| Defense Secretary Leon Panetta announced last night that the onetime top Pentagon official in Africa has been forced to retire after an investigation found that he traveled too lavishly. Panetta decided that Gen. William E. Ward, former commander of U.S. Africa Command, should be retired at the grade of lieutenant general. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey reportedly urged Panetta to let Ward retire at his four-star rank. “The Department of the Army will also seek to recoup roughly $82,000 in expenses stemming from Gen. Ward’s misconduct

Seems to me to be a systematic dishonoring of our military leaders. Neutralize the military and the administration can do anything they want. It´s been only 8 days since the election and re-immaculation of the dear leader, and three military leaders have fallen. Seems a message is being sent. Chilling to say the least. I never thought this could happen in the US.

Sadly, these miltary leaders handed the ammo to the administration.
If Petraeus wasn´t diddling the ´socialite´ or Gen Ward wasn´t have the government shuttle his wife around on shopping trips, this type of purge wouldn´t be nearly as easy.
They´d have to resort to slipping bags of coke into the generals´ luggage and other less-believable tactics. Don´t give ´em the ammo.

I think general dempsey is a fool.
And general ward has to be especially stupid not covering up his excessive spending. His aides should have been able to handle that for him.
But dempsey is sending a clear message to all of his subordinates - spend, and don´t worry about it. I´ve got your back...
Dempsey should be removed from his position.

I think all these revelations about our top military brass is setting the stage for restructuring of our military and sequestration of funds. Our military will be neutered. Since its our military that invades other countries and we are the bad guys-we need to be cut down to size. Starting with our military. We all know this is part of the plan to weaken the U.S.

Stalin purged his Generals the easy way, he just had them killed or sent to the Gulag never to be heard from again. Oflapears is doing the same thing by trashing them into submission. If Ward has done what they say, then there should be consequences. But it is pure hypocracy for Panetta to be concerned about Ward when he has been abusing his position with his constant trips to Ca to visit his family. The money spent with his travel, all for personal reasons is far more than the $82K Ward is accused of. But then the military has always been held to a higher standard than any damocrat since there are no standards for damocrats

I´m reminded of that great plan for libertarians to flood into New Hampshire, the "Live Free or Die" state and turn it into a libertarian wonderland. How did that work out and how did New Hampshire vote for the last election?
People keep looking for some easy way to get away from it all but it just isn´t that simple, and people sound silly talking as if it´s simple. It´s not.
And just in case anyone needs a reminder, secession worked out pretty badly the last time it was tried.

It is too early to say much about today’s terrorist attack on the Boston Marathon, but one thing struck me when I watched this video, which Steve posted earlier today, as well as other videos and photos of the aftermath of the explosions: The response to the bombs by the crowd at the finish line was, I think, exemplary. Sure, many people fled from the explosions, and reasonably so. But a remarkable number ran, as they say, to the sound of the guns, even though when two bombs go off, one might well expect more. It was too good to last. For the last few weeks, the Obama administration has been showing more fortitude in confronting a belligerent North Korea than either the Bush or Clinton administrations had done. But last week, as I previously noted, there was a worrisome leak in the New York Times which quoted administration officials as saying that any response to a North Korean attack would be strictly proportional—which can only encourage Kim Jong-un to act, safe in the knowledge that the U.S. and South Korea will not “over-react” and bring down his criminal regime in response.

In light of the explosions that have rocked Boston on Patriots’ Day, during the city’s annual marathon, NBC reporter Luke Russert took to Twitter to speculate that today’s horrific events could possibly be related to the 1993 government siege on the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas — an incident often attached to conversations about “right-wing terrorism” and anti-government violence. “I was at Fenway Park w my dad and @mikebarnicle during Waco which was on Patriots Day in 1993. Yet until late last week, much of the national media was silent as testimony about Gosnell’s alleged “house of horrors” abortion clinic rolled out. Much of the media attention outside Philadelphia, in fact, centered on how little media attention the story was receiving outside Philadelphia.
