| Mia Love leads incumbent Rep. Jim Matheson (D-Utah) by double digits in the race to represent Utah’s newly drawn 4th congressional district, according to a new poll. Love, the mayor of Saratoga Springs, is ahead of Matheson 52-40 percent in a Salt Lake Tribune poll released overnight. The two candidates have been locked in a hotly contested and expensive contest that comes with a price tag of at least $10 million. Earlier polls indicated that the race looked to be a nail-biter. But in the latest survey, Matheson — a six-term congressman

the commercials here in Utah by Matheson, are way out of control, taking words out of context and some twisted truth to sound like lies. Apperently Matheson has never found a school union teacher who needed more money to teach that was wrong. His adds have been focusing on How Mia Love wants to defund the NEA... I say stop them dead in their tracks right now.

Have been hearing some great RNC ads in the SLC market where they compare Obama speeches with Matheson speeches. Matheson has adopted a lot of Zero's phrasing and theming. So satisfying to see him painted as the Dem that he is.

BEIJING - A confrontation involving axes, knives, at least one gun and ending with the burning down of a house left 21 people dead in China´s troubled far-west region of Xinjiang, a government spokeswoman said on Wednesday, calling it a "terrorist attack". It was the deadliest violence in the region since July 2009, when Xinjiang´s capital, Urumqi, was rocked by clashes between majority Han Chinese and minority Uighurs that killed nearly 200 people. Nine residents, six police and six ethnic Uighurs were killed in Tuesday´s drama, said Hou Hanmin, spokeswoman for the Xinjiang government.

The U.S. economy has recovered for households with net worth of $500,000 or more, a new study shows. The recession continues for almost everyone else. Wealthy households boosted their net worth by 21.2 percent in the aftermath of the recession, according to the study released today by the Pew Research Center. The rest of America lost 4.9 percent of household wealth from 2009 to 2011. Pew attributed the disparity to gains during that period in the stock and bond markets, benefiting affluent households, while the housing market’s decline hit others harder. The report underscores the nation’s growing income inequality

The Tax Policy Center has a new estimate of tax rates under President Obama´s budget in the next ten years. What won´t surprise you is that taxes are going up -- way, way up -- on the richest percentile. What might surprise you is that taxes are also going up on just about everybody else, too, despite the president´s campaign promise to not raise taxes on families making less than $200,000. Politico and other publications are making a lot of hay about these higher middle-class taxes, which mostly come from cigarette taxes and a new inflation measure called chained-CPI.

CARACAS - President Nicolas Maduro´s government declared a 90-day "emergency" in Venezuela´s electricity sector on Tuesday to speed up infrastructure work and equipment imports needed to prevent politically-contentious power cuts. Officials have blamed periodic blackouts on sabotage and excessive consumption, while critics say the sector is suffering from poor management and inefficiency following the late socialist leader Hugo Chavez´s nationalization of the sector. Maduro, who won a vote to succeed his former mentor Chavez this month, has promised a government of "efficiency" to tackle day-to-day problems like power outages plaguing the South American nation´s

Was the Boston Marathon bombing the result of an intelligence failure? That’s the question members of the House and Senate intelligence committees will be asking senior FBI officials at closed hearings on Tuesday. In particular they and other lawmakers want to know how Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s six-month trip to Russia in 2011 and 2012 could have escaped the FBI’s attention, despite the fact that he had already been investigated for possible extremist ties. Senate intelligence panel chairman Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D) of California on Monday said she did not understand why the elder Tsarnaev brother’s visit

A bankruptcy trustee has sued Jon S. Corzine and other former MF Global executives, claiming they were “grossly negligent” in the lead up to the brokerage firm’s collapse. The action by the trustee, Louis J. Freeh, comes just weeks after he agreed to postpone the lawsuit and enter mediation with Mr. Corzine. It is unclear when those talks broke down. In the complaint filed in United States Bankruptcy Court late on Monday, Mr. Freeh took aim at Mr. Corzine, a former Democratic senator and New Jersey governor who became MF Global’s chief executive in 2010. CAIRO — The explosion of a car parked outside the French Embassy in Libya wounded two French guards on Tuesday in what appeared to be the first major terrorist attack on a diplomatic compound in the capital since the ouster of Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi in 2011. If deliberate, the blast would be the most significant such attack on a diplomatic facility in Libya since a siege of a United States outpost in Benghazi last September, in which Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and three other Americans were killed. A string of more minor attempted attacks on Western or United Nations diplomats

