What the editorial boards are saying about Obama's future

| Editorial boards across the nation weighed in with their endorsements for president in the weeks leading up to the Nov. 6 election. The Opinion L.A. blog rounded up a few of these political endorsements to show the range in support for President Obama versus the enthusiasm for Republican challenger Mitt Romney. Now that the election is finally -- mercifully! -- over and Obama has won reelection, here’s a look at what many of those editorial boards were saying Wednesday.

Start out with the premise of blaming Bush, I.e. problems of 2008, it would seem to me they want cover for the disaster of the next four years. Obama couldn't overcome what those republicans did to wreck the economy.

Not one of these 'papers' is dealing in reality. Obama hates the Congress; won't work within our Constitutional framework; will continue to act outside the law in an Imperial Presidency. Will any of these 'papers' stand up to him in a second term? No.

He might as well send Congress home and save the expense to spend on Michelle's vacations and the next $4750/a plate state dinner. He overrides any Congressional legislation and hands power to his czars. Thesse editorial boards live in LaLaLAnd. Deals don't make it happen. What deal is going to hold in the Middle East. I expect our intelligence community to lose man of their agents as they figure out that they will be left out to die as in Benghazi. America is toast.

Interesting read--seems to me like the papers that endorsed 0 (with the exception of the NYT, of course) actually scold him more than the papers that endorsed Romney. The ones that endorsed Romney, OTOH, seem to be more completely buying into the fantasy that 0 can emerge as some kind of practical, non-partisan, centrist bridge-builder. They all make the mistake of thinking/saying that Americans as a whole want the two parties to stop fighting and work together to solve the big issues. I don't see it that way at all, I see two Americas with vastly different visions that cannot be reconciled. Neither wants their side to give in to the other. All this biz about "coming together to slove the nation's problems" strikes me as Pollyanna-ish blather.

#6 I agree, and your post reminds me of Boehner, appro of which - is pie-throwing illegal? He would be the prime candidate in my book.
As for the LAT, #1 - there are worse papers; they do allow a certain amount of good stuff & truth to slip through.

The next democrat nominee in 2016 will also blame Bush by saying the economy was so bad that even Obama couldn`t fix it after 8 years in office.
I think we are in for a long run of democrat president`s. Who does the GOP have that can contend? Big Media now dictates who wins the WH.

Any moonhowler can run for office, so Anthony Weiner is fully welcome to enter the Democratic primary in hopes of convincing New Yorkers that he’s fit to serve as mayor. The one-time congressional dynamo and suicidal sexter will have a lot to prove. That his lying days are over. That he has the emotional maturity and psychic balance to lead a complex city, including in crisis. That he is interested in public service as its own reward, not to fulfill craving for attention. As a councilman and representative, as well as in a run for mayor, Weiner showed promise.

Senators overcame a Republican-led filibuster on gun control Thursday, ensuring that the first post-Newtown legislation will reach the Senate floor and setting up bruising fights over expanded background checks and bans on some guns and ammunition. Family members of the victims of December’s school shooting in Connecticut looked on as senators voted 68-31 to defeat the filibuster.

Only one of my six children has left New York for economic reasons but the strain of living in this expensive nanny state is weighing heavy on my other five and their families. As a native New Yorker, I´ve seen its middle class population decline over the years due to its neglect of blue collar families which is ironic since this is a Democrat city. With the recent arrests of several local politicians for corruption perhaps New Yorkers will pay more attention to those they put in office. Given their past indifference in local elections this is highly unlikely.

AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka criticized President Obama’s FY 2014 budget for not promoting job growth while hurting seniors and federal workers. “The president sent Jack Lew to Europe to talk about, to chide them for austerity budgets; they should be investing in growth and things of that sort. It undermines our credibility when our budget here is an austerity budget.” Trumka specifically mentioned several areas of the budget he opposes, including its change to the Consumer Price Index formula used to calculate cost of living adjustments for Social Security payments.

