It is time to shut the government down. I have a child in the military and if I have to support her to get her through a shut down, I will. The Republicans need to stand firm. They have been snookered twice already by promises of tax cuts that have never materialized. If they have to spend some of what is left from Romney's war chest to tell the American sheeple that we are broke and the gravy train is over, then do it.

We need to stop expecting the Republicans to do differently than past behavior indicates - CAVE. Then, of course, they will say they did no such thing. Boehner's FIRST appearance showed he will not stand up to Obama. We can't fix this until we deal with things as they are not as we have kept hoping they will be.

He can get screwed. They elected a guy with no interest in governing, brokering deals or compromise (unless it's your compromise). The only things he's good at are demagoguing, lecturing or finger pointing.

Obama is ready now to punish the country for something he has held secret for a long time. We are colonizers and in his view we need to be punished for it.

Boehner, IMHO, should address the American people; "Elections have consequences, therefore even though I disagree with the president and think taxing the rich will drive the economy into the tank, I will not stand in the way of his plans." Prove the point once and for all!

AGAIN with the class warfare. The man is a freaking broken record. And he has no new ideas -- in fact, no ideas at all -- about how to help the economy. None. He may have won (via cheating, I'm convinced) the election, but he's still a loser.

Give him what he wants and even more. Let the Bush tax cuts expire on everyone not just the rich. Go for it. We are already a falling off the cliff and the sooner we go the easier the landing. Go for the gold!

His proposed tax increase on the "wealthy" wound amount to a pimple on an elephant's --- and EVERYONE knows it, yet he insists on it, while asking for compromise.

Additionally, a tax increase on those earning 250k would be the foot in the door, with much more to come shortly thereafter.

I want the people that voted for this pig to suffer. I want their taxes to go up so they can't afford whatever their craven little hearts desire. If the Federal Government seized all assets of the 1% "Whitey" money, it would cover a few weeks of Government spending.

Increased taxes in whatever form won't put a dent in Federal Debt.

I tend to agree with the let it go. The GOP should announce loudly that they think that the agenda is wrong and will make matters worse but the voters wanted the Democrat policies so they get them. Any failures of these policies belong totally to the Democrats. Then abstain from voting.

Note to Boehner - your House team also won reelection, so ignore Valerie Jarrett and her puppet, Knucklehead Obama. These two are delusional, deceptive and devisive, and they do not have the best interests of the country in mind.

I am all for standing firm against this Marxist demagogue, as are many others on this board. But the problem with the notion of letting the Won own this mess as he takes us over the cliff is that the MSM will never hold him responsible for the resulting disaster, and he knows it.

So, look at things from Boehner's perspective. He's got two options:

1). Go along with Obama to retain lower tax rates for those not making a helluva lot of money and in many cases are struggling, knowing all along that you are further strangling the job creation engine, or

2) Stand firm, watch EVERYONE go over the fiscal cliff (Obama's not bluffing) and be crucified for it by an MSM which, like it or not, drives public opinion.

That is where we are, friends, and shrill calls to replace Boehner are futile and miss the larger point. The other side has all the weapons.

Whatever happens, don't simply hang it on a couple of politicians. We are in this pickle for a number of reasons which have grown over decades.

Every single elected Republican needs to on every single media outlet they can and point out Obama said he would reach out and compromise but instead he lied. Also they need to point out over and over and over that taxing the rich won't produce revenue!

The unfortunate joke of this is folks like Romney, who make their money from Captial Gains and donate mega bucks really won't be impacted.

The Soros and Buffets don't earn sallaries. Unless they stop differentiating between wages and dividends/cap gains there will always be a dicrepancy.

In my view, there are two reasons for lower rates on cap gains: 1) taxes have ALREADY been paid; 2) more importantly, to offset for the effects of INFLATION, and we'll see lots of that soon enough.

Raising taxes didn't work toooo well for Calif & Illinois...they are more in debt...the more $$$$ you give DC the more they spend.
