I read this somewhere else, but looks to be true - take a look at the red and blue map of the U.S. It is probably the case that most of the rich people live in the blue counties and likely voted for Obama. So, Republicans are fighting to prevent raising taxes on mostly rich Obama supporters. Not 100% true of course, but the generalization may have more truth to it than not.

Just vote "present". Going to the mat on this issue simply re-enforces the ´party of the rich´ reputation.

They won´t do it, of course, since their Establishment is beholden to the money of the rich.

Well...I think he´s right. Breitbart had an article a few days ago stating the the wealthiest did, in fact, vote overwhelmingly for Obama. They want to screw the country? I say it´s time we return the favor...

It´s time to give up on this and let them do it. If their followers can learn anything they will see that it was useless. Someone said "Give the people what they want until they can´t stand it any more." Sounds sensible to me. We really can´t stop it anyway.

The Demon-RATS have a mandate to raise taxes on everyone. They know it, and they will be running with it.

Don´t get me wrong, they may call the tax increases ´´fees´´ (or other terms), but there will be tax increases and they will effect all of us.

At least we know it´s coming. The rich are not going to pay. Ask France. Their new ´leader´ raised taxes on the rich to something like 70% and they are fleeing the country in droves. This has been a false argument from the beginning. $250,000 a year is far from rich. They are targeting small businesses who will either close or lay people off. The idiots do not get this.

Businesses don´t pay taxes, we all pay their taxes for them if we buy their goods or services. Raising taxes on anyone raises the overall burden on the economy.
The people targets of the tax punishment will find more ways to avoid it making the plans to increase revenue fail.

I am against higher taxes for anybody, even rich movie stars and industrialists. Taxes feed bigger government. It is naive to think that pols would use additional tax revenues to pay down debt. What Kristol should have done, indeed what we all should do is to scream at our elected representatives to cut spending.

$250k per year is rich. You cna´t retire, but it is rich. This was part of Romeny´s problem. He came across as out of touch and the media was all too happy to portray him in that manner.

Its not just that the government drains the private sector by spending too much, its that the things they use the money on are working against my self interest. If I felt like the money was used wisely, I might feel a little bit differently, but its actually harmful to me when a section 8 housing project appears down the street and the food stamp users flood into my grocery store.

A bunch of them may be Hollywood crazies, but a bunch are also small businesses. Yes, maybe the taxes will pass or 0bama will "decree" them, but republican should not help the process.

This is not a popular opinion, but I am with Kristol. You can tax every rich (anyone with a job) 100% and the deficit remains untouched. What does need to happen is to balance the move by:

-Ensuring all rich folks (whatever that is) are accounted for including and especially the hipocrites in the entertainment section (clooney, longoria, streisand, et al) who get a break from some obscure act that protects their income. BTW, boycot hollywood.

-Republicans need to demonstrate well into 2016 that inspite of these taxes nothing happened because they dems made NO concessions and we are now at 20 trillions in debt. Let the dems own that one.

-Ultimately taxes will come down as prompted by Bush.

-Any business adversely affected by increased taxes (obamacare comes to mind) should fire people at will. Fire, fire, fire, fire, fire, fire. They wanted bams, they should get bams.

This is not hard.

GOP should become the All of Nothing Party. If DNC wants to raise taxes on everyone, go ahead. If they want to raise taxes on no one, that too is fine. But make it the DNC choice.

95% of the nation couldn´t explain the difference between marginal tax rates and effective tax rates. When the public is so uninformed the argument is lost.