Kirsten Powers has a scathing column at USA Today on the media´s lack of interest in the trial of Dr. Kermit Gosnell, an abortion doctor charged with the murder of eight. I´ll be keeping track of the trial of this twisted man. It´s ugly, but necessary: Massof, who, like other witnesses, has himself pleaded guilty to serious crimes, testified "It would rain fetuses. Fetuses and blood all over the place." Here is the headline the Associated Press put on a story about his testimony that he saw 100 babies born and then snipped:

I subscribe to the view that barring something truly unforeseeable, the Democratic nomination in 2016 is Hillary’s for the taking. There is no second Barack Obama out there to take the nomination away from her. In fact, the non-Hillary Democratic bench is pathetically weak. Hillary’s many controversies are mostly ancient history, and mostly the fault of her husband, and are unlikely to derail a general election bid. Rather, Hillary’s weakness is her time as Secretary of State, an abysmal performance which has left us weaker internationally than ever before.

One day in early February, I met Anthony Weiner and Huma Abedin for breakfast at the Gramercy Park Hotel, one of their regular joints, just a few blocks from their apartment on Park Avenue South. The first thing Weiner said when I sat down was that their 13-month-old son, Jordan, had just moments ago taken his first step. They were both giddy, kvelling with baby-pride, especially Weiner, who, with all his free time, has become his son’s primary caretaker. This is what life is like now for the man whose

It seems very odd that President Obama has made gun control the signature issue of his second term, so far. He can’t possibly achieve any significant legislation; a few tweaks to the background check system, maybe, but there is no chance of getting any meaningful gun control through the House. The House Democrats aren’t even trying. So it also seems strange that all eyes are on the Senate, where Harry Reid will unveil some sort of gun legislation–no one knows what, exactly–on Thursday. The party’s left-wing base is lining up behind the bill, sight unseen.

West Virginia Democratic Sen. Jay Rockefeller, one of the towering architects of Obamacare, on Tuesday openly criticized program managers for not moving quickly enough to build the system, warning that if it gets off to a bumpy start it will just get worse. Decrying the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act as way too complex, he warned the acting Medicare director that Obamacare is "so complicated and if it isn´t done right the first time, it will just simply get worse."

NATIONAL HARBOR, Md.--The Navy´s top officer unveiled new technology Monday that allows ships to shoot down drones or other vehicles for about the cost of a pack of gum. The USS Dewey tested an onboard laser weapons system in July 2012, in which it successfully shot down a test drone. Navy Adm. Jonathan Greenert, the chief of Naval Operations, screened video of the event while speaking at the Sea-Air-Space expo. The Laser Weapon System or LaWS only costs roughly $1 per shot and could be employed against fast attack ships or even be used in the future for missile defense.

In the message he issued along with his budget proposal on Wednesday morning, President Barack Obama said he wants to see 4-year-old children in the United States enrolled in public schools. Obama said America needs to start enrolling 4-year-olds to make sure the children are “better prepared for the demands of the global economy” and to help parents save on "child-care costs." After saying the United States needs to “equip our citizens with the skills and training” to fill jobs in manufacturing, energy and infrastructure, Obama said, “And that has to start at the earliest possible age.”

Is Anthony Weiner completely delusional? Or is he out of his flipping, sex-crazed gourd? Whatever big-busted fantasies crawl around the ex-congressman’s delirious noggin, la Weiner made his next goal as clear as the skin of the wholesome college students he craved: He relishes being Mayor Weiner. Please, shut up this clown. These days, the genitally obsessed Weiner has nothing much to do, except sit in his lavish Manhattan apartment and — the inhumanity! — change the poopy diapers of his 16-month-old son, Jordan. Worse, Weiner is living under a kind of house arrest, sentenced to take extreme grief

Within the next few decades, carbon emissions could cause global temperatures to rise between 4 and 11 degrees Fahrenheit, melting ice caps and causing sea levels to rise. The price of crops like coffee and chocolate will skyrocket, and countless cuddly animals around the globe could be wiped out. And yet, a lot of people find it hard to really care about climate change. But don´t be fooled: Climate change will affect you. Here´s a brief sampling of ways that warmer temperatures will suck the fun out of your life: 1. Your flights will be more turbulent

State Attorney General Bob Ferguson on Tuesday filed a consumer protection lawsuit against Arlene’s Flowers & Gifts, a Richland florist that refused to supply flowers to the same-sex marriage of a longtime customer. Ferguson said he sent a March 28 letter to owner Barronelle Stutzman asking her to reconsider and supply flowers to customer Robert Ingersoll. Through an attorney, Stutzman declined to change her position.“As Attorney General, it is my job to enforce the laws of the state of Washington,” said Ferguson. “Under the Consumer Protection Act, it is unlawful to discriminate
