Marathon is power mad!

| Hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers huddle in the dark each night after the most devastating storm in city history — while two massive generators chug away in Central Park and a third sits idle waiting to power a media center during Sunday’s NYC Marathon. Like hell. Those generators could power 400 homes on Staten Island or the Rockaways or any storm-wracked neighborhood in the city certain to be suffering the after-effects of Hurricane Sandy on Sunday morning. Shouldn’t they come first? Shouldn’t the race just be canceled? Damned straight.

I agree. Cancel it this year and help your citizens, Nanny. Runners would be disappointed, but they'll get over it. Some neighborhoods would be lucky to get back to normal before next year's marathon.

Surely a bunch of neurotic joggers racing for bragging rights ranks in importance long after people's lives. It's flu season and it's getting colder at night.
Hasn't there been enough misery because of the storm? Does Bloomberg really need to pamper his short man's complex with more officious announcements that he's in charge?

Did any of you see that Kathleen Parker tweeted "I'm betting lots are thinking President Bloomberg this morning". (after the first Bloomberg press conference) What is it with the elites? If it looks good, that's all that matters? Bloomberg is botching this!

Author of this editorial for mayor of New York! Bloomberg is nuts for going ahead with the marathon. Those runners who had nonrefundable tickets to NYC should be offered the chance to 'run' food up staircases in the dark to trapped victims. It will be a 'marathon' they will never forget...and they will forever thank New York for giving them the opportunity to serve their fellow man.
Get your priorities straight, Mayor!

I'm with the Post...directing that many resources to a sporting event is just stupid. The runners could help volunteer in the time slot of the race if they wanted. It really should be cancelled or rescheduled, IMHO.

This is hubris of the highest order - runners do not want to be inconvenienced by having to re-schedule; their wants and needs take precedence over others.

If Bloomberg thinks he has problems now, imagine what will happen when hundreds of marathoners sustain injuries after being pelted with rotten eggs, rocks and bricks (and 16-ounce soft drinks?) thrown at them by angry residents of the ravaged neighborhoods along the marathon route?
Gentility is not the outer boroughs' strong suit, after all.

#2, "a bunch of neurotic joggers racing for bragging rights" ... well said!
The absurdity of running this parade of the vanities, under these exigent circumstances, is plain to see.
But I've been critical of jogging fanatics and marathon enthusiasts for years. Many are obvious narcissists and anorexics. Some I would even call exhibitionists. (No, not talking about your ordinary garden variety guy or gal who puts in a couple of miles before work.)
And for all the temporary benefit from marathoners' money pouring into a city, what will be the cost to our children for Medicare billings for all these Boomers' ruined knees, hips and ankles -- injuries that marathoners inflicted on themselves?

This is a political disaster in the making. Bloomberg endorses Zero... then he takes valuable manpower and resources from Hurricane Relief for a 'Marathon'... It would not surprise me if People in New York spontaneously attack these marathon runners when the event ensues, or pelt them with garbage.
Personally I think it would be a great way for people in New York to express their anger and let off steam while making a public gesture, by pelting marathon runners with the rotten/spoiled food from their freezers.

I agree that the race should be cancelled. i agree that the runners should be blocked. I DISAGREE that the runners should be the object of flying debris. No one should be injured. It is not their fault that the Mayor of NYC is an egomaniac and has no common sense. In an emergency, human life and human suffering take priority over everything else. The Mayor should open a tent city for any displaced person and use the generators there. He refuses help from the National Guard, which just proves the man is a cretin. My Opinion.

Bloomberg has been a POS since he first ran in 2001. He is a hideous little man whose ego is far larger than his intelligence or talent. He has only looked like a good Mayor because the people that would have succeeded him are so stupid and mostly socialists, that he looks like a star compared to them. Someone said on the thread NYC has Term Limits. Doomberg changed the Term Limits law, with the consent of the City Council, jerks all of them, so that he could run for a 3rd term. So, he changes the law when it suits him as he changes political parties when it suits him. I am so glad that he was forced to cancel the marathon. I hope this ruins whatever so-called legacy that he could possibly have.

