osama bin Laden. That works out to more than $5,300 in cash pouring in every day to the Allen West Guardian Fund, a political action committee that´s part of a multi-faceted effort to keep the West brand vibrant. WEST- Like his constituents, Mayor Tommy Muska suffered a deep personal loss from the devastating explosion that rocked his small town. First responders killed in the blast were fellow volunteer firemen and close friends. His home was among the 60-plus that were seriously damaged or destroyed. Yet, as West confronts a tragedy that no one saw coming, Muska exudes a resilient spirit that is characteristic of this Central Texas community forged by Czech immigrants more than a century ago(Snip)"Close-knit" is a phrase used repeatedly by both outsiders and West residents to describe the town´s character.

When Morris Bridges got the alert about the West Fertilizer Co. fire on Wednesday, he knew dinner would have to wait. Friends say the 41-year-old fire sprinkler technician and West Volunteer Fire Department rookie kissed his toddler goodbye and told his wife, Carman, that he would be right back. From miles around West, volunteers suited up and sped toward a fire on Jerry Mashek Road that turned out to be a death trap for Bridges and more than a dozen others. Of the 14 confirmed by late Friday as victims of the massive explosion, at least nine were firefighters.

Federal law enforcement officials are actively investigating the possibility that the Boston bombers were known to the government’s terror-trackers, MailOnline understands. Any inquiry into the marathon bombing will look into whether agents could have taken action – but didn’t – to prevent the Tsarnaev brothers from obtaining the explosives that killed 3 and wounded 173 others. CBS News reported Friday evening that two years ago, the FBI interviewed the elder brother Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, who was killed in Thursday night´s dramatic shootout. The feds reportedly spoke to him at the request of an unspecified foreign government, but couldn´t

So once again, no good deed goes unpunished. Uncle Sam lets another bunch of leeching future terrorists into the country who have absolutely no business being here, gives them “asylum,” making them immediately eligible for welfare, and this is the thanks we get? They turn into mass murderers. We bring in thousands of Muslims from a primitive society that has been battling Christians for centuries, and put them into a peaceful Christian society — what could possible go wrong? This is what I was thinking about yesterday, with much of the city under what amounted to martial law.

In 1962, at the Carlyle Hotel in New York, a man “peeled off his clothing and began prancing around his hotel suite.” His bodyguards were cautiously amused, until the man “left the suite and began roaming through the corridor of the Carlyle.” The man in question was delusional, paranoid and suffering a “psychotic break” from the effects of an overdose of methamphetamine. He was also the president of the United States. The reason for John F. Kennedy’s bizarre behavior was that, according to an explosive new book, the president was — unbeknownst to him, at first — a meth addict.

Rubio explained that under his bill ilegal aliens who "have committed serious crimes" will be deported. However, the proposal will apparently not deem as a serious crime the habit

We are still speculating about virtually everything right now, but I feel as though I need to explain why I find the quick and easy conversation about Muslims being radicalized in America to be so illogical and laced with bigotry. Of course, there is a global violent jihadist movement, loosely organized, that wants to recruit young men to influence policies at home and abroad and perhaps usher in the global caliphate. That ideology motivates some Muslims to kill innocent people. But you´re allowed to be a radical Muslim in America.

The Council on American Islamic Relations again offered sympathy to victims of the Boston Marathon bombing on Friday, but added a plea for Americans not to generalize and conclude that Muslim teachings influenced the suspect in any way. "Our focus is primarily on the victims," said Ahmed Rehab, executive director of the Chicago chapter at a press conference Friday afternoon. "We don´t want to be drawn into defending ourselves." Citing acts of violence in Boston and New York, Rehab blamed Islamophobic forces for inciting hate crimes.

Washington — The governor of Massachusetts says he has no idea what motivated the terrorists who exploded two bombs near the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Speaking Sunday on CBS’ ”Face the Nation,” Deval (deh-VAL’) Patrick said it’s hard to imagine why someone would deliberately harm, quote “innocent men, women and children in the way that these two fellows did.” Patrick also said law enforcers believe the immediate threat ended when the police killed one of the alleged terrorists and captured the other. The two men were brothers whose family had come to the U.S.
