The Amnesty Delusion
National Review Online, by Editorial

Original Article

Posted By:KarenJ1, 11/12/2012 10:20:17 AM

Having suffered not one but several humiliating defeats on Tuesday, Republicans are in danger of embracing “comprehensive” immigration reform — which is to say, amnesty — out of panic. The GOP does need to do better among Hispanics and other voters, but this is not the way to achieve that — and, more important, it is bad policy. A formal policy of refusing to enforce the law is not obviously the best substitute for an informal policy of refusing to enforce the law. But first, credit should be given where it is due: The Obama administration,

Comments:
The more the Republicans give in the more the Democrats will ask for. There was a Republican spokesman on Fox (I can´t remember which one) who said the "hateful" language from the far right group about closing the border, etc. was very detrimental to the party. I had everything I could do not to throw things at my TV.

How many times did I scream to Romney to reach out to this new voter demographic. The are here. You will never deport them anywhere.

Sooooooo, get them to vote for you. It´s all about the economy. The better the economy for everyone including those pesky free loaders, the better for our country. When are we going to get it. I didn´t need to lose the election to get it.

You might as well become a one party nation if we contunie to fight this losing battle. Don´t let the rats take credit for amnesty. Some of my hispanic friends voted Romney. Majority of my white frinds voted BO. I call them stupids to their face. Who you gonna shoot when you lock and load?

We all have to admit that there´s a large chunk of the GOP that is all for amnesty because it means more cheap, pliable labor for their campaign contributors and their own businesses. They like to hide behind the Democrats skirts on the issue but they crossed the aisle a long time ago on cheap labor, at home and abroad. I can´t wait for the GOP to be a distant memory like the Whigs.

Wow! One of the most clear eyed editorials that I have ever read in NRO.

Would be nice to see this as a must read as it´s probably the most important issue facing the destiny of the country. But what does that matter when you have a General playing hanky-panky with a subordinate.

Don´t worry, if the Stupid Party embraces any "path to citizenship" liberal Democrat amnesty, they will eventually be giving the liberal Democrats many millions of new socialist oriented foreign born voters and will be committing long-term political suicide.

The Stupid Party will never be able to out pander the liberal Democrats for very many of those would be legalized alien votes. The highly partisan liberal Democrats know that from historical fact.

If the liberal Democrats ever thought that there was even a slim chance that more then a very small percentage of the legalized aliens would ever have an epifinany and vote for conservative Republicans they would be calling for the illegal alien population to be deported instead.

JAY CARNEY: I remember we had some discussion during 2012 about well, is it appropriate for the president, the sitting president and candidate, to give interviews with Jon Stewart and others. And the answer was yes, again because the young voters we were trying to reach are more likely to watch The Daily Show than some other news shows. But also, I think if you look back at 2012 and the series of interviews the sitting president of the United States gave, probably the toughest interview he had was with Jon Stewart. Probably the most substantive, challenging interview Barack Obama

Facebook is unveiling a new service to let users know when a friend is close by. The company said it had consulted with privacy advocates in government ahead of Thursday´s launch, but the service nonetheless invites criticism from privacy advocates who have worried about the amount of information the social network captures about its users. People will have to opt in to the new Nearby Friends feature, and Facebook is forcing users to affirmatively choose if they want to share details about their movements. Nothing will change for users who don’t assertively turn it on, Facebook said. Jules Polonetsky, executive director of the

GENEVA – Top diplomats from the United States, European Union, Russia and Ukraine reached agreement after marathon talks Thursday on immediate steps to ease the crisis in Ukraine. The tentative agreement puts on hold -- for now at least -- additional economic sanctions the West had prepared to impose on Russia if the talks were fruitless. And that will ease international pressure both on Moscow and nervous European Union nations that depend on Russia for their energy. U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry called the deal the result of a "good day´s work" but emphasized that the words on paper

For several months now, whenever the topic of enrollment in the Affordable Care Act came up, I’ve been saying that it was too soon to tell its ultimate effects. We don’t know how many people have paid for their new insurance policies, or how many of those who bought policies were previously uninsured. For that, I said, we will have to wait for Census Bureau data, which offer the best assessment of the insurance status of the whole population. Other surveys are available, but the samples are smaller, so they’re not as good; the census is the gold standard. Unfortunately,

GOP presidential hopefuls are largely steering clear of Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy’s fight with the federal government. The showdown, which left armed militia members and feds staring each other down last week, has captivated talk radio and cable news shows, turning Bundy into a conservative cause célèbre. Yet Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and Mike Huckabee, a former Arkansas governor and 2008 presidential candidate, are the only big-name Republicans to have spoken out on the dispute so far. Tea Party favorite Sen. The additional aid was announced as fighting between Ukraine´s military and pro-Russian factions intensified in the eastern part of the country. President Obama´s budget would not place the federal debt on a downward path over the next 10 years, according to projections released by the Congressional Budget Office on Thursday. The CBO, Congress’ nonpartisan budget scorekeeper, projected that if the president’s proposals were to go into effect, federal debt held by the public would rise from $12.8 trillion at the end of fiscal 2014 to $19.9 trillion in 2024, leaving the level of debt as a share of total economic output constant, at roughly 74 percent. That would be lower than the baseline projection of 78 percent if nothing is done,

Media Matters for America is apparently resisting an effort by Service Employees International Union Local 500 to unionize its staff. Last week, the union filed a representation petition with the National Labor Relations Board, indicating that the nonprofit media watchdog organization rejected an effort by the union to organize MMFA´s staff through a Card Check election. A filing with the NLRB does not necessarily mean that the union and management are in direct confrontation. For example, although Volkswagen tacitly backed the United Auto Workers´ recent effort to organize its Chattanooga, Tenn., plant, the company still insisted on an NLRB-monitored election. But the

Casual marijuana use may come with some not-so-casual side effects. For the first time ever, researchers at Northwestern University have analyzed the relationship between casual use of marijuana and brain changes – and found that young adults who used cannabis just once or twice a week showed significant abnormalities in two important brain structures. The study’s findings, to be published Wednesday in the Journal of Neuroscience, are similar to those of past research linking chronic, long-term marijuana use with mental illness and changes in brain development. Dr. Hans Breiter, co-senior study author, said he was inspired to look at the effects of casual

When it comes to tracking the cost of Obama family vacations, there are two primary challenges. First, the Obamas are prolific jet-setters, so there are many details to track. Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. But we have been relentless in pursuit of this information. Our attorneys file the lawsuits and make our case, and our investigators pour through pages of records and crunch the numbers. And the information we’ve uncovered – information that would otherwise remain under lock and key – shows that the

Toddlers show racial bias when picking playmates, a study reveals. They also take account of how fairly others behave. Researchers tested the reaction of white 15-month-olds as toys were distributed. Two white adults divided the toys, one equally and the other unequally. Seventy per cent of the toddlers chose to play with the researcher who distributed the toys fairly. But in a second test, when one researcher favoured a white recipient over an Asian one, they picked the ‘fair’ researcher less often, the journal Frontiers in Psychology reports. And the babies are more likely to help those who share the same ethnicity, which is known as

How do you ensure that you won’t be ostracized, denounced, or fired if you are a media celebrity, captain of industry, or high public official? For some, sexist banter is certainly no problem. Stand-up comedian Bill Maher called Sarah Palin a c–t and a tw-t, but suffered no ill consequences. David Letterman joked on air that Sarah Palin’s 14-year-old daughter had had sex with Alex Rodriguez during a New York Yankees game. There was no downside to that either. President Obama tosses around “sweetie” as he wishes. No problem with that. No one believes Barack could be condescending to women.
