| Sunday Off from the Watergate to Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, to do some speaking. Bob Noah at the wheel, Alex and I in the back seat as usual. I was asleep before we got out of the driveway. I awakened as we approached the Super Target in Bristow, Virginia. We eagerly went over to the door and walked into the emporium and then, disappointment: the deli counter there that had stocked the most delicious fried chicken made on the premises was totally rearranged. All they had was packaged chicken made somewhere else.

I like Ben Stein. I have been reading him for a long time, since he had a column in the now-defunct, old LA Herald-Examiner. But, this column is disturbing. It is like he is tripping out on something. For one thing, Jerry Falwell died in May, 2007, well before the 2008 election. And he seems to skip randomly between the present and the past. Ben, please tell me you are alright. Am I missing something?

I used to read Stein almost religiously back in the day when I got my conservative media via the magazine rack at Barnes & Noble...I always looked forward to buying the bundle of mags, if for no other reason than to make the little lefty at the check out steam from the ears when he saw the pile I was ready to plop money down. Stein's column was always one of the first to be read.
But lately, in the last few years he's gotten WEIRD. The moderate (at best) stance he has taken on policies, especially where Obama is concerned, has had me truly wishing I could send all those magazines back. What a waste.

OK, people, wake up. a) The Jerry Falwell to whom he refers is the SON of the first Jerry Falwell, who is indeed no longer with us. 2) This reads at times nonsensically because it's a diary. Ben Stein is the same treasure he's always been.

If America were a bus, Deneen Borelli would be the new Rosa Parks. Borelli is the very model of a human being, an African American and a woman who is just plain tired up to here at all of the back of the bus treatment dished by liberals — black and white alike — to conservatives who happen to be black. A country that stakes its future on lies will not have one. The fashionable lie of the moment is “gay marriage.” The push to deprive children of mothers and fathers for the sake of “genderless” marriage has never been stronger. The media propaganda about its “inevitability” is unremitting. One would think, judging by all the triumphant rhetoric heard this week, that over 30 states had approved it. In fact, over 30 states have banned it. According to the Washington Post, which just a few weeks ago was categorizing Christians as racists, the issue is all settled and done.

It was bad enough for the Obama administration to earn an overall grade of C-minus on its level of transparency from the independent watchdog group Cause of Action. When coupled with evidence of what is being hidden, the information makes the administration look even worse. This may sound odd coming from someone who has spent his life working in political reporting, but I find it extremely sad when people can’t separate politics from the rest of their lives. I’m not talking about people getting worked up about politicians; we live in divided times, so things are bound to get heated when talking about elected officials. I’m talking about people who say “I want nothing to do with [Person X] because he is a conservative/liberal/Republican/Democrat in his personal life.” This is why I find the Orson Scott Card thing so frustrating.

Last week, President Obama told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos that “we don’t have an immediate crisis in terms of debt.” It was par for the course (after all, he is almost always golfing) for the nation’s chief executive who just last year did not know the amount of our nation’s debt and made the preposterously naive statement that “a lot of it we owe to ourselves.” Apparently, our coming debt crisis is the only one Democrats do want to go to waste.

If President Obama’s rhetoric on domestic policy can be said to have a coherent theme, it involves his desire to use government to create a level playing field in which no single segment of the electorate enjoys unfair advantages or suffers disproportionate disadvantages in the pursuit of happiness. He is particularly concerned, he tells us, that the “rich” pay their fair share while poor and minority Americans receive their just due. Somehow, though, every policy decision made by his administration seems to tilt the playing field against the latter.

Celebrities are now upset about fracking, the injection of chemicals into the ground to crack rocks to release oil and gas. Since he first became a presidential candidate, President Obama must have spent millions of dollars in legal expenses to combat dozens of so-called "birther" challenges seeking the original documents pertaining to his birth. As president, he famously issued an electronic document on the White House website in 2011; the document purported to be his long-form birth certificate, though it is apparently a forgery. In light of the explosions that have rocked Boston on Patriots’ Day, during the city’s annual marathon, NBC reporter Luke Russert took to Twitter to speculate that today’s horrific events could possibly be related to the 1993 government siege on the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas — an incident often attached to conversations about “right-wing terrorism” and anti-government violence. “I was at Fenway Park w my dad and @mikebarnicle during Waco which was on Patriots Day in 1993. The Saudi Arabian man who is reportedly in police custody following the Boston Marathon bombing was chased and tackled by bystanders shortly after the blast, according to CBS. Senior correspondent John Miller, a former assistant director of the FBI, reported this: There is an individual in custody … he is not free to go.