Police in Canada said Monday that two men suspected of plotting to derail a passenger train were guided by Al Qaeda elements in Iran, but the statement surprised many experts who study terrorism in the Middle East and Iran. “It frankly doesn’t compute for me,” said Barbara Slavin, a senior fellow at the Atlantic Council. "If there is any link, I would think it was extremely tangential." Iran and Al Qaeda have frequently had chilly relations, according to Slavin and other experts. Iran is majority Shiite, while Al Qaeda is firmly Sunni. In Syria, Al Qaeda has jumped

The 20th anniversary of Earth Day in 1990 was momentous for me for a simple reason: My second book, Saving the Earth, A Citizen’s Guide to Environmental Action, was published on that day. It was one of a handful of books that came out that spring—including Bill McKibben’s groundbreaking End of Nature—that attempted to draw attention to a handful of environmental concerns that we all saw at the time as being grave, though not very well understood. Climate change was one of those concerns. “Global warming” was a phrase just starting to be heard, in large part

In Obama´s Audacity of Hope, he stated, "I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in any ugly direction." He also asserted in Bob Woodward´s Obama´s Wars, "We can absorb [another] terrorist attack." These are two straightforward statements that raise the question of whether a man who has been seemingly obsessed with reaching out to "the Muslim world" since taking office is capable of fulfilling his duty as commander-in-chief to keep America safe and secure.

George W. Bush will return to the spotlight this week for the dedication of his presidential library, an event likely to trigger fresh public debate about his eight fateful years in office. But he reemerges with a better public image than when he left Washington more than four years ago. Since then, Bush has absented himself from both policy disputes and political battles. A new Washington Post-ABC News poll suggests that the passage of time and Bush’s relative invisibility have been beneficial to a chief executive who left office surrounded by controversy.

President Obama´s sequester scare strategy has been a political flop, but his government keeps trying. The latest gambit is to force airline flight delays until enough travellers stuck on tarmacs browbeat enough Republicans to raise taxes again. This week the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) began furloughing each of its air-traffic controllers for one day out of every 10 to achieve roughly $600 million in savings this fiscal year. The White House dubiously claims that the furloughs are required by the sequester spending cuts enacted in 2011.

Marathon bombings mastermind Tamerlan Tsarnaev was living on taxpayer-funded state welfare benefits even as he was delving deep into the world of radical anti-American Islamism, the Herald has learned. State officials confirmed last night that Tsarnaev, slain in a raging gun battle with police last Friday, was receiving benefits along with his wife, Katherine Russell Tsarnaev, and their 3-year-old daughter. The state’s Executive Office of Health and Human Services said those benefits ended in 2012 when the couple stopped meeting income eligibility limits. Russell Tsarnaev’s attorney has claimed Katherine — who had converted to Islam —

Citing administration emails provided to the House committees, the 46-page report claims that “to protect the State Department, the Administration deliberately removed references to al-Qaeda-linked groups and previous attacks

Apparently the latest craze in NYC is to let your babies’ freak flags fly by letting them go commando: When Jada Shapiro decided to raise her daughter from birth without diapers, for the most part, not everyone was amused. Ms. Shapiro scattered little bowls around the house to catch her daughter’s offerings, and her sister insisted that she use a big, dark marker to mark the bowls so that they could never find their way back to the kitchen. But “elimination communication,” as the diaper-free method of child-rearing is called,

Following the attack in Boston, some politicians, including Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Dan Coats (R-IN), advised slowing down immigration reform legislation in order to allow further debate and not make rushed decisions based on emotions. In an interview with Bloomberg’s Trish Regan, Sen. It’s completely racist. You’re picking up everybody at the lower level because mandatory minimum drug laws let you trade in to get off, so if you don’t have anyone to trade in, if you’re at the bottom, you’re going to jail," she said. “If you’re up at the top, you just trade in somebody
