‘Obama Part 2’ a lousy sequel

| So Much for the honeymoon. Just a week after his re-election, President Obama showed only occasional flashes of conciliation yesterday, with his press conference sounding more like a sequel to the bitter campaign than a fresh start to a second term. Whatever the topic, he was by turns evasive, strident and pugnacious. No wonder the stock market took another tumble, with the Dow down a staggering 685 points since Nov. 6. His combative attitude suggests Obama wants a fight instead of bipartisan solutions to America’s problems. He even issued a challenge to a schoolyard brawl over the Benghazi

Comments: Yes indeed it is a lousy sequel. I´m not so sure how vibrant that constitutional system of checks and balances is as he mentions in the article. We have two of them who ignore the Constitution completely, and the Supreme Court is getting more questionable every day.

He´s a mean man. The reporters at his news conference were dressed in their finest, and they were frightened to ask a tough question. He glared holes in Ed and refused to answer his question.
The kneepad media cannot stand up to him. I do think that it´s funny that when you do an internet search for "slobbering Chicago reporter on 11/14/12" you get Christi who fell over herself loving on him.

BOSTON - A law enforcement official has told CBS News that an arrest has been made in the Boston Marathon bombings. The person has been taken into custody by federal marshals and will be in court Wednesday afternoon. Investigators made a “clear identification” of a suspect in the bombings, according to CNN, with surveillance video. Correspondent John King, a Boston native, said authorities have a clear video image of a “dark-skinned male” placing a bag at the second bomb site outside of the Forum restaurant on Boylston Street and then leaving the area before that explosion. Investigators believe they have identified a suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings, a source who has been briefed on the investigation told CNN´s John King exclusively. The breakthrough came from analysis of video from a department store near the site of the second explosion. Video from a Boston television station also contributed to the progress, said the source, who declined to be more specific but called it a significant development. Earlier, a federal law enforcement source with firsthand knowledge of the investigation told CNN that a lid to a pressure cooker thought to have

Crooner Tony Bennett is teaming up with the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and Voices Against Violence on a text message mission to let citizens reach out to Senate offices. Bennett told Politico we live in frightening times, but citizens shouldn´t be afraid of speaking out against gun violence. “There’ something that’s gone wrong and, as citizens, we should protest what happened in Connecticut. It should never happen again anywhere in the United States and we should be the country that teaches the rest of the world that we, the citizens of America, want peace and not violence....”

Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) on Tuesday proposed legislation that would require hospitals to maintain a minimum nurse-to-patient ratio at all times, and allow the government to audit and penalize hospitals that fail to comply with this rule. Boxer said her bill, S. 739, is meant to help address the nation´s shortage of nurses, and would also ensure patients get the care they need while in the hospital. "I am proud to introduce legislation that will help save the lives of countless patients by improving the quality of care in our nation’s hospitals," Boxer said Tuesday.

House Speaker John Boehner is being pressed by the conservative wing of the Republican Party not to allow a vote on major pieces of legislation -- from gun control to immigration -- without majority Republican support, after recent signals that he could be open to building a coalition with Democrats. Tea Party favorite and second-term Rep. Tim Huelskamp is among the most recent to express concern, saying Tuesday that Boehner “assured us” that he´d seek a majority Republican coalition before proceeding on controversial bills. “Why do we have the majority if we don’t do what the majority wants?”

Roger Wicker tested positive for the same substance. The warnings come amid a flurry of reports on suspicious packages on Capitol Hill. Fox News has learned of at least three suspicious packages in two separate Capitol Hill office buildings, compounding security concerns in the wake of the letter incidents and the Boston bombing, which the FBI has said

President Barack Obama has said he doesn´t believe North Korea can fit a nuclear warhead on a missile, casting strong doubt on an alarming assessment disclosed last week by the Pentagon´s intelligence arm. And he warned the young North Korean leader Kim Jong Un that weeks of threats against the United States and South Korea had only served to isolate the regime further. Asked in an NBC News interview whether North Korea could put a nuclear weapon on a ballistic missile, Obama said, "Based on our current intelligence assessments, we do not think that they have that capacity."

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) has his first official primary challenger: Attorney Richard Cash (R) has announced he´ll run against the senator. Cash, a social conservative activist who narrowly lost a House primary runoff election to now-Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-S.C.) in 2010, said Graham has lost touch with South Carolina values in announcing his candidacy on his website. "I am running to replace Senator Lindsey Graham because I believe that after 20 years in Washington he is out of touch with South Carolina values and voters. Although Senator Graham might be hard-working and sincere, I cannot distinguish

The immigration bill senators introduced Wednesday bans racial profiling by federal law enforcement officers in most routine encounters, such as traffic stops. Under current federal law and court precedents, racial discrimination is illegal — but there is no specific ban on racial profiling by federal officers. But buried inside the 844-page Senate immigration bill is a section specifically prohibiting the use of race or ethnicity as a factor in “routine or spontaneous law enforcement decisions, such as ordinary traffic stops.” Still, that language already represents a compromise. An earlier draft of the bill, reviewed by The Washington Times,

