Dick Morris warns GOP to
appeal to new electorate or
‘it can never win an election’

Daily Caller, by Jeff Poor

One of the more lopsided predictions of this year’s presidential election in Republican candidate Mitt Romney’s favor came from Fox News Channel’s Dick Morris, who on repeated occasions declared Romney would win in a landslide. As it turned out, Morris was wrong and Obama won handily with a sizeable lead in the Electoral College. On Wednesday’s broadcast of FNC’s “Fox & Friends,” Morris said his landslide prediction had become his “mudslide” and explained where he went wrong. “I think that the reason the prediction I made was wrong, is that I was criticizing the polling because I said

Keep focusing on abortion, God, and "American Values" and you will keep losing. (And tell your candidates to keep their mouths shut about rape and abortion and biological factors and other stupid stuff that just turns off anyone with half a brain.) Not that those aren't important issues to many people, or to the country, but that just won't cut it with the demographics that are needed to win with an R candidate. It just ain't happening any more.

BS.

This election was the "free stuff" party vs the "eat your vegetables" party.

Since the "free stuff" people don't see any problem with the gravy train continuing...they voted accordingly. Let's face it, it won't be a problem until we become Greece in about 4 years.

Snice this is already happening at the local level faster than the national level...you've seen gains in the states by Republican Governors first. Expect national gains to follow.

Why reach out to people who don't believe in anything you believe in especially the Constitution.

Sorry but this new electorate has no idea what the Constitution is about and only want free stuff.

Anyway, Morris you have no credibility on anything so don't tell me what I need to appeal to.

Let this new electorate deal with the catastrophe they are creating. Maybe not today or tomorrow but it is coming.

Think I have to agree with #2. We need candidates at all levels that can talk about abortion and "reproductive rights" without sounding like knuckle dragging fools. Once Akin's comments went national it gave the democrats a sledge hammer and they used it. Romney was good candidate with a good message that was overridden by social issues. We need better candidates and smarter ones down the ticket.

Morris was certainly dead wrong this time. Many of us were.

I'm not throwing him under the bus quite yet.

I think our first order of business will be defending our existing conservative media and destroying the likes of CBS and MSNBC. This is where the real damage has taken place.

There are some very very serious problems on our immediate horizon. I'm thinking people may be waking up real soon and real suddenly.

Agreed, OP. Dick has completely lost his 'cred'.

It's not that the GOP should appeal to a new electorate, it's that it did not aggressively represent the electorate it had.

Time for that electorate to move on to a new political party and get real representation.

Appeal to a new electorate? What hogwash. GOP needs to educate the electorate and that means we need to go around the public school and university systems. They're firmly entrenched and we can't beat them at their game. The answer is not to join them. The answer is to nullify their game and get people thinking in terms other than Lady Parts.

So ashamed of my gender right now I could spit.

Morris, and many others cannot admit that they were wrong. His turnout model was wrong means he was wrong.

Personal responsibility and financial accountability were rejected last night in favor of handouts and higher taxes for 'others.' Conservatives had no idea that Americans were that selfish and that irresponsible. We lost on the war of ideas, not voter turnout or 'inclusiveness.'

Why does Dick Morris still get paid to say ANYTHING? The man is wrong every time!

Also it's not just him. Many conservative radio hosts and others were talking about "unskewed" polls that would show Romney winning. It turns out we would have been better served by the truth that we needed to fight harder than ever because we were three points down. That geek on the left, Nate Silver? I am sorry to say it but he was 100% accurate and if we had listened to him and sprung more intensely into action, last night's results would have been different. Instead we were fed some very inaccurate predictions that we wanted to hear. Morris was the worst of the lot.

I can't look forward with hope, I can't imagine why I'd bother to vote again. Call me names, no problem, I've been vilified by the best. One more thing: A big lesson that must be learned is this:

All things being equal, when you take free things from the government, when other people's wealth is redistributed to you, YOU HAVE GIVEN YOUR POWER AWAY. You are OWNED by those doing the giving. They know it. That's in part why they give it to you so they can CONTROL YOU. You have in all reality sold your soul because your soul knows it wrong to take things that you did not earn...unless you are truly trying to improve your life and temporarily need a hand up.

