Team Romney Still Confident
Despite Trailing Early in Florida

Breitbart's Big Government, by Michael Patrick Leahy

Original Article

Posted By:Dreadnought, 11/6/2012 9:40:47 PM

Despite trailing President Obama by 51% to 49% in Florida at 8:50 pm eastern with 59% of the precincts reporting, the Romney campaign remains confident they will win Florida. The results so far don't include the results from the conservative western panhandle of the state. Romney holds a 3 point lead in North Carolina and a double digit lead in Virginia as returns to continue to be reported in those two swing states. Most pre-election polls showed Romney with a comfortable 3 to 5 point lead in Florida. It will be difficult, though not impossible

I think this article is screwed up. Although it is only a few minutes old (PDT) if Romney loses Florida it's just over.

NCAA upsets crush perfect bracket hopes

The billion dollar dream is over. A second day of upsets ended any chance of someone having a perfect NCAA tournament bracket in Warren Buffet´s $1 billion challenge. It was a favorite that provided the first blemish on the final three people´s brackets in the Quicken Loans contest on the Yahoo Sports website. All three had ninth-seeded George Washington beating Memphis. The Tigers won 71-66. "If Warren Buffett wants to donate the (billion) to our university, we will take it and use it in good company," Memphis coach Josh Pastner said. "We´ll find a way." It only took 25 games

Republicans on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee are pressing the Department of Justice for more information about contact government lawyers reportedly made with Lois Lerner, the former IRS employee at the center of the scandal over the IRS’s targeting of tea party groups for special scrutiny. The fresh push from committee chairman Darrell Issa of California and committee member Jim Jordan of Ohio is a signal the GOP will continue to pursue possible contempt charges against Ms. Lerner after she invoked the fifth amendment right against self-incrimination on two occasions when called before the committee. “For over eight

Does our Constitution guarantee the freedom of religion, or does it merely allow a more limited freedom to worship? The difference is profound. Worship is an event. Religion is a way of life. Specifically, does the First Amendment guarantee believers of all faiths the freedom to practice their ethics, educate their children and operate family businesses based on their religious beliefs, moral convictions and freedom of conscience? Do Americans have the freedom to place our beliefs and ethics at the center of our business practices — or must we ignore them when we form a company? These questions will be

Rand Paul: The most intriguing

Rand Paul is the most intriguing — and for Democrats, perhaps the most frightening — figure in today’s Republican Party. The Kentucky senator, who is more than flirting with a 2016 presidential run, is making a smart play for the millennial generation that was key to President Obama’s twin victories and that his own party has convincingly repelled. Paul’s unlikely pilgrimage to the progressive precincts of the University of California at Berkeley offered the most convincing evidence so far that he is serious about carving out this (sorry, President Clinton) third way space — and a demonstration of his potential

Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370
search tests limits of satellites
Washington Post, by Joel Achenbach and Scott Higham    Original Article

The disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 has exposed the technological limits of satellites, which can see a license plate from space — if not necessarily read it — but struggle to find a missing jetliner. These limits are shaped by physics, money and practicality. Military and commercial satellites are not closely observing and amassing data about the blank places on the map in lightly traveled seas — such as remote areas of the Indian Ocean thousands of miles from where Flight MH370 vanished from radar. There’s also a trade-off when scrutinizing the surface from space: You can go wide

When the National Zoo’s female sloth bear, Khali, delivered three cubs last December, she consumed one of them right after it was born. Carnivores do this in the wild when there is a sick offspring. A deceased cub in the den can draw predators, the zoo said. But a week later, when Khali consumed a second cub, keepers feared for the third. So for the first time in the zoo’s history, keepers took a sloth bear cub from its mother to raise by hand. Three months later, after weeks of incubators, midnight feedings and quiet sessions in a rocking chair,

Early in the Ukraine crisis, when the Europeans were working on bringing Ukraine into the EU system and Vladimir Putin was countering with threats and bribes, one British analyst lamented that “we went to a knife fight with a baguette.” That was three months ago. Life overtakes parody. During the Ukrainian prime minister’s visit to Washington last week, his government urgently requested military assistance. The Pentagon refused. It offered instead military ration kits. Putin mobilizes thousands of troops, artillery and attack helicopters on Ukraine’s borders and Washington counters with baguettes, American-style. Russian mockery of President Obama has taken a bizarre turn. The newly elected Prime Minister of Crimea, Sergey Aksyonov, has tweeted (in Russian) a photoshopped image of Barack Obama in a Russian military uniform, implying that our president’s behavior can be explained by his purported status as a deep cover Russian agent. Oleg Atbashian of The People’s Cube, a former Soviet propagandist who fled to the West, has a fascinating post explaining what is going on here. Such a jab could have easily come from conservative jokesters in the U.S., as a way to vent their bitterness over Obama´s inept

I think most of us had worked that out. “What we are going to do,” Obama declared “is mobilize all of our diplomatic resources to make sure that we’ve got a strong international coalition that sends a clear message.” The clear message will be this — please, please don’t invade more territory. In ruling out military action, Obama explained that “the Ukrainians don’t want [an actual war with Russia], nobody would want that.” But if Russia continues to devour their country, the Ukrainians are no less

Those regulations remain in place despite John C. Federal officials have no qualms flying the friendly skies in style, regularly using executive jets and other planes in the government’s fleet of 1,700 aircraft for everyday travel. But they often don’t track how much such trips cost or the reasons why they skipped cheaper commercial flights in favor of firing up one of Uncle Sam’s aircraft. And lawmakers in Congress — usually charged with overseeing or reining in such expenditures — have their own addiction to luxury travel with a growing tendency to fly first class. Those findings by two separate watchdogs in Congress are the latest examples of a

In 2011, over 8,000 kids were suspended from preschool — preschool! — in America. More than half were black, despite comprising less than half of the student population. The odds are probably better than even that you will be annoyed by that. Which is fine. I accept that response. And there are a lot of possibilities that could explain how this bit of data is an aberration. As the Associated Press reports, the

That goes beyond hypocritical, and I think the American media and the international media has every right to call her and the Obama administration on that — that they permitted that to happen,” said Tom Whalen, a political history professor at Boston University. “It makes you shake your head, albeit sadly.” The first lady stopped at Peking University in Beijing yesterday
