Lucianne Goldberg on living life
in American political history

Washington Times, by Joseph Cotto

FLORIDA — The American political arena is at once intriguing, complex, and mesmerizing. From the corridors of power in Washington to the studios of talk radio hosts, it can honestly be said that there is never a dull moment. Lucianne Goldberg has been a witness to many of modern American history’s defining moments. As an operative of the Democratic Party, she was afforded a behind the scenes look at Lyndon B. Johnson’s vice presidential nomination. Less than one decade later, she became a spy for the Nixon campaign, working behind the lines of George McGovern’s ill-fated

Comments:
Look what I found! What a nice article about our extremely dedicated and hard working leader. I loved the answer concerning the "right wing" description. How appropriate.

In the very early days here I donated when I could and received a very nice thank you from Miss Lucianne... and Joshua helped me with a posting problem not long before his passing...very nice people, ALL the Goldbergs!...and this family that has been created here is amazing...we learn so much from each other...Thank you Lucianne and this extended group of friends...

Some people are leaders and some are followers. Thank you Lucianne for your leadership.

I am privileged to know our beloved Lucianne, who is an unsung (except to L.Dotters)American heroine, and a shining light to us in these dark days. I cannot imagine not having this site to keep me sane. When the power went out with Sandy, I was having withdrawal symptoms. Thank you, dear Lucianne , for your spunk, humor , courage, insouciance , intellect, patriotism, brilliance and strength. It is clear to see Jonah doesn't get his talent off the door knob. Long may you reign!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

Reply 107 - Posted by: dot66, 11/8/2012 11:43:03 PM     (No. 9001339)

I treasure this site so much that I still have my registration e-mail from May 19, 2000. And yes, in years when I've been able to donate, I've received a hand-written thank-you note as well. (Can you imagine ever receiving such a thing from a liberal?) The only days I've failed to read have been ones when I've been nowhere near a computer; if at another family member's home, they're reading too and just leave it up for me. I stagger in first thing in the morning with coffee, and at night when my eyes seem no longer connected to my brain, I stagger to bed. I don't post as often as I used to, but only because of no time. Lucianne has indeed kept us sane and civil. And yes...the idea of Lucianne with Greg Gutfeld simply blows me away! Starting a campaign, anyone?

Thank you and your tireless staff from the bottom of our hearts!

Mrs. Goldberg, Ms. Lucianne:

Love you and respect you immensely.

Such weak and yet loaded questions posed to someone who's seen so much of history, from serving in the JFK administration (and enough with the disparagement there, really) through the blue dress time, and being the founder and charge of this site in the midst of so many storms and in grief, both public and private. Most importantly, being the mother of Joshua and Jonah. We treasure them both, always.

You are our light and wind forward, no matter the election, no matter the results. And we are the ones who think the office of the president matters, that you dress for it, you honor it by being prompt to all encounters with it, and you leave it better than what was left you.

No flip-flops, no t-shirts. You revere the office. That will be missing, again, for the next four years, unless the Mayans were correct.

And I still loathe Brabra, too. (Brabra intentional)

For Lucianne:

"She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come".
Proverbs 31:25

"When she speaks, her words are wise, and she gives instructions with kindness".
Proverbs 31:26

Thank you, dear Lucianne. You are deeply respected and dearly loved.

I missed out on this yesterday, but, even late, I congratulate Lucianne Goldberg on creating this wonderful refuge for us, the like-minded. We are so fortunate to have her and to be able to participate.

I, too, miss funny, smart Joshua. But he's here in our memory.

Oh Miss Lucianne, how grateful I am for your website! Now added to my collection of favorite quotes is this gem from you summing up the Conservative position so nicely: "God, family, flag, small government and being left alone to live one's life within the law".

God bless you, your family, your staff, and all the ones here who help make our lives a bit more bearable in these times.