This lesson MUST be learned. Apparently too few have learned it. And again, there's the unions and what they received for their gotv, imho.

Because that has to be the new standard for already moderate fox pundits: move forward with the new reality/lite. Clingers must be made to bend even more than than previously imagined. Maybe we're talking face tattoos. Until their fever is broken, or spirit, or whatever Biden said. In 2 more years Morris, a flexible man, will explain how that mark of the beast/ accepting Islam thing is a necessary appeal to the middle.

You hear these talking heads claim that the wimpy Republicans must embrace Obama's "comprehensive immigration reform" also known as amnesty or they will never win over Hispanic voters.

What Obama and the liberal Democrats want is just about all illegal aliens in the country maybe 12 to 20 million, to be granted amnesty, be put on "a path to citizenship" and be allowed to bring many millions of their foreign family members here.

"A path to citizenship" is liberal Democrat speak for eventually granting all the legalized aliens duel nationality and US voting rights. The liberal Democrats want that because they know that the vast majority of those aliens would become liberal Democrat voters.

If the Republicans in Congress embraced such a liberal Democrat policy, they would essentially be committing long-term political suicide, by in affect providing the liberal Democrats with many millions of new voters.

Heading off a lawsuit over compliance with a federal voting rights law, California officials have agreed to help millions of state residents register to vote. Authorities are searching for more bodies after a massive mudslide in a rural part of Washington state killed at least eight and possibly left more than 100 missing, while crews battle uneven ground and rising waters. A 1-square-mile mudslide struck Saturday morning in Snohomish County, critically injuring several people and destroying about 30 several homes. Eight bodies have been pulled from the scene and authorities described the search for additional survivors to be "grim." John Pennington, emergency response managing director, said there are reports of up to 108 people missing in the mudslide but noted that number is unconfirmed. "This is a large

The Daily Surge has a clip of Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) on Bill Maher’s HBO show. Ellison says the Democratic Party should just be honest about its stance on guns. Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), a guest on Maher’s panel pushed back saying, “You have got to check out the progressive caucus. We have come out very strong for common-sense gun safety rules. I mean, 27 children were mowed down. Isn’t that enough for us? One of our colleagues, [former Congresswoman] Gabby Giffords, shot in the face.” For some reason, Americans murdered by drug cartel members along the border never came

Congressional Republicans, led by House Oversight Committee chair Darrell Issa, are planning another IRS coal-raking exercise for Wednesday, hauling the tax agency´s commissioner in for a hearing about the nearly year-old tea party targeting scandal. [Snip] An aide to one Republican committee member said Monday that the White House and the Treasury Department were already dangerously close to causing a constitutional crisis. ´They´ve blown off the subpoenas,´ the aide said, referring to legal demands the committee issued to the IRS on August 2 and February 14. ´If the DOJ keeps dragging its heels too, and can just get away with it,

A pair of potentially catastrophic cases will be argued before the Supreme Court on Tuesday. These cases are brought by privately held, for-profit corporations that are arguing their religious convictions should preclude them from offering employees the health insurance required by law. Specifically, these private employers don’t want to allow their employees’ insurance to cover some forms of birth control because, contrary to medicaland scientific evidence, they believe some birth control causes abortions. Corporations are not people. Corporations cannot have religious views. If religious rights are extended to corporations, it puts us on a slippery slope where any private company

London - A remarkable piece of high-tech data detective work has provided what looks to be the missing clue to the tragic fate of missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, an expert said Monday. Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak earlier on Monday said that information provided by British satellite company Inmarsat and the British government´s Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) confirmed that MH370 had flown to a remote part of the Indian Ocean where the flight ended. (Snip) Inmarsat had come up with a theory to apply to the data it had collected from MH370 during the flight, and had then tested the results on aircraft in

