Peru slammed reports that Movadef, the nascent political wing of the Shining Path armed group, had met with representatives of human rights groups in Argentina, including the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo Association, with the aim of gaining political credibility. Peru’s Foreign Minister, Rafael Roncagliolo, on Thursday “firmly deplored that members of (Movadef) had been received by representatives of non-governmental social organizations” in an official statement. According to the statement, Peru’s ambassador to Argentina, Nicolás Lynch, “held direct conversations with the Argentine

Argentina has been playing footsie with a lot of terrorists lately - FARC, a Chilean Marxist terrorist assassin they are shielding, Hezbollah, and now Shining Path. They are mice determined to become rats. Someone's got to stomp them before things get worse. They are all busy pontificating about terrorists' 'human rights.'

Colombia is deploying troops in the capital, Bogota, following violent protests in support of a strike by small-scale farmers. Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos said the troops were needed "to assure normality". Clashes with police broke out after thousands of people took to the streets in support of the farmers. At least two people have died. Farmers say government policies are driving them into bankruptcy. "Last night, I ordered the militarisation of Bogota and I will do the same today in any municipality or area that needs the presence of our soldiers," President Santos said in a televised address after an overnight cabinet meeting.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) is trying to regain credibility with the conservative base by helping Sens. Ted Cruz (R-FL), Mike Lee (R-UT) and Rand Paul (R-KY) with their effort to defund Obamacare in the upcoming Continuing Resolution (CR), but Tea Party activists are still placing pressure on the junior Senator. “Amid a smattering of boos and yells of ‘no amnesty,’ Sen. Marco Rubio waded through a rowdy summer-recess crowd on Friday where he tried to focus more on the push to defund ObamaCare than the ongoing debate over immigration legislation,” Fox News’ Serafin Gomez reports from Orlando’s Americans for Prosperity Summit. Israel plans to soon begin deporting migrants from Eritrea and Sudan, who number more than 50,000, back to Africa via Uganda, officials said. Israel regards most of the Africans as illegal visitors in search of jobs, and largely rejects the position of human rights groups that many fled their countries in search of political asylum. A statement late on Thursday from interior minister Gideon Sa´ar said Israel would soon begin a staged process of deporting the migrants, most of whom have crossed the border with Egypt since 2006. Sa´ar said an agreement had been reached with Uganda to absorb the "infiltrators", who would

Financial Fascism: Bank of America, which was coerced into buying Merrill Lynch during the 2008 financial crisis, is now quietly dissolving the storied 99-year-old investment bank. This is destruction, and not the creative kind. As if the U.S. government´s $700 billion Troubled Assets Relief Program weren´t bad enough just as a bailout, there´s the specter and now fallout of government meddling on a scale that can only be compared to Mussolini´s corporate state. In the panic of the 2008 financial crisis, solvent BofA was ordered by government regulators to purchase Merrill Lynch, a bank it didn´t want, for $18.5 billion. After that, it

It’s not often that Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Rand Paul (R-Ky.) are on the same page when it comes to foreign policy. But the crisis in Egypt has aligned them on at least one issue. Both favor suspending foreign aid to the most populous Arab country. Here’s a key part of McCain’s joint statement with Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.): “It is neither in our long-term national interest nor consistent with our values and laws to continue providing assistance at this time to Egypt’s interim government and military. We urge the Obama Administration to suspend U.S. assistance to Egypt and

WASHINGTON — Facing faltering support in foreign capitals and Congress for a strike against Syria, the Obama administration on Friday made an aggressive and coordinated push to justify a military intervention on the grounds that American credibility was at stake. One day after the British Parliament voted against an attack on Syria, a stunning blow to White House plans for a broad coalition to punish President Bashar al-Assad of Syria for a mass killing in the suburbs of Damascus last week, President Obama and his top aides gave every indication that they were in final preparations for an attack that

The Obama administration is today still reeling from Thursday’s enormous setback to the Syria intervention effort, as the UK voted to reject military intervention in the war-torn nation. It is difficult to overestimate just how devastating this is to the President’s foreign policy. Britain has stood side by side with America in almost every post-war conflict. The one major exception was the Vietnam War, arguably America’s biggest ever defeat. Put simply, America wins when it goes in with Britain, it loses when it does not. And Britain almost always stands shoulder to shoulder with its strongest ally. So what happened?

Barack Obama’s presidency has not been about restraining the powers of the presidency. On major issues both domestic and international — immigration, environmental regulation, the war in Libya, and more — Obama has shown no hesitation to act unilaterally in areas that properly lie within the purview of Congress. But now, the president says that even though he has decided the U.S. should attack the Syrian regime over its use of chemical weapons, he will ask Congress to give him permission to do so. It’s not entirely clear why Obama has decided to exercise restraint now when he has not done
