Six Enormous Stakes
In Presidential Election

Investor's Business Daily, by IBD Staff

Original Article

Every four years, presidential candidates talk about the enormous stakes of the coming election. But this year, it is no mere campaign platitude. In fact, rarely in American history has an election mattered more. The future of ObamaCare, the size and intrusiveness of government, tax rates, America's standing in the world, and the long-term makeup of the Supreme Court all rest on who occupies the White House for the next four years. Here are the stakes, should Obama win a second term:

Incredibly, millions will still vote for Obummer. I expect that from the Gimmedats, but I just can not understand why a reasonably intelligent working person would vote for the man. Just can't.

Poll: Focus On Jobs, Not
Income Gap Or Immigration

President Obama says he wants to focus his administration´s efforts on closing the income gap between rich and poor, and Republicans in Congress have vowed to make immigration reform a top priority this year. Both are wildly out of touch with the American public, according to the latest IBD/TIPP Poll. When asked which should be a top priority of the president and Congress, 49% say the economy and jobs. Another 16% say it should be the national debt. Nine percent name national security. Just 6% list income inequality as a top priority, and the same minuscule share say it should

In late October 2013, the Obama administration sent $41.9 million to Minnesota for its state-built health exchange. It was the sixth ObamaCare grant awarded the state, and all told taxpayers ponied up $155 million to help build MNSure. But just 13 weeks after that last grant arrived, an independent consultant issued a damning report, saying Minnesota should consider scrapping MNSure entirely and starting over from scratch, citing systemic technical and management problems. A "large gap exists between required functionality and what has been delivered," the report stated . The state is now deciding what to do next. Minnesota isn´t alone in wasting federal

More bad news for Gov. Chris Christie: New Jersey is dead last in the nation in terms of its fiscal solvency, according to a new report. The study, released this week by the free-market Mercatus Center at George Mason University, ranked each state´s financial health based on a variety of measures, such as cash on hand to pay its current bills, budget surpluses or deficits, unfunded liabilities and ability to provide adequate public services. The Mercatus study used 2012 data. New Jersey came in last on two of those measures — budget and long-term solvency — and finished in the bottom 15 in

ObamaCare, Obama Support

One in five Democrats now opposes ObamaCare, a record high, according to the latest IBD/TIPP Poll. And more than one in six Democrats now say they want it repealed, another new high. Overall, 55% of the public oppose the law, the highest since IBD/TIPP started asking this question in 2010. Just 37% support ObamaCare, matching a record low. And while support for outright repeal of the law inched down in January, that was because it fell among Republicans and independents. Among Democrats, support for repeal jumped 4 points. ObamaCare is also clearly driving down President Obama´s approval rating, which dropped to just 38%

ObamaCare´s Phony
Medicaid Promise Exposed

Failure: ObamaCare is driving millions of people into Medicaid, a program we now know does nothing to improve health and actually drives emergency-room use higher. A central premise of ObamaCare was that vastly expanding Medicaid would ultimately save health care dollars. The millions of uninsured gaining access to Medicaid would no longer crowd costly emergency rooms looking for care, the thinking went. And that improved access would keep them healthier. Turns out that neither of those claims is true. A study published late last week in the prestigious journal Science found that Medicaid actually increases emergency room use — by

ObamaCare: 5 Land Mines

With support for ObamaCare hitting all-time lows, the administration continues to cling to one bit of good news — the federal exchange website is working better than before. Healthcare.gov is "night and day compared to where we were back in October," Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius told a House committee last week. And the insurance industry — which didn´t want to send people to a bug-filled website — is starting to unleash various ad campaigns. But getting people to enroll is just one of many problems facing ObamaCare. Several other land mines could cause further damage over the

The public overwhelmingly opposes any ObamaCare bailout of the insurance industry, the latest IBD/TIPP Poll found, even as the Obama administration is paving the way to do just that. The survey found that 65% oppose a federal bailout of insurance companies that find their profits hit because not enough young, healthy people sign up for ObamaCare plans. Opposition is widespread, the poll of 907 adults found, with 51% of Democrats, 71% of Republicans and 76% of independents against it. It´s opposed by every age and demographic group as well. Although few people knew about it until recently, the health law contains a three-year

Millennials: Having failed to convince the public that ObamaCare is a good thing, President Obama on Wednesday tried selling his snake oil to young people. Turns out they aren´t buying it, either — nor should they. Despite the administration spending a fortune promoting ObamaCare, enlisting celebrities to endorse it, and telling moms to get their kids to sign up, most young people disapprove of the law. A Harvard University Institute of Politics survey of 18- to 29-year-olds found that 57% oppose ObamaCare. More than half think it will increase their costs, and a plurality (40%) believe it will hurt the quality of

Politics: We keep hearing about how the Republican Party is full of radical Tea Party crazies. But our latest IBD/TIPP Poll shows that it´s Democrats who are out of touch with reality and well outside the mainstream. The public overwhelmingly believes the country is headed in the wrong direction, that current economic policies aren´t working, that President Obama is doing a bad job, that government should be smaller and that ObamaCare should be repealed. But not Democrats. On issue after issue, in fact, Democrats are the outliers by wide margins, according to an analysis of the December IBD/TIPP survey.

