Bloomberg: The National Guard
in Coney is a bad idea

The Brooklyn Paper, by Eli Rosenberg

Original Article

Posted By:Fiesta del sol, 11/2/2012 5:30:21 AM

Mayor Bloomberg has snubbed Borough President Markowitz’s impassioned plea to bring the National Guard to Hurricane Sandy-scarred Brooklyn — arguing that approving the Beep’s request would be a waste of federal manpower and turn the borough into a police state. “We don’t need it,” Mayor Bloomberg said on Wednesday during a press update on the city’s ongoing Hurricane Sandy cleanup. “The NYPD is the only people we want on the street with guns.”

Rather have the National Guard on the streets than looters. At least the Guard could shoot people with 32-ounce sodas.

The NYPD is perfection in protecting but are they that good that you will disarm Americans?

Mayor Bloomberg opposes our Second Amendment rights.

Excuse me Tiny Bloomie...the New York National Guard are CITIZEN SOLDIERS who volunteer to help where they are sent. In other words, you pondscum, they are US. How dare you? NYPD--that you reduced in force--is stretched to the max. That is why Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island are facing looting and people are still pulling themselves and dead family out of the mud and water. Those who survived have no power, no warmth, shelter or food.

Markowitz and the SI Beep need to join forces and have a 'personal meeting of schooling' with this jerk.

Reply 5 - Posted by: Donna M, 11/2/2012 6:53:58 AM     (No. 8981519)

BTW, the Guard's in downtown Manhattan delivering meals and water. But they can't go to Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island? And it's ok to have the NY Marathon that goes through all those boroughs?

What I think about Tiny if expressed would throw me off this board.

The Guard should be brought in with ammo and orders to shoot looters on sight.

Ny is forking out billions a year for government workers to do their jobs and yet they're so incompetent, they want the NG because they know how to get stuff done. The NG is one of the most conservative entities in government. How much is NY paying emergency management for being simple desk jockeys with no clue on how to handle something.

Here's an idea. Move all of Bloomberg's stuff from his high and dry Manhattan apartment into in previously flooded house in Coney. Then ask him if he still thinks having the National Guard there is a bad idea.

Reply 9 - Posted by: Donna M, 11/2/2012 7:40:00 AM     (No. 8981585)

The difference between Mayors Giuliani and Tiny:
**At 9/11, places where the average citizen could volunteer or directly donate were clearly communicated on all media--over and over. People got downtown on their own power for WEEKS, even months, to help. There was organization. Landlords offered apts. for those who needed to relocate temporarily. Giuliani and the deputy mayors were EVERYWHERE.
**For Sandy in NYC, there is no direction, no organization for volunteers that I know of. I for one can get in to Manhattan and am able to help, but there's nowhere for me to go that I know of. Tiny B. is generally invisible, except when endorsing De Won or decreeing that the Marathon Will Run.

I forgot...Tiny tells you to go dial 311, and hold...hold...hold. Or go to the website. (Not much good if you have no power!)

Oh yeah, I can donate to the Red Cross..which isn't around. Salvation Army is a good idea of course...but NONE of this is being publicized.

Reply 10 - Posted by: disasterman, 11/2/2012 8:18:02 AM     (No. 8981654)

The citizens in these areas should go en masse to the Marathon route and sit down.

If that is his attitude, I hope he fires his body guards and disconnects his security alarms. Let HIM live like the people do.

The only people from any government we saw on the streets during Andrew were the National Guard and they were there to protect against looters and other criminals. There are not enough police in NYC to protect everyone.

Bloomberg calls the NG a waste of "federal manpower"? The NG is a state asset until federalized. He needs a military advisor.

Bloomberg is a severe hoplophobe. As such, it is impossible for him to think rationally on the subject of self defense, or even bringing in the National Guard to stop looting. He runs around foaming at the mouth about firearms laws in other states, and is totally disfunctional on the subject.

You get the government you deserve. NY voters elected this loon and they will live, and some will die, by their choice. C'est la vie.

He is tone deaf and so is Cuomo if they don't let the guard get down there and set up shop. They are good at this and there's nothing like the sight of the military to make potential looters think twice. They can pass out water and MRE's, blankets & cleaning supplies. Tone deaf.

On Easter Sunday, Google is honoring the birthday of the late labor organizer Cesar Chavez by placing a Chavez portrait within the middle “o” of the Google logo that appears on the homepage of the popular search engine. While Google frequently decorates its logo to celebrate various holidays and special events, it is unclear why the company chose specifically to honor Chavez’s birthday, instead of Easter Sunday. Chavez co-founded the organization now known as the United Farm Workers union (UFW). He became an iconic figure in the labor movement, with his stature only increasing since his death

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

Every month that those would-be workers are gone raises the odds that they might never come back, dimming the prospects for future economic growth. The vanishing trend is more than a decade old, but it accelerated during the Great Recession. Throughout 2012, economists held out hope that it had stopped. But then came Friday’s jobs report, and hopes were dashed. The Labor Department reported that the U.S. labor force — everyone who has a job or is looking for one — shrank
