| The nephew of serial killer John Wayne Gacy tearfully declared his innocence to a McHenry County judge Thursday and sought to distance himself from his notorious uncle before his sentencing for the sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl. Judge Joseph P. Condon then handed down a 24-year prison term for Raymond Kasper, who was convicted in July of predatory criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse — even though the girl denied from the witness stand that the crimes took place.

Well race horses are different. Not a very good analogy. While mental illness CAN run in families, it is not necessarily genetic. I don't know enough to make an educated guess, but I do know that people get railroaded more often than you'd believe. And then remember McMartin and the false memories. What if it was actually one of her own family members who did it?? Too many questions.

The FBI’s decision to interrogate the Boston marathon bombing suspect before reading him the Miranda warnings has been extensively criticized by civil libertarians. Meanwhile, on the other side, conservatives like Lindsey Graham (R-SC) went even further in their disagreement, suggesting that Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev should be interrogated as a “potential enemy combatant.” (Even Graham, however, eventually acknowledged that, as a U.S. citizen, Tsarnaev could not be tried in a military commission and “any time we question him about his guilt or innocence, he’s entitled to his Miranda rights and a lawyer.”)

It was probably too much to hope that the chattering classes would keep their desire to spin the tragedy in Boston in check for long. Filling the air and the Web with copy in the absence of any real information about who is responsible for the bombing at the Boston Marathon places a real burden on those who comment about such things to avoid sending the discussion off the deep end. Though there are some exceptions, such as MSNBC’s Chris Matthews (who couldn’t wait to speculate about the bombs being planted by radical right-wingers)

What is it like to be a Muslim, or a person frequently mistaken for a Muslim, in the aftermath of an apparent terrorist attack? Americans who don´t fit that description can´t really know for sure, but three news items from the last few days show that knee-jerk prejudice is inexcusably common. If your ethnic group were treated this way, you´d be walking around paranoid and anxious. Innocent victim number one is a 20-year-old Saudi who is studying in the Boston area. He was watching the marathon when the force of the bomb blast tore into him.

A bipartisan group of Senate negotiators signaled Tuesday night that it has reached a deal in principle on expanding background checks to include more gun sales, in what was widely seen as the major sticking point on the biggest gun control legislation to reach the floor since 1994. It’s bad enough that RNC Chairman Reince Priebus has decided to continue the relationship with failed Romney consultants Targeted Victory to send the RNC’s mass emails. What’s so harrowing is the cynicism and sloppiness Targeted Victory brings to the table to fulfill that contract. One would think that Targeted Victory, in fulfilling the RNC email contract, would take extreme care and would want to remove any taint of the Romney campaign from the RNC emails. (Targeted Victory invoiced the failed Romney campaign for over $17 million.) But one would be wrong in making that assumption.

It’s uncanny. Unless, of course, it isn’t. The sons of two famous politicians made their potential presidential stand at CPAC — each son having achieved elective office on his own. Yet somehow… in some strange, perhaps not so mysterious fashion… each son sounds… like… yes indeed: Dad 2.0. Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush sounds like ex-President Dad George H.W. Bush, not to mention ex-President Brother George W. Kentucky Senator Rand Paul takes the Senate floor for a champion filibuster, followed by a CPAC speech, sounding ever so more than slightly like former presidential candidate and now ex-Congressman Dad Ron Paul.

The Council on American Islamic Relations again offered sympathy to victims of the Boston Marathon bombing on Friday, but added a plea for Americans not to generalize and conclude that Muslim teachings influenced the suspect in any way. Washington — The governor of Massachusetts says he has no idea what motivated the terrorists who exploded two bombs near the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Speaking Sunday on CBS’ ”Face the Nation,” Deval (deh-VAL’) Patrick said it’s hard to imagine why someone would deliberately harm, quote “innocent men, women and children in the way that these two fellows did.” Patrick also said law enforcers believe the immediate threat ended when the police killed one of the alleged terrorists and captured the other. The two men were brothers whose family had come to the U.S.

Menino tells ABC's "This Week" that he agreed with the decision to lock down Boston all day Friday, based on information officials had at the time. CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — A Massachusetts police official say the brothers suspected of bombing the Boston Marathon before having shootouts with authorities didn´t have gun permits. Cambridge Police Commissioner Robert Haas tells The Associated Press in an interview Sunday that neither Tamerlan Tsarnaev (tsahr-NEYE´-ehv) nor his brother Dzhokhar had permission to carry firearms. He says it´s unclear whether either ever applied and the applications aren´t considered public records.