Maybe the 10th time will be the charm for President Obama and his health care law. "The bottom line is this law is working, and will work into the future," Obama said Tuesday in a speech kicking off a month-long PR blitz for his signature legislation. "We´re not going back." Obama went on to highlight benefits he regularly touts, such as free preventive care, prescription drug savings for seniors, and the like. And he attacked the GOP for pushing for repeal. This is the 10th time the president has made public remarks defending ObamaCare since its disastrous launch on Oct.

Nearly four in 10 seniors worry ObamaCare will cause them to lose doctors they like, despite President Obama´s repeated promise to the contrary, according to the latest IBD/TIPP Poll. That translates into nearly 16 million people age 65 and over. Their concerns appear to be justified. Many seniors are, in fact, already losing access to their doc tors, and more than half a million are losing access to plans they liked this year, as $200 billion in ObamaCare-mandated cuts to the popular Medicare Advantage program start to take effect. Earlier this month, seniors learned that UnitedHealth (UNH) is dropping thousands

Just 18% of the uninsured have bothered to go to one of the ObamaCare exchange websites, according to a recent Gallup survey. And only 22% say they plan to buy an ObamaCare plan next year. That same week, a Reuters poll found that 56% of the uninsured oppose ObamaCare. Just 44% view it favorably. In other words, the uninsured are, if anything, more opposed to the law than are the public at large. Given the mounting fury over millions of policy cancellations and the federal exchange website debacle, these findings garnered little public attention. But they should.

Hundreds of career Justice Department lawyers have broken into open revolt against Attorney General Holder over his support of legislation that would drastically cut back on mandatory minimum sentences for drug pushers. The legislation Holder supports, known as the Durbin-Lee bill, would overturn the current mandatory minimum sentences not only for marijuana violations but for all drug offenses, including major and repeat trafficking in heroin, meth, PCP and other extremely dangerous, and often lethal, drugs. This was too much for hundreds of federal prosecutors. Today, Chuck Grassley, the Ranking Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, read aloud from a letter the

Charles said it was "baffling ... that in our modern world we have such blind trust in science and technology that we all accept what science tells us about everything - until, that is, it comes to climate science." Moody´s rating agency has lowered the outlook for health insurers from stable to negative, blaming ObamaCare. Few Americans will shed tears for insurance companies. But the Moody´s announcement is a warning sign to taxpayers. They´ll be getting clobbered. Section 1342 of the Affordable Care Act forces taxpayers to make insurers whole for most of the losses incurred selling ObamaCare exchange plans through 2016. The bailout is designed to conceal the failure of the president´s signature health law until he is out of office. No one in the Obama administration talked up the advantages of bailing out insurers. It was kept under wraps until

Some Republican establishment operatives and their big donors want former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney to run again in 2016--but they won´t go on record with their comments. An anonymous establishment operative told left-wing BuzzFeed that the 2016 GOP field, which is considered as strong as 2012´s was weak, has "gotten so bad" from the establishment´s point of view that donors are "looking back fondly on the good old days of 2012." “You know what a lot of them say to me? Remember how liberals pounced on Chick-Fil-A’s owner/president for saying more or less what Barack Obama said in his 2008 campaign for president? That marriage was between a man and a woman? Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel declared “Chick-Fil-A’s values are not Chicago values.” Boston Mayor Thomas Menino vowed to block the chain from coming to Beantown. Gotham’s then-City Council speaker, Christine Quinn, demanded Chick-Fil-A’s one New York store be sent packing. Well, this week Chick-Fil-A values were back in the news. When the deep South was paralyzed by snow that stranded motorists for hours and forced others to abandon cars, Chick-Fil-A moved in. In

The Barack H. Obama Foundation has officially been formed to begin planning Obama’s future presidential library, its directors announced on Friday. The foundation’s directors, long-time supporters of Obama, are Martin Nesbitt, J. Kevin Poorman and Julianna Smoot. The library’s goal is to reflect Obama’s career in public service, “expanding economic opportunity, inspiring an ethic of American citizenship, and promoting peace, justice, and dignity throughout the world,” the foundation said in a statement Friday. “I’m humbled and honored that President Obama has entrusted me to lead this effort,” Nesbitt said. “The President’s future library will one day serve as an important part

At a recent forum at the University of Michigan, MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry explained to her audience that white people will never understand why things are racist, because they lack an innate “racial trigger,” that instantly tells them when to be outraged. Harris-Perry, on the other hand, has a very finely-tuned racial trigger. “I know that this moment is racist because it trips my racial trigger, because it makes me feel nauseous,” she said, according to The Michigan Daily. “I’m not generally angry, but you just made me mad.” While lamenting that her ‘white allies’ would never be fully able to understand

Of course there are aspects of the current Congress that I abhor. As predicted, the Obama administration and many in the Democratic Party are trying to peddle the story that ObamaCare is now working because the healthcare.gov website is functioning better. But despite the questionable claims of easier access and more people enrolling in the ObamaCare exchanges, the ugly truth is the horror stories are piling up and, sooner or later, ObamaCare’s cheerleaders will have to confront the overwhelming evidence indicting them for repeatedly lying to the American people. The Dinesh D´Souza and Bill Ayers debate on Thursday night at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, and sponsored by Young America´s Foundation, hands down showed D´Souza has a broad view of history and a love of America as a "wealth creator." In contrast, Ayers has a narrow progressive view where "we [the people] are the sovereign, collective authority."
