| Though they weren’t able to pick up the 25 seats necessary for a majority in the House, Democratic leaders are touting the incoming class of freshman Congressman, particularly for its diversity. Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.., and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chair Steve Israel, D-N.Y., introduced the newly elected lawmakers this week on Capitol Hill. “These new members reflect the priorities and diversity and the values of the districts that elected them,” Israel said. “The Republican Caucus, if you look at it, it looks like a re-run of the show ‘Mad Men.’ Our caucus looks like America.”

Not to sound racist, but a couple of points--
Whites are still the majority in this country, and 1/2 of those are men. The overall majority of leaders around the world are men. The majority of CEOs are men, and most of those are white men.
As such, a predominately white, male group would most closely reflect that makeup of the country.
In California, we have a rich culture of diversity and strong democratic values. These values include abortion on demand, no parental notification of minor´s abortions, ruining farmers lives in favor of smelts and new generators, a collapsed solar industry, a negative business environment, gays as some sort of protected class, a laughable entertainment industry, almost the highest taxes in the nation, a crippled infrastructure, businesses leaving, wall to wall illegal aliens, and no leadership.
There´s diversity in action for you.

Don´t know if this is the place to complain. But... the cartoon today is offensive to me. It wasn´t white males who elected obama, it was single women and racist africans. (I refuse to call them African-Americans anymore because they put their race above their country)

White men need not apply has been the mantra of the left starting with the women´s movement of the 1970´s. I listened to portions of this clap-trap. What a disgrace the so called Democrats are. I am ashamed of the way they continue to divide Americans according to sex, race, ethnicity and now... gay, Lesbian or bi. How very discouraging and disheartening it all is. I still ask myself how could so many Americans again vote for Obama after living through the nightmare of the last 4 years. The inability of so many to think and reason past their self-absorbed selves is stunning. This time around..there was no excuse to vote America´s Fascist president in for another 4 years of hell. He and his ilk will double down on their idiological desires causing misery to all Americans.

The company my son joined as a consultant is a perfect case study.
The owner is white, extremely nice, conservative. His partner and doctor is a popular dermatologist who built his practice with nothing 40 years ago. His son, my son´s boss, built his business from nothing.
When my son started consulting, the company had many problems. It was a "rainbow" of diversity. The only issue I have with the owner is he is TOO nice, and tried to give people way too many chances after non-performance. His female accountant always had "family issues", had to leave early, and was caught stealing and fired. His latino graphic designer was a decent designer, but would take weeks to do a simple task. The shipping receiving guys, all latino, wouldn´t break a sweat if their lives depended on it.
My son is willing to work 14 hour days. He doesn´t complain about anything, works almost every weekend. His work ethic is inherited. Our family works hard and enjoys a great standard of living. 4 years ago he immersed himself in technology and marketing education. He absorbed so much knowledge he tested out of high school. Since he joined the company, he brought in his own graphics guy (white, what a surprise), the company now has a real website and a strong brand. Guess what, 30% increase in revenue in six months. When have you heard that, in this economy?
His compensation is attached to revenue. He is gaining on me and will surpass my salary in February 2013.
Oh my son is white. He is 18.

The white guy thing is not a big deal. The fact that people of good will, grace, and wisdom are also a minority among house Democrats is the real problem.
Thanks to this election, things a are going to get much worse before they get better.

There is a little bit of double standard here. Republicans profess to support the Jewish community and Israel yet the statistics speak differently. There are 11 Jewish Senators currently. All are democrats (Bernie Sanders is independent). No Republican Senators who are Jewish. There are 26 Jewish U.S. Representatives. 25 are Democrats. 1 (Eric Cantor) is Republican.

Stopping through Connecticut for the first time since a mentally ill gunman slaughtered 20 first-graders and six educators at a Newtown elementary school in December, President Obama on Monday delivered an impassioned speech, rallying those affected by gun violence to "expect more" from Congress and to urge lawmakers to move this week on legislation. "The day Newtown happened was the toughest day of my presidency," Mr. Obama told the crowd at the University of Hartford, where family members of the massacre´s victims sat. "But I´ve got to tell you, if we don´t respond to this,

Since when has it been considered smart to tell your enemies what your plans are? Yet there on the front page of the April 8th New York Times was a story about how unnamed "American officials" were planning a "proportional" response to any North Korean attack. This was spelled in an example: If the North Koreans "shell a South Korean island that had military installations" then the South Koreans would retaliate with "a barrage of artillery of similar intensity." Whatever the merits or demerits of such a plan, what conceivable purpose can be served by telling the North Koreans

With nearly a third - and possibly more - of his caucus ready to filibuster the gun control bill in the Senate, Minority Leader Mitch McConnell bowed to the inevitable and announced he would oppose any cloture vote on the legislation. Politico: "While nobody knows yet what Senator Reid´s plan is for the gun bill, if he chooses to file cloture on the motion to proceed to the Reid Bill (S. 649), Senator McConnell will oppose cloture on proceeding to that bill," McConnell spokesman John Ashbrook said in a statement. Hours after the Lockerbie atrocity, Mrs Thatcher was wading through the carnage wrought by terrorists over a small Scottish town, paying her condolences to the bereaved. It had been a long and harrowing day, but when she arrived back in London late that night she still found time to phone me at home. Her voice was anxious, kind. She asked: ‘How is Ray, dear?’ The day before, my husband had suffered a serious accident and Mrs Thatcher had been characteristically solicitous, offering her car to run me home.

White House officials have decided to go ahead with annual garden tours this year despite sequester cuts, an official familiar with the decision tells POLITICO. Tours of the White House itself remained canceled because the cuts have left Secret Service short on manpower to staff them. But there will be enough agents to staff the garden tours, the official said. The tours are slated to happen this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Guests will be able to view the Jacqueline Kennedy Garden, Rose Garden and South Lawn of the White House,

Arizona Gov. Janice Brewer has signed a law providing strong new restrictions on the use of so-called "seclusion rooms" in schools – closet-sized rooms where children with behavioral disabilities such as autism were being locked up as punishment. "It is chilling to imagine an Arizona school child being shut away in a padded room, no larger than a closet, for hours on end," Brewer said after signing the law Friday. "There has to be a better way." With the new law, Arizona will join more than 30 other states that impose rules on the restraint of students in public schools.

There was growing buzz over the weekend that a bipartisan agreement on gun control — a deal that would expand background checks — could hit the floor as early as this week. However, any deal could be derailed by the looming threat of a Republican filibuster involving Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. With Cruz standing proudly in the way of any gun legislation, Democrats are trying to make him pay a political price — and even a couple of high-profile Republicans are questioning his tactics.

Writing in the blog The Review, J.P. Freire performs a devastating examination of how the Associated Press eulogized former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher on Monday versus how the news service examined the legacy of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez upon his death. What Freire found was an evident sense of admiration for Chavez’s accomplishments as the Latin American state’s autocratic leader, but a distinct lack of respect for Thatcher’s achievements in office. “Love her or loathe her, one thing’s beyond dispute: Margaret Thatcher transformed Britain,” AP opened the former U.K. prime minister’s obituary on Monday.

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”