Having lived in NY my entire life, and now still living in the state but in East Hampton, my husband and I are never star struck. But, we had the privilege of meeting you once at a book discussion for John Podhoretz's Bush Country on the Upper West Side. We were star struck then and continue to be so, now. Even more, you and Rush and our fellow LDotters, provide us with sanity and hope in these very troubling times. God Bless you The Divine MS. G.

Thank you for all you do to help us retain some sanity in a crazy world. You are truly a part of my life and I recommend your site as often as I can to people I meet. (Which may be partly why we can't get on the L.com political roundtables ;~] )

For what it's worth, I think JFK chose LBJ for the same reason obama chose hillary to be on his cabinet.... keeping his political enemies close and stop the troublemaking! And in both cases it worked.

What a wonderful interview: intelligence and grace personified.
One of the crazier things the leftists have done was to create the femi-nazis. I agree with you, Ms. L, I know I can do what men do (I joined the Navy), but I like being treated special. I like men opening doors and carrying things for me.
Thank you for all you and yours do, it makes a difference for those of us you host here.

I think what is even more important than me finding this site years ago, is that I have been able to introduce my children to conservatism because of you. Creating a place where so many like-minded individuals can gather makes it so very easy to show young minds that it doesn't have to be the way it is...

"...Heaven still hasn't had a phone line installed yet." But Sidney can read this thread.

You, Lady, wife of Sidney, Mom to Joshua and Jonah, a daily inspiration to us all, a cute young girl who "got" the Hop Bird, you, like him, are "turtles all the way down."

And yes, I'm crying as I type this.

Lucianne Goldberg is an American treasure. This site has been my political lifeline and home page for years. The posters are informative, serious, and also hilarious at times. Thanks, Lucianne, for sharing your wit and intelligence with us and giving us a place of comfort to come to when enduring all the political storms. I was especially glad that I could suffer through election night with fellow posters.

What can be said about our gracious hostess that hasn't already been said? You are the reason I got internet access in 1999 and I still remember the thrill of coming to the site the very first time. Posters became treasured web friends and I valued their wisdom immensely. I appreciate that Lucianne and staff keeps this a civilized oasis in a crazy world. Miss Luci always knows when we need a thread to vent, a recipe swap to face the holidays and a warm place to land when life is tough. Thank you for being you.

“,,, 17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” ~ James 1:17

And so it is with Lucianne, using her God-given gifts in a generous and compassionate spirit to provide a haven for people to share the joys and sorrows of our nation and the world. To face natural or man-made disasters, as well as powerful forces determined to transform our nation. Words fail to express the admiration and appreciation many of us harbor for this lady. God bless you, Lucianne.

1)If I could, I would repost all that has been said above, because I agree.
2)Didn't see this yesterday as I was also in mourning
3)Still haven't watched news
4)Agree with poster #100-would love to know what name Tony Snow posted under
5)Now--if I may interject some, what I consider bad things to say-I am terrified that this site, others somewhat similar but not as good, and some talk radio favorites--are going to be targeted by the Hated One. And they will be removed. We have to come up with some means of communication. It's a long horse ride from Boston (Mr. Revere) to Gig Harbor WA (our home now), notifying all the patriots between.

Dittoes what Straitpath and others have said. I love this site so much. I came here when I was sobbing about the election returns...both this year and in 2008. I came to rejoice when W won the re-election in 2004. You keep me sane,Lucianne and L-dotters. Lucianne you gave the BEST definition of conservatism I've ever heard in the article. And I loved how you wouldn't accept the reporter's premise in his questions to you. God bless you, L, and thank you for the life line you give others.

I have been an Ldotter for a very long time and this site has gotten me through many rough days with our increasingly corrupt opposition.

This is a place to find hope. Thanks Lucianne.

Like so many posters today, I'm still in mourning for our country, and just got to this article today. Thank you Mrs. G & staff for keeping this over an extra day.

I read all the posts too. We are a family of kindred spirits. (PS: did you notice that writer Alicia Colon - #23 - posted the sweetest note?)

I do so wish Joseph Cotto/Washington Times, would have used the photo here on the site of Mrs. G in her Breitbart tee shirt.

