Dems short on votes
for filibuster reform

The Hill [Washington, DC], by Alexander Bolton

Original Article

Posted By:KarenJ1, 11/13/2012 10:49:48 AM

Democrats don’t have the 51 votes they need in the Senate to change filibuster rules that could make it harder for the GOP minority to wield power in the upper chamber. Lawmakers leading the charge acknowledge they remain short, but express optimism they’ll hit their goal. “I haven’t counted 51 just yet, but we’re working,” said Sen. Tom Udall (D-N.M.), a leading proponent of the so-called constitutional or “nuclear” option, in which Senate rules could be changed by a majority vote. “We’re building the momentum right now,”

Comments:
Maybe some of them realize it could be also used against them. Idiots.

I think they will change them. When Republicans will be in charge, the dems will accuse them of being unamerican, racists, etc when they will try to pass any law using the new rules that dems put in in the first place.

Fine by me. The Democrats have a majority - when or IF the Republicans ever get back a majority, they can use the new rule too. Don´t care. Republicans won´t fight it and deserve to be steamrolled.

So in other words whichever party has the majority in the Senate can just change the rules at will. I thought Obama and the Senate were already doing that. And no, the Republicans will not ´use´ this. The media might criticize them. Remember when we had a majority with 50 Senators and Cheney as a tie breaker? We gave the Democrats half the committee chairmanships in the spirit of ´bipartisanship´.

Republicans will be afraid of being told their mean-spirited, so will simply allow the rules to change.

The Dems play to win, and they know a majority is where you wield power.

Republicans keep playing for principle, ideals, and the Constitution.

I say let them increase the top tax rate on the top 2%, even though it won´t produce the revenues, and stop trying to help the Democrats because it will be used against you. Let it happen, and let it flop.

After what they did in the last election with all the fraud I don´t think they are worried about the Republicans taking control of the Senate. The rules will be changed and the Republicans will just whimper and complain but will go along with it. This Republic is forever lost.

Harry just needs to threaten them, like Pelosi threatened her people into submission. Pull out the files on them .... the ones which detail illicit love affiars. Threaten to expose the holdouts. They will believe it.

If you read the article, the answer is "Not yet!" Once the newly-gained Democrats take office in January, there will be more leftists to vote lockstep with Harry Reid and fewer Republicans to oppose them. And I´m sure Harry will do his best to find a way to deny the Republicans any opportunity to obstruct the rules change.

If you do a quick Internet search for "Gwyneth Paltrow," you´ll find an onslaught of furious comments about the actress. Alhough the 41-year-old often stirs up controversy (thanks to everything from her touting her own wood-burning pizza oven to referring to her recent breakup as a "conscious uncoupling"), this latest reaction is due, in part, to a New York Post open letter to Paltrow regarding an interview she gave on the challenges of being a movie-star mom. On Wednesday, Paltrow, who announced her split from husband Chris Martin this week, told E! News, “I think it´s different when you have an

On Friday night O’Reilly stood by his words and called Lee both a “pinhead” and a “liar” in response. Having done his darndest in The Hague, Barack Obama is taking his “cast of 100s” caravan to the sands of the Saudis. Riyadh may seem a strange place to end a European tour, but Mr. Obama often does the unexpected. What he does not do when travelling, however, is deal directly with the really bad stuff. Even at The Hague, as tens of thousands of Russian troops massed on Ukraine’s border, he sought to divert attention from the calamity on Europe’s frontier. Instead, he asserted that Russia’s aggression was a sign of weakness, and Moscow would sooner or later come to

New allegations are raising additional questions about former CIA Acting Director Michael Morell´s involvement in crafting the administration´s flawed narrative on the Benghazi attack, ahead of his scheduled testimony next week on Capitol Hill. Morell is set to testify publicly for the first time on Wednesday about his role in crafting the controversial Benghazi "talking points," which initially blamed a protest for the deadly attack. The former acting director, and deputy director, was called to testify to explain potentially conflicting testimony he gave Congress about the talking points and the administration´s role. The White House took steps Friday toward issuing methane emissions regulations at hydraulic fracturing sites, a move that would slash greenhouse gas emissions in hopes of meeting President Obama´s climate goals but will invite backlash from industry. The news is a victory for environmental groups, which note that methane -- a short-lived, potent greenhouse gas that has a 20 times greater impact on climate change than carbon dioxide -- is the largest remaining unregulated greenhouse gas, accounting for 9 percent of U.S. emissions. The oil and gas industry, however, has warned that regulating methane emissions would stunt domestic energy production by raising
