Question for the victor:
How far do you push

New York Times, by Peter Baker

Original Article

Posted By:MinnesotaWild(man), 11/7/2012 7:15:44 AM

For President Obama, now comes a second chance. An electorate that considers the country to be on the wrong track nonetheless agreed to renew his contract in hopes that the next four years will be better than the last. A weary but triumphant president took the stage in Chicago early Wednesday morning before a jubilant crowd, clearly relieved to have survived a challenge that threatened to end his storybook political career. While he was speaking of America, he could have been talking about himself when he told the audience: “We have picked ourselves up. We have fought our way back.”

Comments:
Surprisingly fairly balanced analysis. Not even the NYT says he has a mandate.

Tell me again why anyone thinks Barky cares whether he has a mandate or not. We're talking about a guy who thinks he's had one since the moment he was born. We're just not smart enough to realize it.

He has never had a mandate. That doesn't stop him from pushing socialism and fascism down our throats. I fear for my children and their lack of a future. And I am thoroughly ashamed of this country.

How far does he push? All the way.

The America of our Founding Fathers died last night.

55 million people inexplicably voted to reelect a demagogue and unabashed ideologue, with a four year record of radicalism, over a pragmatist and good man. So, Obama will continue to steer the Ship of State toward socialism, and I don't see anything that would cause him to reverse course. He will have four more years to transform America: four more years to trash our economy in the name of fairness; four more years to weaken our military; four more years to make us even more irrelevant in a dangerous world; and four more years to ensure that Republicans never regain the White House. Democracy survived Obama's first term; I don't believe it will survive a second.

Yes, Republicans kept the House. So what? An honorable president would be checked by a House held by the opposition. Obama has shown he is not an honorable man, and he will not be bound by that hoary Constitutional concept of "checks and balances."

If it's as bad as I think it will be, millions will regret their vote, and our children and their children will curse us for what happened last night. And it won't take long: wait until Obamacare really kicks in; wait until people finally begin to realize that a high unemployment rate and anemic economy are natural consequences of Obama's vision; wait until they finally notice drastically deteriorating race relations.

An aside: I am laying down my satirist's pen. Humor involving this man, his administration, and his Party is now, in my view, misplaced. There is nothing to laugh at any more.

Four more years of incompetence

#3- Without humor, we have nothing left. Without people to use humor against the corrupt, we have no weapon. Without humor to inform low information voters, how do you reach them, and sway them?

Grieve today, Sagman. We understand. However, I am a momma grizzly, and will be damned if I give up on my children or grandchildren.

Game on. Breitbart lives.

sagman is right. 0bama is going to push all the way, because there will be nothing to stand in his way. See the article posted just below this one from American Thinker today, "Obama's Second Term". Each of us will have to decide how we will prepare and face what's coming.

Reply 7 - Posted by: Hobbiest, 11/7/2012 7:44:24 AM     (No. 8995368)

Most of Obama's policies were intentionally back loaded into 2013 and 2014. Be prepared to tell ignorant Obama voters and those who sat out this election "I told you so" a lot in the coming years when they complain about rising costs, poor health care services and no jobs.

#3 I couldn't agree more. If we had only followed the Constitution, Obama would not have happened. Now there is a precedent of ignoring the eligibility clause of the Constitution. Next time the Republicans should nominate Bibi Netanyahu. He comes closer to being an American than Obama.

As bad as what happened last night was, and what it portends for our future, I must repectfully disagree with our Sagman. The America of our Founding Fathers died in April, 1865. It's just that none of us were around then to realize it.

Even liberals are realizing that the Kenyan now owns it all. No more blaming Bush, and this is only going to get FAR worse. Trillions in debt with more required to feed the socialist beast the bleeding heart liberals created some 75 years ago. Today the #1 industry in this country is government, the looters, and they can only exist on the backs of taxpayers and massive foreign borrowing.
Look for the "buyer's remorse" to kick in when the producers see their taxes increase by 20%, their healthcare quality decline, and their kids can't find meaningful jobs.

