“Palestine” Does Not Qualify as a “State”
Commentary Magazine, by Rick Richman

Original Article

Posted By:jpundit, 11/13/2012 5:15:27 PM

Back in 2005, after Israel removed every soldier and settler from Gaza, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas announced that “from this day forward, there will be no security turmoil and weapons chaos and abductions, which are not characteristic of our culture.” He proved a poor prognosticator regarding Palestinian culture: given the chance to live “side by side in peace and security” with Israel, the Palestinians demonstrated they could not do so even with themselves.

Comments:
Four requirements for a state under international law, and "Palestine" meets none of them.

I believe it does qualify as a state.

If it weren´t for the U.S. government, Palestine would lack another essential element of statehood -- money to run itself on.

But thanks to Obama and company, U.S. taxpayers are forced to contribute $900 million a year to make sure Hamas can afford to buy missiles to shoot into Israeli kindergartens.

During the budget negotiations, the Republicans should at least demand that in making budget cuts, the Democrats be required to choose between funding either one or the other of their favorite recipients -- Big Bird or Hamas.

Have you seen photos of the luxury homes, retail malls & restaurants in Palestine? No... just kids throwing rocks.

Benji needs to act swiftly or Israel will be dust this year. Pray for Israel.

In an interview with Robert Gates, posted on Friday, Hugh Hewitt asked the former defense secretary to respond to John Bolton’s characterization of the Iranian deal as another Munich (and Charles Krauthammer’s characterization of it as a catastrophe more cynical than Munich). Gates did not directly respond, but he set forth a procedure designed to prevent it from being one: (snip) [W]hat I would be arguing if I were in the Situation Room is okay, then the negotiations begin on whatever the date, January 25th or whatever. As John Steele Gordon predicted, the Supreme Court argument on President Obama’s “recess” appointments was “high constitutional drama.” SCOTUSblog reports there were long lines and cameras outside, a full press gallery inside, and both White House spokesman Jay Carney and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell in attendance. The Court appears ready to rule that Obama exceeded his constitutional power to fill “Vacancies that may happen during the Recess of the Senate” by deciding for himself the Senate was in recess when the Senate considered itself in session. There was also a moment of what we can call “high constitutional candor”

In her “Memo from Jerusalem” in the New York Times, Jodi Rudoren asserts that “in recent weeks,” Benjamin Netanyahu has “catapulted to the fore” an issue “even more intractable than old ones like security and settlements: a demand that the Palestinians recognize Israel as a Jewish state.” (Snip) The issue, however, was not recently “catapulted to the fore” by Netanyahu; it is an issue that long pre-dates him; and it goes to the heart of whether the “peace process” is about peace.

Lest we forget: exactly four years ago today, Senate Democrats rammed through what would later be called ObamaCare, on a purely partisan vote, ignoring warnings it would be a BFD (big future disaster). On Thursday, December 24, 2009, the New York Times reported on the week: The vote on Monday, in the dead of night, was 60 to 40. The vote on Tuesday, just after daybreak, was 60 to 39. And the vote on Wednesday afternoon, at a civil hour but after less-than-civil debate, was 60 to 39 again -- an immutable tally that showed Democrats unwavering in the march in the march to adopt a far-reaching overhaul of the health care in the

During the House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing last week on the Iran nuclear deal, Rep. Brad Sherman (D-CA) addressed Secretary of State Kerry about the lack of enforcement of Iran sanctions since the election of Iranian President Rouhani. Sherman said there were “dozens and dozens” of companies sanctioned in the first half of this year, but only one designation since June; he said he hoped we were not “slow-walking things” on account of Rouhani. Two days later, the State Department sanctioned 19 new people or companies, with a press release saying this showed the administration will “relentlessly enforce” existing

On the New York Times op-ed page, Haaretz columnist Ari Shavit writes that if an American-Iranian nuclear agreement is signed “it would represent an Iranian victory – and an American defeat.” It would “guarantee that [Iran] would eventually cross the [nuclear] finish line.” It is the product of “a Munich mind-set” creating “the illusion of peace-in-our-time while paving the way to a nuclear-Iran-in-our-time.” It is “a deeply flawed agreement” that “is an illusion”–and the “so-called moderate president of Iran, Hassan Rouhani, is an illusion, too.” Obama ignored allies “who warned him that he was being naïve,”

The Wall Street Journal notes that “it says something about the current Palestinian leadership that it has made the release of killers a condition of peace talks,” and the Journal asks “why anyone should expect that a peace process that begins by setting murderers free is likely to result in peace.” The short answer is no one does — nor would anyone expect it even if the process were to begin with a handshake on the White House lawn rather than the release of murderers.

Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Charlene Lamb testified that on September 11, after the “full-scale assault” in Libya — “unprecedented in its size and intensity” — began about 9:40 p.m. Libyan time (4:40 p.m. Washington time), she was “in our Diplomatic Security Command Center [in Washington] monitoring multiple open lines with our agents [in Libya] for much of the attack.” On Friday, a CNN reporter asked Hillary Clinton what she was doing as the attack occurred, and Clinton responded with a 400-word answer that avoided the question. Here was the colloquy:

Many of the Republican Party’s most powerful insiders and financiers have begun a behind-the-scenes campaign to draft former Florida governor Jeb Bush into the 2016 presidential race, courting him and his intimates and starting talks on fundraising strategy. Concerned that the George Washington Bridge traffic scandal has damaged New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s political standing and alarmed by the steady rise of Sen. Rand Paul (Ky.), prominent donors, conservative leaders and longtime operatives say they consider Bush the GOP’s brightest hope to win back the White House.

I have no objections to Jeb Bush running for president. He obviously has a wide appeal as a potential candidate. If Betsey McCaughey is correct (and I bet she is, because she has not only read the entire ObamaCare bill, she has written a book about it), Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan publicly humiliated herself during the oral arguments on the Hobby Lobby case, revealing that she either did not read the law, or failed to comprehend it if she did so. Writing in the New York Sun, McCaughey lays out what is wrong with the Justice’s declaration about Obamacare: she asserted that the statute itself mandates provision of birth control. Not one word in the Affordable Care Act guarantees health plans will cover birth control products.

YOKOHAMA, Japan — Climate change is already having sweeping effects on every continent and throughout the world’s oceans, scientists reported Monday, and they warned that the problem is likely to grow substantially worse unless greenhouse emissions are brought under control. The report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, a United Nations group that periodically summarizes climate science, concluded that ice caps are melting, sea ice in the Arctic is collapsing, water supplies are coming under stress, heat waves and heavy rains are intensifying, coral reefs are dying, and fish and many other creatures are migrating toward the poles or

A National Labor Relations Board official has given the green light to Northwestern University football players to form a union. Ohr rejected the longstanding view of Northwestern and the National Collegiate Athletic Association that players are "student-athletes" rather than employees.
