Kristol: Yup, Time to Raise
Taxes on Rich People

National Review Online, by Eliana Johnson

Original Article

Posted By:KarenJ1, 11/12/2012 9:21:06 AM

Time to raise taxes on the rich. That’s according to Bill Kristol. On today’s Fox News Sunday panel, the Weekly Standard editor argued that the Republican Party should not “fall on its sword to defend a bunch of millionaires, half of whom voted Democratic and have of whom live in Hollywood and are hostile to Republican principles.”

Comments:
He should just go on over to the other side. He is just not helpful to our cause. This is the entire article with video.

Little Billy is right for a change. The optics kill Republicans. They should have agreed to a higher number than 250k when they had a chance - say $1 million - This would permit the very rich to skate anyway. The problem is spending - not taxes. Anyway, simple math will solve this problem the day interest rates rise and the econmy collapses.

The democrats can print the money, which raises taxes on everyone, or borrow it, if the Chinese will lend it, and the next generation can repay it. The Republicans should not support any tax increase or tax reform, a trap for Republicans.
Elections have consequences, we voted the Republicans into control of the House.

Why does The Stoopid Party insist on saving Dear Leader from his plans for the economy. Let Good King Barack own it.. Let him soak rich, do gooding, white liberals, let him sour his union buddies with four years of Zero job creation. The GOP will have plenty of areas to offer resistance: I.e. no new welfare/ "social net" spending; no Amnesty (which is just a ploy to score new voters for the Democraps). Oh, yeah, and fire Reince while your at. Hire Liz Cheney. Fire McConnell and hire Rubio or Rand Paul for Senate Minority Leader.

I read this somewhere else, but looks to be true - take a look at the red and blue map of the U.S. It is probably the case that most of the rich people live in the blue counties and likely voted for Obama. So, Republicans are fighting to prevent raising taxes on mostly rich Obama supporters. Not 100% true of course, but the generalization may have more truth to it than not.

Just vote "present". Going to the mat on this issue simply re-enforces the ´party of the rich´ reputation.

They won´t do it, of course, since their Establishment is beholden to the money of the rich.

That is why we need a new party.

If he´s going to advocate this, why not then immediately add ´especially rich movie stars who don´t pay their fair share´.

I´m serious.if George Clooney and Tom Hanks want to pay more, then let´s play class warfare with them as the bad guys. How fair is it that they make $10 million in 6 weeks? Why didn´t Bill Kristol aim for Warren Buffett or,the family grifters at Wal Mart? Make these people pay.

All we are doign is trying to plug the damn with our fingers and our toes.

If you look at the Red&Blue map the millionaires are on the coasts. They vote for the Dems.

The GOP should let the rate rise. Let the GOP vote "present" like Obama did or vote Yes.

Tell Grover that the party is over. We are done defending rich democrats that stab us in the back every chance they get.

Not only raise the rate but close all the loop holes, especially for Hollywood. Close the loophole that benefit Michael Moore and Bill Maher and all the rest. No more Hollywood accounting.

The Demon-RATS have a mandate to raise taxes on everyone. They know it, and they will be running with it.

Don´t get me wrong, they may call the tax increases ´´fees´´ (or other terms), but there will be tax increases and they will effect all of us.

At least we know it´s coming. I can´t wait for all those idiots that voted Demon-RAT because of all the cool ´´free stuff´´ that they were going to get, to suddenly realize that they are paying a lot more too. Of course, they will just blame it on the Republicans and vote Demon-RAT in future elections too.

The rich are not going to pay. Ask France. Their new ´leader´ raised taxes on the rich to something like 70% and they are fleeing the country in droves. This has been a false argument from the beginning. $250,000 a year is far from rich. They are targeting small businesses who will either close or lay people off. The idiots do not get this.

Businesses don´t pay taxes, we all pay their taxes for them if we buy their goods or services. Raising taxes on anyone raises the overall burden on the economy.
The people targets of the tax punishment will find more ways to avoid it making the plans to increase revenue fail.

I am against higher taxes for anybody, even rich movie stars and industrialists. Taxes feed bigger government. It is naive to think that pols would use additional tax revenues to pay down debt. What Kristol should have done, indeed what we all should do is to scream at our elected representatives to cut spending.

Its not just that the government drains the private sector by spending too much, its that the things they use the money on are working against my self interest. If I felt like the money was used wisely, I might feel a little bit differently, but its actually harmful to me when a section 8 housing project appears down the street and the food stamp users flood into my grocery store.

This is not a popular opinion, but I am with Kristol. You can tax every rich (anyone with a job) 100% and the deficit remains untouched. What does need to happen is to balance the move by:

-Ensuring all rich folks (whatever that is) are accounted for including and especially the hipocrites in the entertainment section (clooney, longoria, streisand, et al) who get a break from some obscure act that protects their income. BTW, boycot hollywood.

-Republicans need to demonstrate well into 2016 that inspite of these taxes nothing happened because they dems made NO concessions and we are now at 20 trillions in debt. Let the dems own that one.

-Ultimately taxes will come down as prompted by Bush.

-Any business adversely affected by increased taxes (obamacare comes to mind) should fire people at will. Fire, fire, fire, fire, fire, fire. They wanted bams, they should get bams.

This is not hard.

Author’s Note: This week, capitulating to Islamic-supremacist agitation led by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), Brandeis University reneged on its announced plan to present an honorary degree to Ayaan Hirsi Ali, the heroic human-rights activist. In my 2010 book, The Grand Jihad, I devoted a chapter to the origins and purposes of CAIR, its roots in the Muslim Brotherhood’s Hamas-support network, and its aim to silence critics of Islamic supremacism. In light of the continuing success of this campaign — despite a federal terrorism-financing prosecution that exposed CAIR’s unsavory background — it is worth revisiting that history. What follows

Despite the testimony of GM CEO Mary Barra that the company "acted without hesitation" to address the ignition switch problems that served as the basis for the latest recall of millions of vehicles, emails show that GM failed to address product problems, some of which Barra herself seemed fully aware of, at least as far back as 2011. The company, often derided as "Government Motors" because of the billions of tax dollars infused into it by President Obama, has been under fire this month because of ignition switch problems linked to dozens of crashes and perhaps as many as 13 deaths.

SAN DIEGO, CA -- Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton spoke via satellite to attendees of San Diego’s Western Healthcare Leadership Academy on Apr. 11, just days after canceling plans to attend in person. Two protest groups gathered outside the San Diego Convention Center for the conference, but for two different reasons. While playing a recording of the folk tune “Medicare for All,” the group spoke to passing pedestrians for approximately two hours. The other protest, directly in front of the Convention Center,

A rapid shift to wind and solar power is needed if the world is to avoid catastrophic global warming, the United Nations warns in a crucial report today. Emissions of greenhouse gases need to be cut by up to 70 per cent before 2050 to control climate change, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) says. ‘Large-scale changes in energy systems’ are required, with coal power stations to be switched off and replaced by wind and solar. And the transformation needs to be made in the next 15 years or controlling climate change will become increasingly harder and more expensive. The report was published
