Fear of looting grips NYC as
new storm threatens

Associated Press, by Tom Hays & Colleen Long

NEW YORK - Richard Chan prowled around his cold, dark Staten Island home with knives and a sword to protect it from thieves, standing his ground as another East Coast storm threatened and police went door-to-door with loudspeakers warning people to get out. "I still have some valuables. I just can't leave it," he said Tuesday. "I just don't want to lose my stuff to some dirtbag." While city officials strongly encouraged storm-ravaged communities to seek higher ground before Wednesday's nor'easter, Chan was among a group who adamantly refused to leave, choosing to stick close to the belongings

It is easy for me to sit here and tut-tut those in New York and surrounds that they should bug-out but they have gone through hell, they're shocked, and there is another storm headed their way.

I do not know if I would do anything differently than they so I will just pray they stay safe and wish them well.

Picking up a gallon of milk at the grocery store is getting pricier and the cost could hit a record high for U.S. consumers in March, analysts warned. Strong global demand and stagnant production in other countries has led to increased exports of U.S. dairy products in recent months, generating more money for dairy farmers but resulting in likely price hikes of 10-20 percent at the retail level in some markets, according to analysts. "Demand has been greater than supply for the last several months," said U.S. dairy analyst Jerry Dryer. "Prices are peaking."

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has a message for Donald Trump about BuzzFeed blogger McKay Coppins, and it´s one that other Republican officials might heed when liberal journalists come looking to "humanize" them. "This nervous geek isn´t fit to tie the Donald´s wingtips," Palin told Breitbart News after Trump ripped Coppins for lampooning him with what he alleged were out-of-context quotes and boorish behavior at Trump´s Florida resort. "Don´t ever give him attention again." Coppins tricked Trump´s advisers into thinking he would profile Trump as a potential "major" GOP 2016 presidential hopeful. The next presidential election will be more grounded in data, analytics and mirco-targeting of voters than ever before, President Obama’s former campaign manager said on Wednesday. Jim Messina said that the president’s 2012 reelection campaign only scratched the surface of what will soon be possible to get campaigns’ messages out to voters. “I think the evolution of campaigns on both sides will be an even further personalized campaign using data and marrying technology in a much deeper way than we did,” he said at the Beyond the Dot conference, an event on new domain names. “I think more and more

There’s both good news and bad news for Hillary Clinton coming out of the new Siena College and C-SPAN study on first ladies. The good news: Clinton tops the list when it comes to which first lady scholars see taking the Oval Office gig as well. Experts also suggested, but much less so than Clinton, that Eleanor Roosevelt and Michelle Obama would be good presidents, too. Speaking of Obama, with her inclusion on the list, Clinton got knocked down two spots. Clinton is now sixth on the first ladies ranking, whereas Obama entered the study in fifth place.

There´s a debate going on about Hillary Clinton´s past. If she runs for president in 2016, should Republicans reach back to the scandals of her years as First Lady? Or should they focus on more recent times, especially her tenure as Secretary of State, to build a case against her? The GOP doesn´t have to choose. Of course Clinton´s recent experiences are relevant to a presidential run. But so are her actions in the 90s, the 80s and even the 70s. It´s not ancient history; it reveals something about who Clinton was and still is. And re-examining her past is entirely consistent with practices in recent campaigns. In the 2012 presidential race,

The weirdest thing about John Kerry´s weekend speech on climate-change—other than the fact that this is the same guy who in 1997 voted to forbid the U.S. from signing the Kyoto Protocol—is that it begins by quoting something Maurice Strong said at the U.N.´s 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro: "Every bit of evidence I´ve seen persuades me that we are on a course leading to tragedy." Maurice who? Mr. Strong, a former oil executive from Canada (he was Pierre Trudeau´s pick to run state-owned Petro-Canada in the mid-1970s), was for many years the U.N.´s ultimate mandarin.
