Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) “The fact that he’s resigned and had an affair has nothing to do with whether he will be subpoenaed to Congress. I hope we don’t have to subpoena a four star general and a former CIA director. I would hope he would come voluntarily but if he won’t he will be subpoenaed. And none of what happened today is an offense to a subpoena… He’s either a witness in our case in chief or he’s gonna be a rebuttal witness if Susan Rice and others blame him for their failure of intelligence and failure of information.
100% correct. His testimony is an integral part of the investigation, irregardless of an affair. Since when has being caught having an affair exempted someone from testifying? The American People will not stand for this.
With this administration, DOJ, SOS, complicit House and Senate Dems and spineless girlie-men Repubs, this ain´t going no where. He will retire in reletive luxury with a ginormous pension from military and the fed. govn´t, plus all of the perks that go with being a general.
The corruption and cover up of this administration in countless of criminal conduct out does the corruption in South and Central America and Africa combined.
Or what? Huh? What are you going to do cry? All he has to say is that it is an issue of national security and he cannot talk about it in any capacity because .... wait for it .... he has been debriefed and no long has any security clearance. Neat how that works. And if you think that spineless, oversized emo oompaloompa Boehner has that testicular fortitude to do anything but cry, you´ve been into the Obama stash. So just shut your piehole and be and good little beltway parasite.
Have no idea what #12 just said. Petraeus is under no obligation to protect Obama and Co. and stating facts on who said or did what regarding sending help to Benghazi doesn´t break any security. It might even get Patraeus off the hook.
I have posted previously that the deal is done between Petraeus and President Zero. Petraeus will take the bullet for Benghazi, and Zero will give him a presidential pardon for any crimes that may have been committed. He is the firewall for Zero, and Hillary may have outed Petraeus. She never did like him. Remember the senate hearing? "suspension of disbelief" which was essentially calling Petraeus a liar? That was hillary in action.
My take on this...He gets subpoenad, gets before congress and protects Obama,he becomes a hero for the left.He will be forgiven for the affair, even lauded as courageous and goes on the MSM as their new darling. He portrays the Republicans as evil and politicizing the death of the ambassador. The left will somehow skillfully meld the affair into the hearings and presto! Those republicans are at again, recalling Clinton and K Starr.
The left will masterfully juxtapose this against the so called fiscal cliff and portray the republicans as putting politics first and not the country.Obama´s answer to all these, even if Petraeus nails him is.."I need to get back to work for the people" now excuse me.
This whole situation is weird. We get this announcement out of the blue that Gen. Petraeus is resigning due to an affair with his biographer, but in true Øbama Regime fashion the news is announced on a Friday afternoon news dump before the weekend. Øbama seems to have some kind of weird control over anyone who might thwart his plans. First we had the traitor Justice Roberts turn into a rabid Liberal supporting Øbamacare, then we have Chris Christie hugging and kissing Øbama in front of all the cameras right before the election. Don´t count on Petraeus saying anything that would point to any wrongdoing by pea-brain Barry. Petraeus seems to have drunk a couple of gallons of Øbama koolaid recently. He´ll keep mum on what really went down in Benghazi. I´m waiting for crying-man Boehner to pull a Justice Roberts any minute now when it comes to new taxes. Isn´t Kabuki theater wonderful?
Gowdy should be a rising star in the GOP.But Boehner is a goodole boy network type and will give chairmanships to to dunces like Buck McKeon(sp?) and the other guy from Mich.,can´t think of his name off hand.
My guess is Boehner would have to approve calling the general in any form and he wouldn´t dare.
He will be asked questions while under oath. If he refuses citing "national security", he will be required to testify in private session. If he refuses he will be cited for contempt and sent to prison.
Yes, you send a 4-star to prison for contempt when he´s guilty of it. Yes you do.
It´s one thing to cheat on your wife or husband. But QUITE another for an American general to knowingly abandon his men to their doom and then avoid all questions. He should be stripped of rank, dishonorably discharged, and have all retirement benefits withdrawn.