I don't believe Obie will be deterred. Mandate, schmandate. "With a stroke of the pen" (executive order) he will do whatever he and his supporters desire.

"....most voters just seemed to want him to make it function."

They want more free stuff.

“But if the price of peace in Washington” means slashing student aid, reversing his health care program or cutting people from Medicaid, he added, “that’s not a price I’ll pay.”

Obama will provide more free stuff.

How will he blame the rich if he can't provide the free stuff because at a given point in time, the bills do have to be paid.

Reply 15 - Posted by: planetgeo, 11/7/2012 8:12:26 AM     (No. 8995449)

Sagman, I see this more as an unfinished script. The plot twist that initiates the final chase scene has just occurred. The antagonist has diabolically outwitted the good guys and emerged seemingly in control. The good guys seem leaderless and in the depths of despair.

But wait...when all hope seems gone, when evil seems to have triumphed, what is that in the distance?

It's us, Sagman. WE will write the final act of this unfinished thriller.

#3, now is the time to aim your pen at the clueless people who, once again, put this man-child in office. Ridicule of the enablers is more than appropriate.

Republicans have nothing more to lose, so I fully expect Impeachment hearings to begin for the Butcher of Benghazi and his assistants in crime. We OWE that much to the families, and to our brave military who are at the mercy of the Butcher.
Obamacare has signed my death warrant, along with millions of others. There is no hope.

#5, "without humor we have nothing left". No truer words spoken, as WE DON'T! This isn't funny a bit.

#3, as usual, hits it out of the park.

There is no longer any incentive to private initiative. All incentives now are to get a government job, government contract, government sanctioned monopoly, government financing, or government direct investment.

What happens when the money for the free stuff runs out, and there is no one and nothing left to tax? No, he has nothing to lose now, and soon the useful idiots with their free phones will be like the victims of Sandy, calling out to the rest of us for help.

The only difference will be, they brought it on themselves. Do you honestly think the money won't run out? When it does, why should he care? He got what he wanted, and like a bad date, will kick all his virgins to the curb.

The one part of the story he left out is your first time is usually a mistake.

Didn't you just love Obama's promise to "work with" the other side (i.e., the Republicans)? Of course, as we know by now, his definition of "working with" is "me talk, you listen and obey to the letter."

Obama only cares about himself. He will reward those who voted for him and punish those who did not. That is how a Marxist operates. We will all become enemies of the state.

You think politcial correctness is bad now? We haen't seen anything yet.

Read in today's mini Washington Post papor they hand out to commuters that a majority of voters stll blamed George W Bush for the poor economy and that 95% of blacks say federal govenrment should provide jobs (per NAACP poll).

And if CHristie thinks he has a chance in 2016 - fat chance (pun intended). Bill Clinton wasn't just campaigning for Obama buy Hillary in 2016 - that's assuming Obama decides to leave office then.

Reply 26 - Posted by: marthaville, 11/7/2012 9:32:30 AM     (No. 8995781)

Yes there is hope.

It's time to take a deep breath and develop a better plan for moving forward. The first step will be to jettison the northeastern liberal RINO block. They have done nothing for our nation other than to enjoy the years as the faithful minority party that enjoyed playing second fiddle. They gave us Bob Dole, not Ronald Reagan. Then John McCain. And they thought they were doing that with Mitt Romney. Too bad we didn't realize until the first debate that Romney really knew what he was talking about.

The old view of not defending yourself against lies and more lies just doesn't cut it in today's world. It's a shame we have a nation of 50% that vote for a man because of his skin color and because he appeals to their narrow desire for what they think will benefit them in the short run.

We will need a big picture guy with real vision, not someone to argue about fine tuning laws in place.

Now is the time to really get tough in the House and refuse to negotiate with the moron elect. He does not know how to negotiate. Perhaps it is time for Boehner to step aside and let someone Obama hates with a passion, like Eric Cantor, lead the negotiation. We must not allow Obama to decide who the Republican leaders are.

Plan for increasing the majority in the House in 2014. Develop a plan and candidates to take the Senate.

