Bachmann appears
poised to win re-election

Star Tribune [Minneapolis, MN], by Kevin Diaz

GOP firebrand Rep. Michele Bachmann appeared to be squeaking out a victory over DFL businessman Jim Graves in a race that is so close it could be heading for a recount. Early Wednesday, the Associated Press called the race for Bachmann, after she led by slightly more than 1 percentage point with 98 percent of the precincts reporting. That margin would put the race outside the range for an automatic recount, but Graves could still seek and pay for one. "It looks very much like it'll be a recount," Graves told supporters in St. Cloud early Wednesday, hours before Bachmann's lead widened from

Given that this is the land of Fradulent Franken, I won't believe it until she is sworn in, and Graves concedes.

Who are we kidding? He's a dem.

No one else is going to tell you this, so I might as well. You sit here today, $30,000 or $40,000 in debt, as the latest victims of what may well be the biggest conspiracy in U.S. history. It is a conspiracy so big and powerful that Dan Brown won’t even touch it. It’s a conspiracy so insidious that you will rarely hear its name. Move over, Illuminati. Stand down, Wall Street. Area 51? Pah. It’s nothing. The biggest conspiracy of all? The College-Industrial Complex.

For President Obama, now comes a second chance. An electorate that considers the country to be on the wrong track nonetheless agreed to renew his contract in hopes that the next four years will be better than the last. A weary but triumphant president took the stage in Chicago early Wednesday morning before a jubilant crowd, clearly relieved to have survived a challenge that threatened to end his storybook political career. While he was speaking of America, he could have been talking about himself when he told the audience: “We have picked ourselves up. We have fought our way back.”

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie on Tuesday slammed the “know-nothing, disgruntled Romney staffers” who in a Huffington Post story on Monday accused him of snubbing Mitt Romney by skipping Sunday’s rally in Pennsylvania. Christie, a vocal backer of Romney, said during a press conference that he told the Republican presidential nominee before Hurricane Sandy hit that he would likely be unavailable for the rest of the campaign. “I said to him, ‘Listen, Mitt, if this storm hits the way I think it’s going to, I’m off the campaign trail from here to Election Day,’ ” Christie recalled.

As the presidential race tightens across the country, a new Star Tribune Minnesota Poll has found that it is narrowing here as well, with President Obama holding a 3-point lead and Republican Mitt Romney making gains in the state. The poll shows Obama with support from 47 percent of likely voters and Romney earning backing from 44 percent -- a lead within the poll's margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points. Last month, Obama had an 8-percentage point advantage in the Minnesota Poll. Romney has apparently cut into the Democrat's advantage among women since then

TO OAKLAND University, Michigan (home of the Grizzlies), for a rally tonight starring Paul Ryan, the Republican vice-presidential nominee. There is a certain eccentricity to a Ryan rally, some of it carefully crafted, some of it spontaneous. The crafted stuff includes Mr Ryan's MidWestern-guy talk of hunting and football, and the exceedingly loud blast of AC/DC's "Thunderstruck" to which he enters the room.

A "vast majority" of Mitt Romney donors, establishment pooh-bahs, and an anti-conservative consultant who is the epitome of permanent political class want former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush to run for president in 2016. Bush was in Las Vegas this week meeting with Sheldon Adelson, and, according to the Post, "many if not most of 2012 GOP nominee Mitt Romney’s major donors are reaching out to Bush and his confidants with phone calls, e-mails and invitations to meet." One bundler even said that a "vast majority” of "Romney’s top 100 donors would back Bush." The Post also noted that in the meantime "Bush’s

I have no objections to Jeb Bush running for president. He obviously has a wide appeal as a potential candidate. (Snip) His support of Common Core, however, will also find many who are in the conservative ranks objecting, since they fear that Common Core represents educational centralism and having the government ram federal standards down their throats. What I do object to is that Bush is already being heralded as the obvious candidate, the man to whom the big money must and will flow. If Betsey McCaughey is correct (and I bet she is, because she has not only read the entire ObamaCare bill, she has written a book about it), Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan publicly humiliated herself during the oral arguments on the Hobby Lobby case, revealing that she either did not read the law, or failed to comprehend it if she did so. Writing in the New York Sun, McCaughey lays out what is wrong with the Justice’s declaration about Obamacare: she asserted that the statute itself mandates provision of birth control. Not one word in the Affordable Care Act guarantees health plans will cover birth control products.

Former U.S. Senator Bob Kerrey thinks President Barack Obama, a fellow Democrat, was re-elected in 2012 because he ´sucked less´ than former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. The Nebraskan straight-talker told MailOnline in an exclusive interview that Obama isn´t up to the job of bringing liberals and conservatives to the table to rescue America´s slowly choking entitlement programs. And Obama, he said Wednesday in his Manhattan office, knew full well he was lying when he promised that the Affordable Care Act would allow Americans to keep insurance plans they liked. ´He had to know he was misleading the audience,´ Kerrey said

YOKOHAMA, Japan — Climate change is already having sweeping effects on every continent and throughout the world’s oceans, scientists reported Monday, and they warned that the problem is likely to grow substantially worse unless greenhouse emissions are brought under control. The report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, a United Nations group that periodically summarizes climate science, concluded that ice caps are melting, sea ice in the Arctic is collapsing, water supplies are coming under stress, heat waves and heavy rains are intensifying, coral reefs are dying, and fish and many other creatures are migrating toward the poles or

A National Labor Relations Board official has given the green light to Northwestern University football players to form a union. The March 26 decision by the NLRB´s Chicago regional director, Peter Sung Ohr, held that scholarship football players are "employees" for purposes of federal labor law. Ohr rejected the longstanding view of Northwestern and the National Collegiate Athletic Association that players are "student-athletes" rather than employees. The new rules set rear visibility standards that automakers will initially be able to meet only by installing cameras. Drinking Earl Grey tea could help guard against heart disease, it has emerged, after a study found that bergamot extract--a key ingredient in the hot drink--is just as effective as statins at controlling cholesterol. Scientists believe bergamot, a fragrant Mediterranean citrus fruit which gives Earl Grey tea its distinctive flavour, can significantly lower cholesterol. They say it contains enzymes known as HMGF (hydroxy methyl glutaryl flavonones) which can attack proteins in the body known to cause heart disease. The study found bergamot could even be as effective as statins, used to control cholesterol but which can have side effects in