This means nothing. Boehner already had a conference call reported in detail by the NY Times to subdued GOP after the election. Boehner told the GOP they lost the election badly and now must get along with Obama. The GOP had no intention whatever that Obama admin. would be punished for mass murders in Fast and Furious--none. An occasional sound bite is thrown to us as a crumb. The GOP got all they wanted which was an excuse to tell the Silent Majority to go back to being Silent. These men are beneath contempt to me.

I can´t believe the denial (bless you all, seriously) of some of my fellow Ldotterrs. Especially after this rigged election.
Gen. P is now a private citizen. Supeona or not, he does not have the clearance to testify. Then there is the fifth.
Think about it. This is the Chicago Way. His family was probably threatened too.
There will be no testimony. We are under facist rule now.
Kaffee: "You think I can´t subpoena Markinson?" Ross: "You won´t find him. Do you know what Markinson did for his first 22 years in the Marines? Counterintelligence. Markinson is gone. There is no Markinson."
A crusty old lineman who was a mentor during my apprenticeship was known to say, "talk´s cheap, but it takes money to by whiskey". After that, good deeds or owning a mistake came to be known as "buying whiskey".
Seems to me it´s time for the General to buy some whiskey.
Here´s the deal. If supeoned, Patraeus can´t talk about anything. HE IS A CIVILIAN WHO HAS SIGNED CONFIDENTIALITY AGREEMENTS. Divulging anything classified in this status subjects him to prison. Just like the administration is persecuting the Navy Seals.
#15 is on to something. Remember when Hillary said the "suspension of disbelief"? Did Hillary know about the "affair" back then, perhaps? Maybe she was relating Petraeus´s affair to Bill and Monica, but didn´t feel she could "out" Petraeus without further proof. Probably not but one does wonder.
Only half of the American people care and without the Press I´m afraid that isn´t enough. Four Americans were murdered as the Obama Administration watched and not a one of them will pay any price. It leaves me sad and sick to my core.
Rep. Gowdy is delusional. What Gowdy seeks will never happen.
Ya´ll are failing to recognize what´s actually going on. You could ask Senator John Tower and he´d tell you if you could seance him. You could seance Clark Feister. Or Vince Foster. Especially William Colby. The list is long, long, long.
Why would Petraeus fare any better than Gaddafi with Obama. Supporting Obama does not guarantee that he will not throw you under the bus. I would be very wary of getting Obama off the Benghazi hook while relying on his promise of a pardon.
If he blew the top off all this while testifying to Congress, as in fresh air is the best antiseptic, could anyone really "get" him? With this Congress & the Republicans we have, possibly I´m sorry to say.
Being a civilian and therefore no longer having a security clearance doesn´t protect him from testifying. Regardless of his status he would not be allowed to disclose secrets - else ever spy could just resign and be free to disclose everything they know. But he could be required to testify in closed session under the right circumstances. Signing confidentiality agreements would have no effect on his subpoenaed testimony. Think about it. If it were so then every criminal would have confidentiality agreements in their back pocket at the ready to protect against being ratted out. And there is no Fifth Amendment unless there is the potential of a crime, which yet remains to be seen, and, if there is, it can be simply overcome by granting him immunity for his testimony. No, there are ways for him to testify if he wants to and possibly ways not to if he doesn´t. It may not be pretty if he has blood on his hands but if he wants to put country first he can.
I read a comment on a different site that really raised my eyebrow regarding the ´who knew what when´. Is it possible all this info regarding his affair was being held back to ensure testimony on Libya coincided correctly with the WH - and rather than give in or comply he outed himself?
Fox Cable News article states the President only learned of this situation Wed, after the election. Overseas websites state the Administration would have known about the situation weeks ago. The ONLY news media that we can trust appear to be outside the U.S. General P´s wife was given a cosy job recently. The CEO of Lockheed-Martin recently resigned for the same reason that Gen P did. But the President knew nothing. If that is true, he runs the most incompetent Administration in history, and if it is a lie, then it is all another scandalous cover-up. One can assume, just thinking, blackmail, pay-offs, and even worse, the "T" word.