The Obama administration wants to consign the Benghazi terrorist attack to the history books, but this week three State Department officials will tell Congress that the Obama administration’s version of history is false — and that the falsehoods it told the American people were willful and deliberate. One of the whistleblowers, Mark Thompson, deputy coordinator for operations in the State Department’s counterterrorism bureau, was in direct, real-time communication with people on the ground during the Sept. 11, 2012, attack in Libya, before he was locked out of the room. Yet despite his firsthand knowledge of how the attack

If it wasn’t obvious beforehand, it became clear last week that Ted Cruz is likely to run for president. On Wednesday, the freshman senator’s advisors spilled the beans about his thinking on 2016 to National Review (short version: highly doable), and Friday Cruz showed up in the critical primary state of South Carolina to speak at the state GOP’s “Silver Elephant Dinner.” Which raises a question conspiratorial liberals have been waiting to ask of a Republican since at least 2008: Is Ted Cruz, who was born in Canada to an American mother and a Cuban father,

We have seen in the Boston bombings case how terrorists depend on a network of sympathizers. But the Russian connection remains a mystery. The press should follow up on the Russian angle to the Islamic terrorist bombers story before President Obama gets carried away with cooperating with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The assumption by the media that the former KGB officer is genuinely interested in helping the U.S. solve its Islamic terrorism problem should be subjected to scrutiny. After all, al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri has been identified by KGB defectors as a Russian agent.

South Carolina’s suspense-filled special election between Republican Mark Sanford and Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch comes to a close Tuesday — and it’s anyone’s guess how it will end. Will enough Republicans hold their noses and vote for Sanford, despite their misgivings about his personal conduct, to put him over the top? Or are there enough energized Democrats in the heavily GOP district to carry the day for Colbert Busch? Colbert Busch seemed to be in the driver’s seat a week ago, but the late momentum has been with Sanford. The race is now so close — a weekend survey

As we reported earlier this morning, Rush Limbaugh is allegedly in the midst of a battle with Cumulus Media, the distributor of his radio show. Mediaite’s own sources confirm that the ad troubles in connection with Limbaugh’s show are, indeed, severe. She´s the first and only woman to achieve such a dubious distinction. Shakur is also known as Joanne Chesimard, the name the FBI uses when referring to her. When it first became clear that the CIA’s Benghazi talking points had been altered, many of us viewed the White House as the prime suspect. After all, it served President Obama’s political purposes to claim, at the height of a political campaign in which he was taking credit for the fall of al Qaeda, that the death of a U.S. ambassador was down to spontaneous outrage over a video, rather than pre-planned terrorism. It turns out, however, that the State Department was the prime culprit. It was State that pushed back hard against the original talking points.

Republican lawmakers, who have spent months seeking to tie President Obama to last year’s deadly attack on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, are increasingly focusing their probe on a new target: former secretary of state Hillary Rodham Clinton. The GOP-led investigation of the Sept. 11, 2012, assaults that killed U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and three others now centers heavily on the State Department and whether officials there deliberately misled the public about the nature of the assault. Three State Department officials are scheduled to testify before a House committee on Wednesday about the Benghazi attack and its aftermath.

Sanford defeated Colbert Busch 54 percent to 45 percent, according to full unofficial results. Turnout was heavier than expected, with about 32 percent of the district’s 455,702 registered voters casting ballots. Sanford, who has never lost an election, returns to the 1st District seat he held for three terms from 1995-2001. From the start, the Obama administration’s account of what happened in Benghazi, Libya, on Sept. 11 last year didn’t quite square for Sharyl Attkisson. So the veteran CBS News reporter dug in, and kept digging. The result: Attkisson has been a persistent voice of news-media skepticism about the government’s story. On the air and online, Attkisson has questioned the administration’s timeline and its response. (Snip) While other media, particularly Fox News, have been similarly skeptical about the official narrative about Benghazi, Attkisson and CBS might put the story in a different light. Nullification was last used by Southern states to try to eviscerate Civil Rights legislation, to try to prevent states from basically enforcing desegregation and frankly, I think history will look back on this round of nullification as kindly as it did on the last round. It is laughable also because it is a total bastardization of the Second Amendment. The Second Amendment is not an absolute right, not a God given right, always had conditions upon