Former President Jimmy Carter is back in the news this week publicizing a new book about women’s rights. But, as is often the case with Carter, he drew more interest for comments he made about Israel and its supporters. When asked on NBC’s Meet the Press yesterday by Andrea Mitchell why it was that Barack Obama never called upon him for advice, he made it clear that the Jewish state was the reason he has been treated like a pariah: I—that’s a hard question– for me to answer—you know, with complete candor. I think the problem was that– that in dealing

Media Matters, the website of choice for Fox News haters everywhere, attacked the cable news network on Monday for using the term “homosexual” in its programming — advancing the peculiar argument that the scientific term has a “pejorative connotation.” The online “media watchdog” contends that calling gay people “homosexual” is “a practice that’s quickly falling out of favor with major news outlets due the term’s often pejorative connotation and frequent use by opponents of LGBT equality.” Fox News, they chide, “has yet to update its language when referring to gay and lesbian people.” Buttressing their argument? First Lady Michelle Obama talked about America as she visited a school today in China. She talked about the American dream: And my story isn’t unusual in America. Some of our most famous athletes, like LeBron James, and artists, like the singer Janelle Monae, came from struggling families like mine, as do many business leaders -- like Howard Schultz. He’s the head of a company called Starbucks, which many of you may have heard of. When Mr. Schultz was a boy his father lost his job, leaving their family destitute. But Mr. Schultz worked hard. He got a scholarship to a

WASHINGTON — Spring break was never this dull. First Lady Michelle Obama’s kids finally hit the wall on their whirlwind visit to China, showing signs they’ve nearly reached their limit tagging along with mom as she visits site after site on what’s billed as a “person-to-person” tour. Accompanied by Malia, 15, and Sasha, 12, the first lady on Monday toured Xi’an, an ancient city in the ancestral province of Chinese President Xi Jinping. They inspected the city’s 600-year-old wall, a day after touring the Great Wall near Beijing. Photos show Sasha looking like she’d rather be back home with her pals than hitting the

A few weeks ago, I wrote about how the sweeping acceptance of gay marriage in recent years is owed in large part to Christianity. Rejecting the rigidly hierarchical and stratified societies of the ancient world, Jesus Christ taught the equal dignity of all persons, proclaimed that the meek shall inherit the earth, and declared that the last shall be first and the first shall be last. The Western world has been working out the logic of these subversive teachings ever since, with the institutional transformation of marriage being the latest, though surely not the last, example of its social, moral,

Most Supreme Court watchers are fixated these days on Sebelius v. Hobby Lobby—the important challenge to the Affordable Care Act’s contraception mandate scheduled for argument Tuesday. And why wouldn’t they be? With its potent mix of religion, sex, Obamacare, and prayerful corporations, it’s the blockbuster case of the term. It is also a crucial test of Chief Justice John Roberts’s leadership on the Supreme Court. Just two years ago, Roberts cast the deciding vote to largely uphold the Affordable Care Act. While the country remains divided over whether he acted like a traitor or a statesman, all would have to agree

It’s not an early April Fool’s joke -- Business Insider has hired disgraced former NYC Congressman and mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner to write a weekly political column, starting Friday. Hunter Walker, Business Insider’s politics editor, published the announcement on Monday, after teasing the news on Twitter by announcing that “something wonderful is about to happen.” The folks at Business Insider are clearly aware of the built-in entertainment value of hiring the scandalized politician, who is best known for sending an explicit photo of himself to an online mistress on Twitter -- and initially denying the photo was his. During oral arguments in the U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday which focused on whether the contraceptive mandate in the Affordable Care Act violates the free exercise of religion, Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan suggested employers who have moral objections to birth control should not provide health care coverage for their employees. “But isn´t there another choice nobody talks about, which is paying the tax, which is a lot less than a penalty and a lot less than -- than the cost of health insurance at all?” Sotomayor said during the presentation by attorney Paul Clement, who represents Hobby Lobby Stores