Is it so hard to figure out why Obozo had to fire the head of the CIA Petraeus who knew the story & would not lie and would not take the blame for letting the embassy employees die, especially the military seals ... the affair is just normal Obozo style misdirection for Benghazi and Obozo´s voting machine fraud that got him re-elected.
The aftermath of GOP losses seems to always result in absolute descent into the kind of reaction one expects resembles ranting children playing the same blame games just like their counterparts. Attack anyone who is accused before facts are weeded out from the political dust. yell about standing up to the offenders while expecting someone else to pull the wagon. We lost the election because we failed to keep it honest and we failed the nation because we don´t want to take the responsibility. If you don´t like the leadership in the house demand a few resignations. name calling without action is just so the voice flitting on the wind.

Dream Defenders Executive Director Philip Agnew has said he knew the group would have to “get comfortable with being uncomfortable” during its now-13-day sit in at the Capitol. The college activists reached a new level of “uncomfortable” over the weekend – the group said Capitol police stopped food from coming into the building, leaving a group of about 50 protesters with little more than snack items and a few cups of water. The Department of Justice civil rights unit sent to Sanford, Florida in 2012 to mediate the anti-George Zimmerman protests has a history of putting racial advocacy ahead of its mandated duties, according to a former head of the unit. “At CRS headquarters, we (meaning I) regularly had to warn or take corrective action against career employees for acting as advocates instead of mediators,” Ondray Harris, the former director of the DOJ’s Community Relations Service (CRS), told The Daily Caller. CRS was the unit deployed to Sanford in 2012 to oversee anti-Zimmerman protests.

In the charade that became the trial of George Zimmerman in the death of Trayvon Martin, and in the continuing aftermath of the verdict, there was one thing the American people didn’t get from much of the national broadcast media: fairness. In the hours of continuous coverage that I monitored and recorded, I couldn’t believe the lack of balance in coverage.(Snip)Some news organizations seemed to resist the temptation of balanced reporting from the onset. What happened to investigating stories thoroughly? What happened to balancing a report with all points of view? And what happened to keeping agendas and
George Zimmerman, who has not been seen publicly since being acquitted in the murder of Trayvon Martin earlier this month, surfaced last week to rescue an unidentified driver trapped in an overturned truck in Florida, police said Monday. Sanford Police Department Capt. Jim McAuliffe told Fox News that Zimmerman, 29, was identified by a crash victim as the man who pulled him from the mangled vehicle last week. “George Zimmerman pulled me out,” firefighters were told by the unidentified driver, according to McAuliffe.
I have to admit, I’m stumped. Either something fairly important happened yesterday in Washington, or as readers of The Dallas Morning News might say, “I have no idea what you mean.” News reports, mostly from the right-of-center media, would indicate a 50-year IRS employee, recently retired as a tax specialist, testified before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. Carter Hull, we’re told, said the inappropriate screening of tea party-related applications reached at least the office of the IRS chief counsel, one of two political appointees in the building. You remember the IRS scandal, right?
