The lonely legacy of my Sex And The City lifestyle*

| Like everyone, I think and worry about the future and wonder where I’ll be in the final decade or so of my life. With at least another 20 years of work ahead of me, I don’t know whether I’ll be comfortably off or stony broke, and I hope that the good health I’ve enjoyed so far won’t desert me later on. One thing I’m pretty sure of, though, is that I’ll be on my own, with no spouse to look out for me or children to visit.

Comments: * Full title: The lonely legacy of my Sex And The City lifestyle: Claudia Connell gives a painfully honest account of how she came to be living alone in middle-age
She notes that even Carrie and Bridget eventually settled down but in real life she likely does not have the chance.

i don't understand how anyone could not foresee the consequences of living a selfish life past the point where youthful attractiveness helps to entice a man to marry you. When aging Boomer men start dying off, there will be millions of older women, very few younger people per capita to support them, and these younger people will be buried under huge government debt. It's going to be a perfect storm of consequences.

This is what happened to my old girlfriend and ex-fiance from the '60's. She chose the free-love lifestyle over a stable relationship and now is bitter old single lady devoid of family and true friends. I feel sorry for her.

fta: When it came to men, our attitude to them was the same as it was towards the latest must-have handbag: only the best would do, no compromises should be made, and even then it would be quickly tired of and cast aside. ~~~
And now you are exactly where you designed your life to end up. Old, alone, and unwanted and that is how you will die unless you make some serious changes in your attitude. Is it any shock men don't want you now?
No pity from my corner. I am one of those women you pitied, insulted, and belittled. I am one of those women who married in her 20's and had a child and gave up a career for love, companionship, and stability. No regrets... you can not say the same.

FTA: "Being single still has some incredible upsides — the biggest being the disposable income and the freedom to self-indulge."
How sad that in this entire article there is nothing to indicate what she has done for others. Instead, she has lived her life for herself. She thinks it might be a good thing to have someone to cook for. Didn't she ever have a friend or neighbor who needed that?
FTA: "I’d urge them to continue having the time of their life … but also, perhaps, to keep one eye on the lonely middle-age that is waiting to knock on their door."
It doesn't have to be that way. Instead of waiting for someone to knock on her door, why doesn't she knock on someone's door instead? You don't have to go far to find someone who needs a friend. And that's a good remedy for loneliness. Her selfishness will never cure that.

It's a problem. But probably the woman's arrogance is the overarching problem. She won't settle for less than a perfect man: and how perfect is she and what efforts does she make to be more perfect?
These leftoids like hildebeast clitton want to throw out all the old wisdom but they really haven't solved the problems anew. It's a sort of vacuous monovision: I know what I don't like so I'll just improvise with what feels good.

We all make choices with our lives.
The more selfish the choices, the worst they tend to be in the long run.
She made a lot of selfish choices in her younger days. But, even at her age, there are a lot of eligible guys who would like to have a relationship with a woman like her. But old habits die hard, and she still wouldn't give those guys the time of day. Not handsome enough, don't make enough money, etc, etc, etc...

They cry into their child-free Louis Vuitton purse collection that the party is over, they are now past their sell-by date, and want their youth back so they can rectify their mistakes.

I know women like this too. Some are selfish and narcissistic, some aren't.
Part of the blame lies with our Leftist entertainment/media/advertiser complex that has pushed the "men (and fathers) are idiots -- who needs them?" meme for several decades now. "Murphy Brown" was just one of many manifestations in our pop culture media.
Even more to blame are the '60s feminists, especially Betty Friedan and her acolytes. Their motivation for destroying motherhood and the family came from their Marxist roots.
I'm sorry for the many women who were naive enough to got sucked in by these Leftists ... and then grew old and learned the truth too late.

The problem is, she wants to have it both ways. She wants to be in a relationship, but didn't pursue marriage. There is nothing wrong with being single if that is your choice or if it is your choice not to marry someone just for the sake of getting married. A bad marriage is worse than being single. But people have to acknowledge the choices they have made and live with them.

