Kind-hearted British holidaymakers save Spanish
dog which was chained up and left to die
by spending £1,000 to fly her home

Daily Mail [UK], by Amanda Williams

Reduced to skin and bones, without food, water or shelter and with another dead dog chained next to her--this is how animal lovers Chris and Bob Thornton found Noa the German Shepherd. The dog had been tethered to a gate outside a derelict cottage in a remote mountainous region of Spain and left to die. But thanks to the kind-hearted holiday makers, who paid £1,000 to fly her back to their home near Burton-in-Kendal, Cumbria, the dog is now back to optimum health. The couple, from the village of Clawthorpe, were on a trek to Mount Sagra with friends

Comments:
Start your day with a big "Awww!"

In these grim days we in the US must not lose our caring for small things where we can, whether it be a human, bird, cat, dog or any other living creature in dire need of help through no fault of its own. We need that spark of humanity to keep us going. The payback exceeds the effort many times over.

There are three things that will drive me into a homicidal rage faster than anything else.

Child abuse
Elder abuse
Animal abuse

How a nam or woman treats children, eleders and animals is a direct indication of character. The new owners demonstrated their characted and the original owner should be flayed.

I told my husband and he said "you have to go get them right now". The Dear Lord in Heaven knows the last thing we needed was more doggies but here they are laying under my desk well fed and warm. It makes me furious to hear of animal abuse. I´m glad this dog is now safe and happy.
Last week I saw a story from Cheyenne Wyoming about 28 neglected and abused Shih Tzus being turned in to a shelter after their owner was taken to a hospital. People are on a waiting list to adopt them, but that can´t happen unless the owner signs a release after being released from the hospital. My wife and I had to fight the urge to try to adopt one, but we can´t take on another dog. Our Shih Tzu is old and blind and with our arthritis it´s all we can do to carry her around and meet her needs for whatever time she has left. We´re afraid to take on another dog that would most likely live longer than we will.

For those who might be taken in by the ASPCA and US Humane Society ads for donations - please re-consider donating to these huge national orgnaizations who have large staffs with nice salaries and do no actual hands on work rescuing animals.

Instead, seriously consider local shelters or rescue groups. They do more bang with your buck and you can actually see what they are doing.

Excuse me #13, but simply because you knew ONE person does not mean they all are.
It appears to me that cultures that do not relish life act this way. I said the same thing about the 15,000 elderly people who died in the heat wave in France a few years back and the children would not return from holiday to pick up the bodies. They sat in hallways, rotting.
I live near Philly; we all were appalled by the Eagles taking Vick. BUT in his culture(Boy, I sure do miss the AMERICAN culture) dog fighting is common.
I feel the same way about democrats who will support the kiling of innocent babies.

Finally, guess what? Southern Cultures venerate DEATH. Go look it up and come back and tell me how your friend was an outlier.

Stupid people. If they didn´t want the dog(s), why get one in the first place? And if they were going to abandon it, why not give it away or at least send him to a shelter? Or at the VERY least, leave him without having him tied up so he would at least be able to get water and maybe hunt for food.

My soon to be 15 year old guy is from the shelter. Best thing I´ve ever done.

Britain’s top U.S.-based diplomat capped off his first visit to Charleston on Monday by calling for stronger trade and tourism ties between his nation and United States. Charleston is well-positioned to capitalize in both instances, said Ambassador Sir Peter Westmacott. As a major East Coast port city, Charleston could become “a major hub for this connection into the U.K.,” he said at a World Trade Center Charleston luncheon at the Harbour Club. “You are one of the most important port cities in the United States,” he said. Also, Westmacott urged local travel officials to direct more marketing at British tourists.

WASHINGTON—The Supreme Court left in doubt Monday whether gun owners have a 2nd Amendment right to carry a firearm in public. Without a comment or dissent, the justices turned down a gun-rights challenge to a New York law that strictly limits who can legally carry a weapon when they are on the streets. To obtain a "concealed carry" permit, New Yorkers must convince a county official that they have a "special need for protection" that goes beyond living or working in a high-crime area. Only about one-tenth of 1% of New Yorkers have concealed-carry permits, compared to more than 6%

The trial of Philadelphia doctor Kermit Gosnell would seem to have all the elements of a spectacular news story: shocking allegations, horrifying visuals, sympathetic victims. Yet until late last week, much of the national media was silent as testimony about Gosnell’s alleged “house of horrors” abortion clinic rolled out. Much of the media attention outside Philadelphia, in fact, centered on how little media attention the story was receiving outside Philadelphia.