WASHINGTON — A second letter send to the US Senate has tested positive for the deadly poison ricin, according to a new report. The second poisoned letter was revealed by ABC´s Terry Moran on his Twitter account today. Yesterday, an envelope containing ricin was sent to the office of Republican Sen. Roger Wicker of Mississippi — and authorities last night said they have identified a suspect in the case, although he did not appear to be in custody. The letter was intercepted by an off-site mail-screening facility in DC yesterday afternoon and later was sent

Friends and allies of Baroness Thatcher expressed ‘surprise and disappointment’ last night as it emerged President Obama is not planning to send any serving member of his administration to her funeral. Whitehall sources have revealed that the U.S. delegation at tomorrow’s service in St Paul’s Cathedral will be led by two Reagan era secretaries of state: James Baker and George Shultz. Though President Obama himself had not been expected to attend, there had been speculation that he would be represented either by Vice President Joe Biden or wife Michelle. Protocol: President Obama declined to send a high-level delegation to Wednesday´s funeral of Britain´s Margaret Thatcher. It´s a measure of how little he values the special relationship — and a sign of his own smallness. Back in more gracious times, vice presidents routinely attended funerals of foreign dignitaries. As such, the presence of Vice President Joe Biden — if not Obama himself — would seem fitting for as significant a U.S. ally as the late Prime Minister Thatcher, if not out of warmth of feeling, then simply to represent the U.S.´ gratitude. BOSTON -- The bombs that blew up seconds apart at the finish line of one of the world´s most storied races left the streets spattered with blood and glass, three dead, including an 8-year-old boy, more than 140 wounded and gaping questions of who chose to attack at the Boston Marathon and why. Federal investigators said no one had claimed responsibility for the bombings one of the city´s most famous civic holidays, Patriots Day. But the blasts among the throngs of spectators raised fears of a terrorist attack. President Barack Obama was careful not to use the

President Obama angrily blamed the defeat Wednesday of his centerpiece gun-control proposal on lies spread by the National Rifle Association, calling it “a pretty shameful day for Washington.” “The gun lobby and its allies willfully lied about the bill,” Mr. Obama said in the White House rose garden about 90 minutes after the vote. “It came down to politics.” As he spoke, Mr. Obama was surrounded by family members of victims of the Newtown, Conn., school shooting. Also with him was former Rep. Gabby Giffords of Arizona, wounded in an assassination attempt.

President Obama pledged that the United States would punish anyone responsible for the explosions at the Boston Marathon today, but he said that “people shouldn’t jump to conclusions” about the tragedy. “We still do not know who did this or why and people shouldn’t jump to conclusions before they have all the facts,” Obama told reporters during a statement from the White House. “Any responsible individuals, any responsible groups, will feel the full weight of justice,” he added. Two explosions occurred today near the finish line of the Boston Marathon,

Authorities on Tuesday revealed little new information about the terrorist attack at the Boston Marathon, the most high-profile bombing on U.S. soil in more than a decade and a tragedy that presents a new test for President Obama. Obama, like all Americans, is standing by, waiting for answers as to who planted two bombs improvised from pressure cookers at the finish line of the storied race, and why. Three Americans were killed in Monday´s attack and more than 170 others were injured. "Anytime bombs are used to target innocent civilians, it is an act of terror," Obama said,

The Senate delivered a devastating blow to President Obama’s agenda to regulate guns Wednesday by defeating a bipartisan proposal to expand background checks. It failed by a vote of 54 to 46, with 5 Democrats voting against it. Only 4 Republicans supported it. Democratic Sens. Mark Pryor (Ark.), Max Baucus (Mont.), Heidi Heitkamp (N.D.), Mark Begich (Alaska) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (Nev.) voted against it. Reid supported the measure but voted against it to preserve his ability to bring the measure up again. GOP Sens. John McCain (Ariz.), Susan Collins (Maine), Pat Toomey (Pa.) and Mark Kirk

MSNBC contributor Joy-Ann Reid told the host of Now, Alex Wagner, that she thought President Barack Obama’s response to the attack on the Boston Marathon on Monday was powerful and comforting in a way that President George W. Bush’s response to the attacks of September 11, 2001, was not. She accused Bush of being unavailable to the American people for the “first couple weeks” after the attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. As we now move into the official Political Aftermath period of the Boston bombing — the period that will determine the long-term legislative fallout of the atrocity — the dynamics of privilege will undoubtedly influence the nation’s collective reaction to the attacks. That’s because privilege tends to determine: 1) which groups are — and are not — collectively denigrated or targeted for the unlawful actions of individuals; and 2) how big and politically game-changing the overall reaction ends up being.

Mark Kelly, the husband of former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.), is threatening to back an election challenge against Sen. Jeff Flake if the Arizona Republican votes against legislation to expand background checks. At a Christian Science Monitor breakfast on Tuesday, Kelly said he would back an opponent to Flake if the "right candidate" was available and if the senator failed to support a background check bill, according to reports. Flake, who is not up for reelection until 2018, has been close to Kelly and Giffords. But Kelly said the issue of control trumped their ties.
