Laura and other radio types spent the whole primary season running down Romney. Could that be a reason?

I paid attention. Was not a Romney fan in the spring, but by September, I was convinced of his integrity, his ability, his sincerity, kindness and generosity, and his love of country. I felt a deep connection and was proud to cast my vote for him. People who "didn't connect" were not able to do so because they got their news from John Stewart, Chris Matthews, and Brian Williams. Their image of Romney came from Dave Letterman and Saturday Night Live. I've come to the sad conclusion that we cannot reach an ignorant electorate.

If you didn't live in a swing state you had little connection to either candidate. Myself, I was damn proud to vote for Romney.

I felt a true connection. Romney reminds me of my dad, who has love of family and a work ethic that won't quit. Now Obama can hit the golf course and tell the rest of us to pound sand. This was the most fraudently held -- outright fraud encouraged election, I've ever witnessed.
Mitt Romney is a very smart man, I'm sure he knows this, but the worst thing he could do -- and probably the least effective is to make charges along these lines without the nearly impossible resources needed to prove it on as large a scale as it was perpetrated -- from the deliberately manufactured chaos of ''early voting'' to union maintenanced machines.
This election was stolen every bit as much as Saddam Hussein's last election in 2002. And the winner is celebrating with the same smugness and absence of shame.

As for Laura Ingraham, her particular zealousness for her newly found Catholicism (something that would be admirable on it's own) would not allow her to forgive Romney for winning the primary over Santorum or Gingrich either. Interviews during and after on EWTN made that plain. She's disingenuous at best on the subject of Mitt Romney. And unforgiving.

I had the same sinking feeling about Romney as I did when we ran Dole, and McCain. Good men but no chance at all of winning. Going against Obama was futile considering all of the special interests out there king pinning on his re-election. So much at stake for free government money for everyone. Redistribution of wealth and taxing the rich is a hard thing to beat.
Plus fee money and free cell phones is good tasting voter candy. Add in gay marriage, immigration changes coming that will open the gates at the border and this country will be fundamentally transformed into a third world social state the likes no one could have ever imagined.
Times have changed. It is what it is. Now Obamacare is here to stay. Gas prices today are around $4 a gallon. In four years they will be around $8 a gallon.

I agreed with at least one of Romney's positions on most issues. Like when he was against gun control, and when he was against unions, and when he was against bailouts, and TARP, and free abortion on demand, and especially when he was against Obamacare... well, against "certain provisions" in Obamacare.

I just don't see why people couldn't make a connection, when he had so many stances on so many issues, you couldn't help but find something to agree with!

Agree wholeheartedly with #11. It is a sad indictment of our political system that our country's future is being decided on "feelings of connections" rather than ability and political philosophy.

Clearly the experiment with universal suffrage has been proven to be a very bad idea. I mourn for my once great nation today.

I disagree that there was no connection; the crowds that showed up for Mitt Romney was evidence of a strong connection. That is absurd. I certainly have more respect for Romney than I do for John McCain.

I don't feel the need blame Romney today. He ran a clean and respectable campaign. He lost because, among other factors, we now have a large uneducated and uninformed citizenry that is willing to squander liberty for an 0bama mortgage and a phone. For example, there are people, like three of our neighbors, who bought houses they couldn't afford and then deliberately didn't pay their mortgages so that they could qualify for these special loans. They believe the economy is getting better. One of these neighbors does not believe that the Constitution is the law of the land. That's right, she does not believe it. She does not believe that we have a Constitutional Republic, either. And, as a Democrat, she never heard of Harry Reid, I kid you not.

No amount of analyzing "what happened" is going to turn this country around. We patriots must stay true to our convictions and principles, regardless of the consequences. Do right, not wrong. If people felt disconnected (and I don't really believe that to be true), it was partially because of Laura and other conservatives who could barely find a good word to say about Romney for months.

She's very wrong. The enthusiasm advantage was definitely more on the R & R team as evident by the turnouts at events & they definitely got the white vote and won the debates on issues. Mitt Romney & Paul Ryan connected. Period. If this had been 1980, Mitt would have won.

The problem is that the demographics of America has changed. The facts that voters in Washington are for legalizing marijuana's recreational use and voters in Massachusetts think doctor-assisted suicides are just peachy, tell me that too many 2012 American voters have lost their moral conscience. Too many people are sucking from the public teat now and Obama appealed to their fears and envy. Unfortunately, de Torqueville was prescient - America would be destroyed when her citizens found out they could vote free stuff for themselves. Obama campaigned not on issues or his dismal record but by pandering to a bunch of special interest groups. In the end, the vote in 2012 wasn't about connecting with voters but about which candidate could pay a higher price for the average voter's ballot when he found out he could sell. And, this is tragic, because it marks the end of people coming together as Americans.

I hope deTorqueville is wrong, that the average American voter will change. But if that happens, it will happen with a lot more pain than if R & R had won. What is so amusing about this kind of tripe is that anyone paying attention for the last, oh, 80 or 90 years recognizes that it is the Democrats who use the power of government to impose on and dictate to people’s lives. Space allows but one illustration: Sending women “back to the 50s”. I’m aware of no piece of legislation the GOP has ever introduced on this topic. Rather, Democrats have actually passed legislation forcing taxpayers and religious institutions to fund abortion on demand and contraception. The GOP opposes this kind of government coercion, and is therefore branded as “anti-women” and accused of using the government to control women’s bodies – when the most rudimentary examination reveals the exact opposite is true. If one can’t see the perversity in that, one is too far gone to deal with rationally.

The reality is that conservative policies DID NOT create the current social or economic condition of the country. However, if the country were ever to have a chance to recover – which it won’t at this point – conservative policies are the only way to do it. As one can see from the comments here, this is a lost cause.

I'm pleasantly surprised at the reactions of the above posters regarding the negative attitude of Laura Ingraham, because I agree. There were times when I had to turn her off the radio when she went on her constant rants of GWBush. She was merciless. But what does that get her? She did the same thing regarding Romney. No one pleases her and her criticisms are ruthless. I can't take her anymore.

mitt was my first choice in 2008 and he was my first choice in 2012. i connected with him..... he symbolized everything decent and innovative about the american spirit.
i loved the fact he was married to the same woman for 42 yrs, he had a wonderful family who loved him. i'm not even going to rehash his success in everything he set his mind to do. he was sabotaged by a media who were jonesing for another term for their messiah. lord knows (and thank goodness) i feel no connection to the punk in the WH..i would have to re-examine my psyche if i did.

#20...i totally agree with you. i was a poll watcher for mitt all day yesterday. i saw absentee ballots, provisional ballots and people making "mistakes" on their ballots and voting again. supposedly, their "incorrect" ballot was thrown away and ex'ed but who knows if they weren't put through the scanner again.

She's sort of right. There WAS a 2.5 million conservative disconnect. Some may have been "bigots", but more, I believe, were conservative purists who voted for McCain last time & are bitterly disappointed with the GOP for giving us moderate candidates. And 2.5 million stayed home.