The brother of Trayvon Martin, whose shooting death by George Zimmerman gained international attention over the past year, is currently serving as an intern for Rep. Frederica Wilson, D-Fla., her office confirmed to NBC News. A Florida jury found Zimmerman not guilty of of 2nd degree murder and manslaughter on July 13. Zimmerman says he shot the teen in self defense. In 2005 the Florida legislator enacted statute 776.032. “Immunity from criminal prosecution and civil action for justifiable use of force.” This immunity statute is often erroneously referred to as Florida’s Stand-Your-Ground (SYG) law, even by lawyers, judges, and law professors who ought to know better.(Snip)In fact, SYG is a different statute entirely, 776.013(3). Although many states have adopted some form of self-defense immunity law, Florida’s is remarkably broad in many respects. It provides not only immunity from both civil liability and criminal prosecution, but even from arrest in instances that lack probable cause
In the aftermath of the acquittal of George Zimmerman, Eric Holder, Al Sharpton and Ben Jealous of the NAACP are calling on the black community to rise up in national protest. Yet they know — and Barack Obama, whose silence speaks volumes, knows — nothing is going to happen. "Stand-Your-Ground" laws in Florida and other states are not going to be repealed. George Zimmerman is not going to be prosecuted for a federal "hate crime" in the death of Trayvon Martin. The result of all this ginned-up rage that has produced vandalism and violence
President Barack Obama’s half-brother, Malik Obama, had a close relationship with Libyan dictator Muammar Gadhafi that continued from the 1980s until the dictator’s death. A photograph obtained by the Daily Caller shows Malik smiling with Gadhafi. Photos of Gadhafi from the time period appear to place the photo somewhere between 1987-1990, around the same time as the 1986 Berlin discotheque bombing and the Lockerbie bombing in 1988, for both of which Libya was responsible. Obama was a vocal supporter of the Libyan dictator and once interceded with his brother on Gadhafi’s behalf during the Libyan civil war,
WASHINGTON — White House Press Secretary Jay Carney dismissed a question Wednesday regarding the safety of George Zimmerman and his parents as “ridiculous.” Asked by The Daily Caller during the daily press briefing whether the president intends to take any action to protect the Zimmermans — in light of the many death threats the family has received — Carney laughed and said, “Well, I think I would refer you to Florida authorities. I’m not aware of that story. But, you know, the president has called for echoing the statements of Trayvon Martin’s family — for calm and reflection
Conservative bloggers went wild Monday when they got wind of the Congressional Black Caucus’ suggestion that President Obama pick Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee of Houston for the post of Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. Rich Cooper, avid blogger for Security Debrief, responded to the news of the Jackson Lee recommendation in a post by saying, “Apparently, it is not a joke. For reasons that baffle any sense of reality, it is a serious gesture on the part of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) to encourage President Obama to nominate Rep. Jackson Lee

In an interview on National Public Radio (NPR), House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said her new agenda for women will give mothers access to day care so they can “earn without carrying the burden of child care.” During the interview, aired on Weekend Edition Sunday, Pelosi spoke about her newly announced agenda, which is on her website, and is titled, “When Women Succeed, America Succeeds: An Economic Agenda for Women and Families,” a plan that includes universal pre-school and access to day care for working women, and an increase in the minimum wage.
Many low-income families receive government assistance to help them purchase food and housing. Diapers are another story, a new study suggests. In what they are calling the first peer-reviewed study to quantify diaper need, Yale University researchers have found nearly a third of mothers cannot afford to purchase their infants diapers, raising health risks for not only babies but for moms who become stressed over the finances. "Notably absent from the antipoverty efforts targeting families is an essential staple for the health of children, diapers," wrote the researchers, led by Dr. Megan Smith,

Karl Rove and more than one hundred Republican donors sent a letter to Republican members of Congress on Tuesday, urging them to pass a comprehensive immigration reform bill that would include, among other provisions, granting "legal status" to illegal aliens who meet certain criteria. Anticipating that lawmakers will face resistance to the bill when they go home for the August recess, the letter marks the escalation of a campaign in which Republican leaders and donors are pressuring House Republicans to act on an immigration reform bill.
President Obama has been rolling up his sleeves campaigning across the country delivering a surreal stump speech message supposedly aimed at the middle class: big government works, Obamacare is manna from heaven, the wave of recent scandals are “phony” figments of the imagination, and all economic problems are the fault of the Republicans. Conveniently, he leaves out the bankruptcy of Detroit, a city run by his own party for more than half a century. His message is so stale and unconvincing, that even The New York Times and Washington Post have noticed. Both papers, usually loyal to Obama, remarked that
