Hurricane-relief Guardsmen tossed out
of armory - for Victoria's Secret show

New York Post, by Tara Palmeri and David K. Li

Original Article

Posted By:Drive, 11/5/2012 11:47:36 AM

The Victoria’s Secret show must go on — even if it means kicking out hardworking men and women in uniform. Dozens of National Guardsmen, and Army and Air Force personnel who have been sleeping at Manhattan’s Lexington Armory in between hurricane-relief shifts are being booted — to make room for Victoria’s Secret models in anticipation of Wednesday’s runway show. About 300 uniformed personnel have been bunking down at the armory at various times since Sandy hit.

"When the hurricane hit the armory of the New York Army National Guard's 69th Infantry Regiment, leaving soldiers without power, Internet or hot water, the officers reached out to Victoria's Secret. The lingerie brand had already begun the setup for its annual fashion show (which will take place at the armory in New York City on Wednesday).

According to Wired, via The Cut, the fashion show setup included eight generators, and producers turned the lights on early to help the National Guard. “We were dead in the water until Victoria’s Secret showed up,” Capt. Brendan Gendron, the Regiment’s operations officer, told Wired.

Victoria's Secret provided not only heat and light to the National Guard. It also activated its T1 line, so with the help of a few routers, the soldiers were able to get back online."

So what is it did they help or not help?

On New Year’s Eve in 2011, software developer Robin Seggelmann was in front of his computer trying to work out some kinks in the security software most of the Internet uses. That’s when he made a mistake, which led to one of the worst bugs ever in the Internet known as “Heartbleed,” a flaw in the security infrastructure (OpenSSL) for a large swath of the Web. Nowadays, it’s unusual for someone to step up and take responsibility, But Seggelmann, a German developer, did just that.

I never wanted to be a pawn in President Obama’s absurd and irresponsible attempt to mandate, regulate and complicate the American health care system. Unfortunately, there wasn’t much of a choice. I was a casualty of Mr. Obama’s Big Lie. NEW YORK — Millions of passwords, credit card numbers and other personal information may be at risk as a result of a major breakdown in Internet security revealed earlier this week. The damage caused by the "Heartbleed" bug is currently unknown. The security hole exists on a vast number of the Internet´s Web servers and went undetected for more than two years. While it´s conceivable that the flaw was never discovered by hackers, it´s nearly impossible to tell. Many of those deaths involve handguns. The adoption of rules that will lessen the number of those incidents should be a matter of primary concern to both federal and state legislators.