Along the way we must learn from the Democrats and support our candidates. The Republican leadership squandered two Senate seats that could have been won. Stupid mistakes that will last for six years.

I have been a lurker on this web site since the late 1990s. Ever since, I have started every day by coming to this site and reading the decent, intelligent, insightful, and witty comments. This morning I was in tears, and I have never cried after an election in my life. I cannot tell all of you how much it means to me to have a forum of like-minded people with whom I can share my sorrow and despair. I honestly don't know how to go on from here, but I can tell you one thing: I will never give up. I will never give in to this socialist poison and will go to my death fighting it tooth and nail. We are the producers and they need us to stay alive. We have our ways. God (with whom I am really angry right now) bless you all, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I was in the dumps for about eight hours. But realize two things: (1) this is MY country too. I fought for it, I pay for it, I love it (unlike Mr. Revenge), and I am damn sure not turning it over in despair. (2) this was an election. There will be another one in two years, and another one after that. Things will definitely get worse in the near future. But Margaret Thatcher faced worse. Any damage done by man (or Obama) can be undone. It will be harder, and more expensive. But the only way we lose is to quit the field. "Going Galt" is an escapist fantasy, not a policy.

Regarding the specific subject of the thread--with all due respect to Sag, and his indescribably accurate assessment, I think posts 1 and 2 said it all, coulda just as well closed the thread right there--well, at least until post #9. Regarding the broader issue--well, I'm tired too, haven't read the analyses and post-mortems, don't know if I will. But just from what i saw last night, I can't shake the profoundly disgusting feeling that we have been saddled with 4 more years of national degradation by women in a few Middle American states whose primary motivation in life is apparently to keep the "casual" in "casual sex".

Have to have something to help us Americans bear the unbearable.

We can all take pride in the fact that this salon started the discussion about Socialism that America needed to have.
That the Obamunists won this election does not take away our validity.
The karmatic hubristic-shooting Gods including that Distant Deadly Archer that have ruled the Universe since the beginning of time are only setting Obama and Co. up for a spectacular takedown.

The Republicans need to master the art of rigging elections as the Dems have.

Seriously, Republicans do not split their tickets and vote for a Republican House candidate and a Dem president.

The House needs to stand their/our ground and defund any and all of Obama's activities which fall outside the Constitution, including gutting our military.

The House should begin a "have no mercy and take no prisoners" investigation of the Benghazi terror attack murders. I want to see military leaders testify that they were not ordered to defend Americans in Benghazi, or they were told to stand down when they informed the white house they were asked to defend. Compare the Benghazi murders to Watergate. I rest my case.

The President knows only one path, Government Control. The full extent is going to be exposed quickly. Industry will need to spend $800 billion just to keep their current plants open. GM and Chrysler are doing their next expansions in China. Taxes on the wealthy won't come close to providing needed revenue so its time to break out the carbon tax. ICE is letting illegals stay, so they need some middle class white guys to give up their jobs to help the dreamers succeed.

No this is not funny. The election was stolen. And it was stolen with the help of Republican involvement. The Republican establishment along with the Democrats stole this election for Obama. The Bush dynasty is still alive thanks to Karl Rove et al. If Romney wins, the Bush's are gone forever. Now they are back(see Colin Powell's endorsement of Obama)and (Chris Christy's stabs). Look at our quiet congress. Low turnout you say..no way. The numbers do not add up. A true conservative will never be elected President again.

I just can't do it. I can't bear to continue my daily ritual of immersing myself in the news on this wonderful site and the many others I visit to get a decent picture of what's going on. And you can't write political satire unless you immmerse yourself in politics.

Anything can change, but at this time my heart isn't in it anymore--by ''it'' I mean keeping up with current events in order to satirize the players. I don't think I'd call it giving up or giving in. I still care, but whatever spark I had that often had me up at 3 a.m. writing something to skewer Zero appears extinguished.

So thank you all, Lucianne particularly, for all the support and encouragement over the last five years. It was a good run and it's been an honor to have been part of this community. I am signing off.

All it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing. Edmund Burke.