As for Mrs. G -- she has always been a gracious lady to me. Her prayers... and her bravery here on the site are a blessing to me and us all.

Last PS: #135 -- I thing you were referring to the 'whore squirrels.' To the uninitiated: do a Search on 'whore squirrel Lucianne.com'.

I want to add my sincere appreciation to Lucianne, too, for all she has done, for so many years. I used to love when she came on the old Drudge TV show. She´s the type of woman I hope my daughters can someday become. Would love to meet her, but until then I will always count her as a friend for introducing me to so many of my fellow l.dotters.

I am thankful that Lucianne gives us Christians a voice. I have had many responses through the years, thanking me for standing up for God´s Word.

I pray often for Lucianne, for she has proved herself worthy and I know God is very proud of her and one day she will hear Him say "Welcome, good and faithful servant!"

I also pray for the staff at Lucianne, for their appropriate cartoons (always in good taste)and those lovely pictures of animals showing US what living is all about - enjoying and participating in daily activities that bring a smile and a laugh to those willing to share in their activities.

May this Thanksgiving and Christmas season be a special time where we celebrate God (Jesus) and our families that He has given us.

Lucianne Goldberg has been faithful throughout the years, beginning by standing up for honesty/truth. She is a model for the younger women to imitate.

Blessings every day to Lucianne, who stood up for righteousness during the Clinton administration and God has honored that, as do we who daily continue to share God´s truth and our integrity as we respond to the news of the day.

Too often the liberal media either lies or just ignores what is vital and important for our country´s betterment.

May Lucianne be blessed with many more good years, drawing more into the truth, sharing her love to those willing to receive.

Ever onward!

DENVER — Colorado sheriffs upset with gun restrictions adopted in the aftermath of last year’s mass shootings filed a federal lawsuit Friday, challenging the regulations as unconstitutional. The lawsuit involves sheriffs from 54 of Colorado’s 64 counties, most representing rural, gun-friendly areas of the state. The sheriffs say the new state laws violate Second Amendment protections that guarantee the right to keep and bear arms. Opponents are criticizing the lawsuit as political maneuvering. The filing targets Colorado laws that limit the size of ammunition magazines and expand background checks. The regulations

WASHINGTON – Jay Devereaux hadn’t paid much attention to the daily drumbeat of partisan politics in D.C. He wasn’t a Washington nerd, and didn’t know who said what during congressional hearings -- nor did he care. But when news broke that the government was using taxpayer money to bail out Wall Street banks, he started paying attention and didn’t like what he was hearing. So the Florida father and information technology specialist decided to form a group, Unite in Action, to educate people in his area about the issues, he said.

First Lady Michelle Obama has expanded her anti-obesity campaign to museums, enlisting them to offer “healthy food options,” and change their menus. Mrs. Obama’s “Let’s Move!” initiative is now calling for museums, zoos, gardens, science and technology centers to “join the call to action,” to decrease obesity among children. The first lady is recruiting these institutions to join the “Let’s Move! Museums and Gardens” project because of their power to “influence real and sustained behavior change” on the eating habits of kids. “With their impressive reach and great potential for impact, museums and gardens can launch community

During a House Ways and Means Committee hearing today, Rep. Aaron Schock, R-Ill., grilled outgoing IRS commissioner Steven Miller about the IRS targeting a pro-life group in Iowa. "Their question, specifically asked from the IRS to the Coalition for Life of Iowa: ‘Please detail the content of the members of your organization’s prayers,’" Schock declared. “Would that be an inappropriate question to a 501 c3 applicant?” asked Schock. “The content of one’s prayers?” “It pains me to say I can’t speak to that one either,” Miller replied. After Schock pressed him further, Miller explained that although

