Economy slowing crawling back
four years after 2008 election

Chicago Sun-Times, by Francine Knowles

Original Article

Posted By:brianod1, 11/5/2012 8:35:05 AM

Flashback 2008: job losses in free fall, a housing market boom gone bust and credit markets in crisis amid the Great Recession. Four years later, the U.S. economy continues to climb out of the hole that engulfed it at a still sluggish pace, and economists say it will take many months to regain all the millions of jobs lost. Since the darkest days of the recession, which began in December 2007 and ended June 2009, the job market has gone from losing a high of 818,000 jobs in January 2009 to adding jobs for 25 straight months

Comments:
No endorsements from the paper, but plenty of free "good news" for the incumbent, even if they have to make it up.

Economists are not talkine about "many months", they are talking about a DECADE.

This stiry makes it sound like we'll have prosperity and apple pie back by next Easter. All by simply continuing to do what has failed to accomplish the same feat over the last four years.

Just remember "It's Bush's fault". Still blaming his predecessor four years later, how presidential.

The sooner this pathetic manchild is relegated to historys dustbin the better.

Economy picking up? Jobs and companies hiring? Sure, many are hiring for 20 hours a week for the holiday season. That isn't what this country needs. We need real jobs with full time hours and steady employment. Anyone who can think for themselves knows that jobs picking up this time of year is for holiday sales and nothing permanent.

A search of all islands in the Andaman and Nicobar archipelago has drawn a naught, so far as the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 is concerned, officials of the Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) confirmed on Saturday evening. Two Indian Navy ships, along with those from other nations, are continuing their search at the location pointed out by Malaysian authorities but nothing has been spotted on the water. Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 disappeared on March 8, 2014 on the way to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur. "There has been no oil slick, no flotsam or a sonar ping to indicate that the jetliner crashed anywhere

Former Mayor Richard M. Daley says he doesn’t remember much about the planning of Millennium Park, his wildly over-budget project that has become one of Chicago’s civic treasures. The sprawling downtown park, with its gleaming stainless-steel sculpture known as “The Bean,” is seen as one of his crowning achievements. Daley, though, shrugs it off. N

Battling gang violence has been one of Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s top priorities. But one of Emanuel’s top appointees, CTA Chairman Terry Peterson, appears to have taken a different tack in the mid-1990s: Lobbying for the early release of the imprisoned leader of the Gangster Disciples — one of the largest and deadliest street gangs in Chicago, the Better Government Association has learned.

As if the city doesn´t have enough problems with crime, budget deficits, and school cuts and closings, Mayor Emanuel has decided to barrel headfirst into the South Loop real estate market—with at least $55 million of your property tax funds. The key moment came at the July 24 City Council meeting, when he hammered through an ordinance giving the city eminent domain authority to buy property at Indiana and Cermak. He plans to have a hotel built there. A couple days later, the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority—the city-state agency that oversees Navy Pier and McCormick Place

Amid a spate of incursions by China in Ladakh, its troops are also resorting to tactics like preventing Indian Army from patrolling posts in this sector along the border which was well within India´s territory. In what is being described as an aggressive approach by China, the tactics have come to the fore in the wake of yet another incident last week when Indian troops launched its patrol "Tiranga" from Trade Junction area in north of Ladakh for two posts located 14 km up in the higher reaches along the line of actual control (LAC).

Using anti-science exuberance, for the last few days, the media have pom-pommed someone´s ethereal projection that the economy had created 200,000 or so jobs in July. The fact that our media would consider 200,000 jobs (which hardly keeps up with population growth) worthy of pom-poms is grotesque enough. Even more appalling is spinning manufactured positive news-cycles for President Obama based on proven nonsense like the ADP´s jobs projections.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel will not raise sales or property taxes to close a $338.7 million gap in next year’s budget but all bets are off in 2015, when the shortfall balloons to $1 billion without pension reform, a top mayoral aide said Wednesday. In 2015, the city is required by state law to make a $600 million contribution to stabilize police and fire pension funds that now have assets to cover just 30.5 and 25 percent of their respective liabilities.

Survey data exclusive to The Associated Press points to an increasingly globalized U.S. economy, the widening gap between rich and poor and loss of good-paying manufacturing jobs as reasons for the trend. The findings come as President Barack Obama tries to renew his administration´s emphasis on the economy,

Obamacare, the plan purportedly created to provide health coverage for the uninsured, has enrolled just 1.7% of America´s 48.6 million uninsured. A National Labor Relations Board official has given the green light to Northwestern University football players to form a union. Ohr rejected the longstanding view of Northwestern and the National Collegiate Athletic Association that players are "student-athletes" rather than employees. A few months back, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius stated for the record that 7 million Obamacare sign-ups by the end of March would constitute success. She was clear about it. But then February came, and February always stinks. It’s just a lousy month. You’re tired of winter, you’re still miles away from spring, and no one was signing up for Obamacare. That 7 million figure looked totally unreachable. So Sebelius does what every other member of the Obama administration does when confronted with inconvenient facts. She lied. Drinking Earl Grey tea could help guard against heart disease, it has emerged, after a study found that bergamot extract--a key ingredient in the hot drink--is just as effective as statins at controlling cholesterol. Scientists believe bergamot, a fragrant Mediterranean citrus fruit which gives Earl Grey tea its distinctive flavour, can significantly lower cholesterol. They say it contains enzymes known as HMGF (hydroxy methyl glutaryl flavonones) which can attack proteins in the body known to cause heart disease. The study found bergamot could even be as effective as statins, used to control cholesterol but which can have side effects in