Please, do not let the earth's last, best hope for democracy die because evil people like Soros have found a charming deceiver like Obama to start killing off the free world's champion, the United States of America.

Instead, resist the socialist tyrants. Band together and fight back, not with weapons but with new ways to reach out to those who WILL not see because they have been lulled to sleep with siren-song of a nanny government. Breitbart has shown the way. Start by neutering Barack's accomplices in the mainstream media. Bankrupt & destroy them so they no longer have any credibility. Support new media. Support the TEA party, fight back every libellous claim creatively and with class. There are many TEA party sympathizers now and more will come as realization dawns on voters that they have reelected Valerie Jarrett, a first class screwed up lady, as acting President of the US.

I don't want the names of Ron Paul, Alex Jones, or Gary Johnson ever mentioned in my presence again.

Ron Paul had some stupid young people votes, and he refused to support the party that he used when it was convenient for him. Alex Jones' negativity equated 0bama and Romney...stupid! Gary Johnson I guess just tried to run as an alternative. Nothing wrong with that.

The first thing I do every day is visit this site. I seldom post, but browse everything. I feel you Sagman and thank you for all you have done. I am tired too. Hey, they Voted for this stuff on their own free will. I don't get it and am very dissapointed. But maybe this thing has to run its course. The pain of this disease/experiment hasn't really hit yet, but it will. Romney would have never had a chance to do anything with the media we have anyhow. Nothing but pain, suffering and bloodshed will ever lead to a true conservative government, and it may not even happen then. They made one huge mistake in the design and that is term limits. Nobody is going to go down there and suggest term limits, but until that happens it will be more of the same. Our whole economy is unsustainable and we are headed for trouble. probably in my lifetime as I am only 51. Bengazi and f&f are jokes, nothing will ever happen there either. I am taking a break from politics as every single issue I believe in never ever works out. I am tired of losing on each and every issue. I still believe in the right stuff, its just that the majority of the country doesn't. I wish the best for us but have my doubts.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie on Tuesday slammed the “know-nothing, disgruntled Romney staffers” who in a Huffington Post story on Monday accused him of snubbing Mitt Romney by skipping Sunday’s rally in Pennsylvania. Christie, a vocal backer of Romney, said during a press conference that he told the Republican presidential nominee before Hurricane Sandy hit that he would likely be unavailable for the rest of the campaign. “I said to him, ‘Listen, Mitt, if this storm hits the way I think it’s going to, I’m off the campaign trail from here to Election Day,’ ” Christie recalled.

GOP firebrand Rep. Michele Bachmann appeared to be squeaking out a victory over DFL businessman Jim Graves in a race that is so close it could be heading for a recount. Early Wednesday, the Associated Press called the race for Bachmann, after she led by slightly more than 1 percentage point with 98 percent of the precincts reporting. That margin would put the race outside the range for an automatic recount, but Graves could still seek and pay for one. "It looks very much like it'll be a recount," Graves told supporters in St. Cloud early Wednesday, hours before Bachmann's lead widened from

As the presidential race tightens across the country, a new Star Tribune Minnesota Poll has found that it is narrowing here as well, with President Obama holding a 3-point lead and Republican Mitt Romney making gains in the state. The poll shows Obama with support from 47 percent of likely voters and Romney earning backing from 44 percent -- a lead within the poll's margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points. Last month, Obama had an 8-percentage point advantage in the Minnesota Poll. Romney has apparently cut into the Democrat's advantage among women since then

TO OAKLAND University, Michigan (home of the Grizzlies), for a rally tonight starring Paul Ryan, the Republican vice-presidential nominee. There is a certain eccentricity to a Ryan rally, some of it carefully crafted, some of it spontaneous. The crafted stuff includes Mr Ryan's MidWestern-guy talk of hunting and football, and the exceedingly loud blast of AC/DC's "Thunderstruck" to which he enters the room.

