| In the campaign’s final days, President Obama’s hopes of reelection may turn on his ability to assemble very different coalitions of support in the Sunbelt and the Rustbelt, a wave of new battleground state polling this week suggests. In diverse Sunbelt states like Virginia, Florida and Colorado, Obama is drawing enough backing from minorities and upscale white women to remain step-for-step with Mitt Romney, despite big deficits for the president among working-class whites and a substantial shortfall among college-educated white men in most of those states, according to detailed analyses of recent surveys provided to National Journal.

Why does the article lead off with a February 2012 photo of obama at a rally in Florida? Might it be because Florida crowds for obama are now miniscule in comparison?

Rust Belt supporters never fail to leave me shaking my head in disbelief.
They voted in higher taxes, unions/corruption, watched Democrats drive their cities and plants into the ground - literally at times - and still pulled the D lever.
Now they have no choice but to pull the D lever as they are now wards of the state.
Stockholm Syndrome seems too kind a term for this kind of psychosis.

Only one of my six children has left New York for economic reasons but the strain of living in this expensive nanny state is weighing heavy on my other five and their families. As a native New Yorker, I´ve seen its middle class population decline over the years due to its neglect of blue collar families which is ironic since this is a Democrat city. With the recent arrests of several local politicians for corruption perhaps New Yorkers will pay more attention to those they put in office. Given their past indifference in local elections this is highly unlikely.