WASHINGTON — Congressional Republicans, not resting with the Internal Revenue Service scandal, are moving to broaden the matter to an array of tax malfeasances and “intimidation tactics” they hope will ensnare the White House. Republican charges range from the clearly questionable to the seemingly specious, and they grow by the day. On Friday, lawmakers sought to tie the I.R.S. matter to the implementation of President Obama’s health care law, which will rely heavily on the agency. Whether they succeed holds significant ramifications for Mr. Obama,

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services says it wants as many as 20 percent of its workers to "telework," use an "alternative work schedule," or do both, in order to "reduce green house gas emissions," decrease "employee stress," and give these government workers more time for "planning and preparing healthy meals." So says one of the HHS "performance measures" detailed in an appendix to the department´s latest strategic plan. HHS´s performance measure "4.D.05" says: "Increase the percent employees on telework or on Alternative Work Schedule." Telework means working from home via phone and computer.

Bloodletting, in the form of firings, dismissals, resignation, and expulsions, is a tribal rite in political Washington. It is most often used by the powerful on anyone less powerful as a symbolic sacrifice. Steven Miller, the now former acting commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service, is the latest victim of ritual sacrifice. This week the Obama White House demanded his resignation to demonstrate the president’s “anger” at news that the IRS targeted conservative groups applying for tax-exempt status for added review and slow approval. Next, we’ll watch as Congress takes up the bloodletting knife.

However, in April, she told "Entertainment Tonight" that her bangs were getting "irritating." "The bangs are a day-by-day proposition. They´re starting to grow out, getting a little irritating," she said.

At face value, there shouldn’t be anything wrong with a Democratic member of Congress admonishing recently departed IRS acting commissioner Steven Miller for allowing agents to target conservative groups under his watch. But when that congressman is Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-NY), who was found guilty of 11 ethics violations, including neglecting to pay taxes on his Dominican Republic vacation villa in 2010, things gets a little more tricky. Rangel was questioning Miller during Friday’s House Ways and Means Committee hearing when he came to the conclusion that the IRS had acted inappropriately when it actively targeted Tea Party

Obama administration officials who were in key positions on Sept. 11, 2012, acknowledge that a range of mistakes were made the night of the attacks on the U.S. missions in Benghazi, and in messaging to Congress and the public in the aftermath. The officials spoke to CBS News in a series of interviews and communications under the condition of anonymity so that they could be more frank in their assessments. They do not all agree on the list of mistakes and it's important to note that they universally claim that any errors or missteps did not cost lives and reflect "incompetence rather than malice or cover up.

In the wake of one of the worst abuses of government power in recent history, many are rushing to frame the Internal Revenue Service scandal as simply an attack on conservative activists. That view risks creating a partisan political football and misses a fundamentally scarier abuse that exceeds the scandals of Watergate or any other prior government abuse. The IRS has admitted that since May 2010 it targeted grassroots-conservative organizations that had applied for tax-exempt status, unfairly subjecting them to rigorous scrutiny due to their political leanings. Such groups were told they were required to comply with IRS requests,

Lew said that while President Obama is willing to discuss plans to reduce the nation´s deficit with Congress, those talks must be kept separate from any effort to raise the nation´s debt cap.

House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) formally demanded that retired ambassador Thomas Pickering submit to being deposed by the committee next Thursday. A healthcare provider has sued the Internal Revenue Service and 15 of its agents, charging they wrongfully seized 60 million medical records from 10 million Americans. The name of the provider is not yet known, United Press International said. But Courthouse News Service said the suit claims the agency violated the Fourth Amendment in 2011, when agents executed a search warrant for financial data on one employee – and that led to the seizure of information on 10 million, including state judges. The search warrant did not specify that the IRS could take medical information, UPI said.

There was a running joke in the fall of 2008 that John McCain should simply re-air Hillary Clinton’s “3 a.m. phone call” ad, which highlighted Barack Obama’s lack of experience and meager knowledge of world affairs, and just tack on “I’m John McCain, and I approve this message” at the end of the ad. The point was that thanks to the bitter primary battle between the Clintons and Obama, Democrats had already developed the most effective lines of attack against Obama, and Republicans needed only to nod their heads in agreement.