Michelle Obama has admitted that she is already tired of the bangs she first sported in January. The First Lady said in an interview with Entertainment Tonight: ´Bangs are a day-by-day proposition. They´re starting to grow out, get a little irritating.´ Still, she hasn´t let her hairdo woes get her down. ´It´s okay,´ she said after her initial complaint. ´We´ll be good.´ The first indication that her hairstyle was becoming a burden came about last weekend, when Malia, 14, was spotted adjusting her mother´s hair during the White House Easter Egg Roll.

President Obama´s biggest gaffe yesterday when speaking of California Attorney General Kamala Harris was not in flirtatiously complimenting her as "the best-looking attorney general," but in introducing an observation from the system of beauty into a forum that was about the system of power. What´s that, you say? Irin Carmon does a great job in Salon in laying out the bounds of propriety for when it´s appropriate to talk about a woman´s looks as a general matter. But I´ve long felt we lack a solid theoretical underpinning for easily discussing these issues, and why precisely it is that

Sen. John McCain says he doesn´t understand the threats from some of his Republican colleagues to filibuster a bill on background checks to buy guns. "I don´t understand it," the Arizona Republican said on Sunday of the threat coming from Sen. Rand Paul,Sen. Ted Cruz, Sen. Mike Lee and nine other Republicans. "The purpose of the United States Senate is to debate and to vote and to let the people know where we stand.” "What are we afraid of? ... If this issue is as important as we all think it is, why not take ... it up and debate?"

No one is more preoccupied these days with Hillary Clinton´s 2016 plans than the Beltway political class—not even the former presidential candidate herself. To hear some tell it, her decision will be dispositive for all other Democrats thinking of entering the race. And pundits and reporters aren´t the only ones positing the "The Hillary Factor": No less than the House Democratic whip, Steny Hoyer, told BuzzFeed, “I don´t know that anybody would run against Hillary…. If she runs, she clears the field.” It´s an understandable conclusion, given Clinton´s stature in the Democratic Party and her 70 percent

I hope all will look at a lifetime of service over some poorly chosen words.” Carson will remain as commencement speaker at Johns Hopkins,

On Friday, Sean Hannity brought Pat Smith, mother of the late Sean Smith, on his radio program. The 34-year-old information management officer was one of four Americans murdered in the Benghazi embassy attack on September 11, 2012. In the chilling interview, a distraught Ms. Smith, in tears, pleaded for answers and spoke of the efforts to silence her. Ms. Smith first relayed how her son, prior to the attack, requested additional security in advance and warned the State Department: He did tell them, ahead of time, he typed it into his little typewriter over there,

Put out an all-points bulletin: Millions of Americans have gone missing from the workforce. Every month that those would-be workers are gone raises the odds that they might never come back, dimming the prospects for future economic growth. The vanishing trend is more than a decade old, but it accelerated during the Great Recession. Throughout 2012, economists held out hope that it had stopped. But then came Friday’s jobs report, and hopes were dashed. The Labor Department reported that the U.S. labor force — everyone who has a job or is looking for one — shrank

Susan Patton, the Princeton alumna who became famous for her letter urging Ivy League women to use their college years to find a mate, has been denounced as a traitor to feminism, to coeducation, to the university ideal. But really she’s something much more interesting: a traitor to her class. Her betrayal consists of being gauche enough to acknowledge publicly a truth that everyone who’s come up through Ivy League culture knows intuitively —

Los Angeles — Some people have had it with TV. They´ve had enough of the 100-plus channel universe. They don´t like timing their lives around network show schedules. They´re tired of $100-plus monthly bills. A growing number of them have stopped paying for cable and satellite TV service, and don´t even use an antenna to get free signals over the air. (Snip) Last month, the Nielsen Co. started labeling people in this group "Zero TV" households, because they fall outside the traditional definition of a TV home. The budget President Barack Obama will submit on April 10 will contain a proposal that would prohibit individuals from accumulating more than $3 million in Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) and tax-preferred retirement accounts. According to a White House statement, the Obama administration believes the current rules allow some wealthy individuals "to accumulate many millions of dollars in these accounts, substantially more than is needed to fund reasonable levels of retirement saving." "The budget would limit an individual’s total balance across tax-preferred accounts to an amount sufficient to finance an annuity of not more than $205,000 per