Too many women need to understand men aren't 'fixer-upers,' so stop with the bad boy nonsense. On the other hand selfish, ego centered people are always a pain. I'd say quit crying and get it in gear, but if she hasn't figured some of this out by now, probably not going to get a clue. First hint, spouses look out for each other, not just you.

RINO-hunting, the long-popular political sport that morphed in 2008 into a sort of hysteria-driven obsession, lately has become a suicide mission. RINO, of course, refers to Republicans In Name Only and is the pejorative term used against those who fail to march in lockstep with the so-called conservative base. I used “so-called” because, though the hard-right faction of the party tends to be viewed as The Base, this isn’t necessarily so. My guess is there are now more RINOs than those who, though evangelical in their zeal, are poison to their party’s ability to win national elections.

The House, under the leadership of Speaker John Boehner, has precipitated a postponement in the debt ceiling fight until May. (Snip) Dealt a weak hand, Boehner managed to 99% outfox, on tax policy, a president who had the massive apparatus of the executive branch, the Senate majority, and a left-leaning national elite media whooping it up for a whopping tax increase. Even more impressively, Boehner pulled it off with steady nerves while under heavy pressure from the anti-spending hawks in his own caucus.

The horrific massacre of the innocents in Newtown was bound to result in a search for preventive action so that nothing like it could ever happen again, and hence also for its real or final cause. (Snip) Second, even if he had agreed to consult a psychiatrist, there is no certainty that the psychiatrist could have done anything for him and thus averted the disaster. Nor would the psychiatrist necessarily have had any reason to suspect a mass killing as a possible outcome in this case; the best predictor of future behavior is, after all, past behavior

"Lullay, Thou little tiny Child By by, lully, lullay..." The 16th-century Coventry Carol, a mother´s lament for her lost son, is the only song of the season about the other children of Christmas – the first-born of Bethlehem, slaughtered on Herod´s orders after the Magi brought him the not-so-glad tidings that an infant of that city would grow up to be King of the Jews. As Matthew tells it, even in a story of miraculous birth, in the midst of life is death. The Massacre of the Innocents loomed large over the Christian imagination: in Rubens´ two renderings,

From the New York Daily News: "Snooki Gives Kate Middleton Advice On Being A New Parent." Great! Maybe Kate could return the favor and give Snooki and her fellow Americans some advice. About fiscal prudence, for example. Say what you like about a high-living, big-spending, bloated, decadent parasitical, wastrel monarchy, but, compared to the citizen-executive of a republic of limited government, it´s a bargain. So, while the lovely Duchess of Cambridge nurses her baby bump, the equally radiant President of the United States nurses his ever more swollen debt belly.

If you want to understand why President Obama was reelected despite a largely unsuccessful presidency and almost unprecedentedly high and continuous unemployment, just look at the Cuban-American vote. (Snip) Democratic presidential nominees went from 25 percent of the Cuban-American vote in 2000, to 29 percent in 2004, to 35 percent in 2008, to 48 percent in 2012. Over the last couple of weeks, there has been great concern, whether sincere or fake, over the Republican “tone.” I find all this kind of dumb. Is there a great tuner in the sky, with a bass control, a treble control, and so on? Does some unseen, all-determining Republican hand twist these knobs? The Republican party is composed of millions of people and hundreds or thousands of politicians. These are all human beings. They could not possibly have the same tone. Charles Murray argues, admittedly impressionistically, that the Republican party’s social conservatism is turning off Asian Americans. Asians who became successful because everyone in the family worked two or three jobs (a common strategy behind Asian success) are likely to be offended by the liberal “You didn’t build that” mentality. Unlike every other minority group, Asians owe nothing to the Democrats for affirmative action. On the contrary, Asians are penalized by affirmative action, especially in the universities, where discrimination against Asian applicants (relative to their superb academic qualifications) has been documented in the technical literature.

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

There was growing buzz over the weekend that a bipartisan agreement on gun control — a deal that would expand background checks — could hit the floor as early as this week. However, any deal could be derailed by the looming threat of a Republican filibuster involving Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. With Cruz standing proudly in the way of any gun legislation, Democrats are trying to make him pay a political price — and even a couple of high-profile Republicans are questioning his tactics.
